Hi! New guy here.

After watching three documentaries on Dr. Gerson, and the Fat, Sick, and Almost Dead one, I got convinced there might be something to this. 'course now I have to get Alissa's book and check that out too!

I'm 42, and anywhere from 25 to 50 pounds overweight depending on who you listen to. There's nothing wrong with any blood tests. My last blood pressure taken at the docs was 120/78 which I was dissapointed because it's never been text book perfect, but always soooo close! The only problem is I hurt, everywhere, all the time. Mostly muscles and joints. I'm also tired, all the time. I go to sleep tired. I wake up tired. It seems I'm downing more and more motrin/tylenol/aspirin everyday. This just doesn't seem to be the way to go... I think I'm gonna try a ten day fast starting feb 10th. But that's later.

So, I'm thinking about getting a Norwalk, but it's not in the budget until next year. I looked at the Welles press, but to spend $400 on something that does pretty much what the Norwalk does that you might be getting in a year seemed silly to me. So I did what any good aircraft mechanic would, and I built my own 2 ton juice press. Total cost was a whopping $19.78. I'll get into that later if there's any interest. That's not what this message is about.

I made the press today, came inside with it and my 12 year old helped me pick out some ingredients to give it a whirl. We wound up with celery, carrots, apple, lemon, and some ginger. Tossed all that in the kitchenaid grinder, put it in the press and got way more juice than I thought I would. It was about 12 ounces. Now, granted, this is probably more nutrients/goodness than I've had in a year, but within 10 minutes of drinking that I got tingly all over. Then about 10 minutes after that my tummy started doing barrel rolls... Is that normal for a first glass? :weird

ginger is upsetting to my stomach , most say only use a little . you may have used too much its potent

question - hows the kitchen aid grinder work , does it completely grind up without the small wattage motor it incorporates working hard ?

and yes please post press design as this is how ive been thinking for years , the exact kitchen aid type grinder to then use a press with

i'll bring a link to a video on norwalk press compared to others back here

I had to go to Kitchenaid's website to see what the deal is. I never thought there'd ever be a question of the Kitchenaid's mixer being able to do anything. But now I understand. I have the professional 600 series mixer which appears to be over twice as powerful as the classic. If you're into wattage it states 250w for the classic, and 575w for the pro600 series. There's not a whole lot I can do with those numbers other than calculate how much my electric bill is going to be. Too many other variables are needed to figure out how much mixing/grinding power it really has.

However, to give a straight answer: The motor barely notices I'm doing anything.

There's an optional juicer attachment that connects directly to the grinder I'm using, so I guess it's grinding it up good enough. I've never seen pulp from a dedicated juicer, so I have no baseline for a comparison.

As far as my stomach is concerned, I figured it out. I had a Monster (Bad stuff I know...) when I was in the barn building the juice press. So I'm chalking it up to a Monster mixed with Vegie juice! I can eat raw ginger without a problem. I only put about 1/16th teaspoon of ginger in.

I watched that video you posted a link to, and all the other videos I could find on the Norwalk last week. It is an interesting machine!

I'll get another thread going about the press I built, first I have to get mentally prepared for the people that freak out because you put a "car jack" over your food. Ok, really, I just have to get more pictures.

main reason i posted that kohler norwalk video is point he made about its 1800 rpm speed , that fast turning a juicer froths the juice up and changes the taste (and how nutricious it is according to many healers) . so to me theres nothing very special about it when it costs 2500 when you can get a very powerful very slow turning juicer like green star which makes a healthier juice for $500 . just throwing that out there to help you weight all options before your purchase

Yeah, I've noticed that. Found a video where the guy was showing how it can throw the food back up to the ceiling too, thought that was cool. We'll see how the kitchenaid/home-made press works out over the next year.

Thanks!
