I've been making a smoothie in the morning for myself but I need to find something that will make it a bit sweeter for my 10 year old son, any suggestions.

Here is what I drink in the morning:

Spinach (or Kale), banana, fuji apple, frozen blueberry, chia seed, frozen strawberry* and water, but it needs a slight sweet kick.

If the fruits don't do the trick, try omitting the greens or maybe add some stevia.

My wife and I want to keep the greens since he won't eat greens any other way; I don't know anything about stevia but I may have to give that a try.

Lol, also... does he know the greens are in there? Maybe just the suggestion that they're not might do the trick!

This is a wonderful sweetener. It's also great because you can store it in the freezer and no worries about it going bad.

Using dates that have been soaked in water is great too - be sure to keep the soak water and use it too.

I love using a young Thai coconut as the base to my smoothies, using the meat in the smoothie too. I can really taste a difference using coconut water vs plain water.

When I make fruit smoothies, I use oranges as my base - that makes it a bit sweeter too.

Have you tried adding another banana? That always used to do it for me when I first began making green smoothies. Also a big spoon of raw honey may do the trick.

If you stick with the sweeter greens such as baby spinach or romaine in the beginning it will help to make the drink not so green flavored.

Oh yeah. I used to use grapes too when I needed to make a GS sweeter.

I like Agave and dates... :D

Hi Deb! The Thai coconut...I've yet to try one. Is the meat soft, as opposed to the hard meat inside the brown ones? I love coconut...that must taste soooooo good in smoothies. Would a little bit of coconut oil or butter add some of that coconut flavor to a smoothie?

Hi Amarynth ~ It's been a while :) The Thai coconut - do you mean using it all in a smoothie (vs making nectar of the Gods)? Yes, the meat if the coconut is really young is gelatinous! The older the coco gets, the thicker the meat gets.

I've had many many cocos with thicker meat - but not as thick and hard as a brown coconut.

If you get one to try (get 2 just incase 1's bad) - here's how I find it easiest to open:

It will add coconut flavor to smoothies. I put coconut oil or coconut butter in nearly every green smoothie I make. Well.......except the savory smoothies of course. LOL

Hi Deb! Yes it has been...I've been lurking. :D School last semester has kept me quite busy and almost brain dead with all the lab reports and exams. lol Awesome...yes I wasn't certain if the Thai coconut had a softer meat that I could blend and make something like a pina colada type drink with banana and pineapple. Mmm sounds good. Thanks for the tip. :D

Fastfreedom...thank you as well! I'm going to get some coco oil or butter (maybe both!), and start adding these to my smoothies. I absolutely love coconut flavor. I also hear that it's very good for inflammation, as well as being antimicrobal, etc...

Mulliganal...SO sorry for busting in on your thread. Like I said...I like agave and dates for extra sweetening. Maybe try some coconut too? :D
