So I've been doing my raw diet for the past month and I've been doing ok. I've never struggled with cravings or anything to the point where it interrupted my raw diet so I thought I was ok.

I consume multivitamins & supplements regularly (Opti-Men, Ultra 40, Nature's Science Milk Thistle, Generic Calcium pills & Udo's Oil). Now I'm by no means 100% raw; I do indulge every Saturday in my family's traditional breakfast of cooked food & coffee. Every Saturday (like clock work) I have this breakfast. Otherwise it's a raw diet for me.

I am not diabetic (to my knowledge) however I do check my blood sugar daily as diabetes runs in my family. Call me paranoid but I check it daily. I know that when in doubt I should check with my doctor but I just had a driver's physical two days ago and nothing turned up, and I also have a general physical scheduled for next Tuesday so.....it's not like I'm playing doctor on my own. I do get checked out by a general practitioner.

But I'm getting side tracked here...this Saturday morning I had my traditional breakfast with my Opti-Men. A few hours passed and I had my generic brand calcium pill my daily dose of Udo's oil. I didn't feel too great (for some reason) almost immediately after taking my Udo's oil. I started to develop a bit of a stomach cramp and felt nauseous. So I went upstairs to lie down and I suddenly felt flush. My hands started shaking and I had this really deep-rooted feeling that my blood sugar was very low.

I rolled off the bed and immediately checked my blood sugar. It was 2.4 (which is very low). I raced downstairs as I really felt like I was about to pass out and my gut instinct lead me to start munching away on cookies, an apple, some juice & some processed junk food (just to get quick sugar rush). At the time, all I could think to myself was I better get some sugar in me ASAP! Within 5 minutes I felt fine.

Is this normal? Has anybody had this happen to them? Is it a side effect of using Udo's Oil??? I've been using it now for months and this has never happened to me before. I'm a little concerned, but I'm not freaking out because I've got a full physical in a few more days.

Hypoglycemia? That's exactly how I feel when my blood sugars get too low. I would think the toast would have raised your sugars enough, but maybe since you have been raw for awhile what you are eating that is raw is not enough and/or enough calories so you crashed after the cooked food.

What are you eating in a day of raw? AND maybe it's time to give up the traditional family breakfast and eat more raw?

Just some thoughts...

Hypoglycemia?

Not sure what that is, but then again....that's what Google is for. :D

As for giving up our traditional Saturday morning breakfast, I don't think that'll happen. Not because I crave the food itself. It's just......well......tradition. Hard to explain, but I have a strong emotional tie to this particular meal on that particular day of the week. It's when we (as a family) get to sleep in, we're all at the table (at once), the smells (cooked food & coffee), and the sounds of our chatter is sort of like soul food for me. I know it sounds silly but....that's just how it is for me. One might look at it and say Well you can still sleep in and have the chatter amongst your family but it just wouldn't be the same for me.

Anyhoo....today I took my Udo's Oil and so far I'm ok. I ate like 2 hours ago, so I think I'm going to munch on an apple. Don't want a repeat of yesterday.

Hypoglycemia is low blood sugar disease. Hyperglycemia (Diabetes) is high blood sugar disease. I have both.

...talk about weird.

I was just looking up the term "Hypoglycemia" and I saw your post (it notified me via e-mail) at the same time. Lots of great vids on YouTube. But in any case, I'll be bringing it up with my general practitioner this Tuesday, when I go in for my physical.
