Holloween Party (school) ideas -- please!

School parties are mostly sugar and I hate it and the fact that the school system thinks they must fill my kids with a life's supply of sugar as often as possible. So today I get a note asking for party stuff -- anything I want to send is okay.

Help me figure out healthy, yet desirable goodies to send.

Thing is - there is going to be so much sugar and crap at that party, you bringing apples isn't going to make much of a difference, nor will most kids appreciate it.

I would say offer to bring decorations or something non-edible if you have to participate in this function.

ohhhh...Your post just took me back to my Kindergarten (with a "too ahead of her time" teacher ~keep in mind this was 1979!!) Halloween party!! If I can remember correctly we were given witch faces made out of rice cakes (or was that english muffins??) with shredded carrots as hair, raisins as eyes,a carrot piece as a nose..hmm, I can't remember the rest ~ I really must dig up this pic to post!! Maybe you can do something like that. Or you can always make some yummy raw treats ~snowballs (nut/date combos rolled in coconut) or something like that. I can't wait to see what everyone else has to say!!

Well I don't have to send food with the kids to school but for trick or treat. I tried giving rasins one year and that didnt work...the kids hated it (i thought one was going to egg me) but since then I have given out party toys...I go to the dollar store and find nice toys or coloring books to give out the kids seem to like this.

Dollar store party supplies (let them annoy the candy parents with little whistles)

I just think that spending a lot of money on raw foods for a school might be a waste to you, unless it is at your house for instance.

Hmm as a teacher this is a true dilema as eyeballs light up at the sign of candy. I was thinking maybe baby carrots sliced to look like fingers with a sliced almond to look like a fingernail...but it may be gross. Some do like fruit--so maybe a "bobbing for apples" game may be good or raw carmel apples--I have seen someone here made them for her children.

What about the caramel apples from the other thread? I know that someone (can't remember who right now) had made all kinds of raw halloween goodies including licorice and caramel apples.

I have the same dilemma fo rmy 2 younger ones, plus I am the gym teacher in the school and ALL the kids expect a little halloween treat !!

Last year I ordered a big bag of plastic spider rings for the kids and they loved them ! This year I got Halloween rubber stamps for the younger grades and glow in the dark necklaces for the older grades. It's may to late but I go tthem from Oriental trading co. I suggest giving a call to your local party store, ours had lots of little Halloween puzzles,bubbles funny eye glasses etc..

Asise from the candy I love Halloween it's my favorite !

When my son was in school, I dressed up as a witch (big stretch right?) LOL, and went to the school and I painted all their faces, some like cats, some with a spider on their cheek, the boys wanted lots of bloody stuff, cool :o)

some wanted a glitter sparkly star, I brought my face painting stuff and just had at it, they were so happy.

You could go all out, or just draw a spider on their cheek.

If you aren't artistic, maybe fake tattoos to put on them, anything is fine with kids, they just like to do something original, trust me if you do something like this, you will be a star, as most people won't take the time to go to the clas,s they just send stuff.

take their picture with the witch, or go as a ghost, or just go scary, with dripping blood, they'll love that.

Wow, great ideas here. Funny, me and the kids have been making some "goodie bags" for my son's Pre-K class (we've been at it now for 2 hours :eek: )

I am using paper lunch bags
printing his picture out on plain paper
cutting that out and gluing to a piece of black piece of paper
glue that to the bag
stamping Happy Halloween on the bag
he signs his name
we stuff the bag with:

stickers
stamps
tatoos
little plastic bats - cats - spiders etc...
scary halloween rings
and a rubber braclet or two

LOVE the going to class with your child to face paint/tatoo idea !!!!!

Teachers at his pre-K are great, they tell the children they must bring their goodie bags and treats home to Mom and/or Dad. So they're not allowed to open them in class.

Once mine get home with them I help sort through what they got...I DO allow one piece of candy while we're doing this... and then while they're distracted by the toys and other things from the mess on the floor, I try to collect the "trash" with out them really noticing that I'm collecting more "trash" then they know of.

I also think that keeping them home if the "trash" is more than a parent is willing to give their child is a GREAT idea. I did that once or twice with my 5 year old last year. I did make that day a special day out for her though.
