Forgive me, in advance, if this question is an ignorant one. I'm going to be making a couple of Allisas recipes that require sprouted wheat berries. Do you know if they contain gluten? I'm assuming they do since they are "wheat" but not sure. I tried doing a google search but couldn't find anything. Thx.

Hi, HeatherAnne! It is my understanding that wheat berries are NOT gluten free, and I've read that those with gluten intolerance should focus on raw breads made with nuts as a base. Maybe do a search for Raw Almond Bread (I can't recall if there's a recipe in Alissa's book). Maybe you could use that as a substitute? I'm a newbie, so if somebody knows better than I do, please advise. :)

Wheat grass is, not the berry

HeatherAnne,

No, I do not have celiac disease but have been recovering from candida overgrowth.

So, are you saying if I sprout the berries, they will be void of gluten? Some of these (Alissa's) recipes look absolutely delicious - such as her cannoli's (using wheat berries for dehydrated wrap) :). Thanks again all!

Okay...

I am confused why gluten concerns you. I would be concerned about sugar. Gluten is a protein. I'm confused.

Sorry to confuse you. I have had gluten sensitivity and candida overgrowth (it is unclear which came first), and was advised by holistic health practitioner to avoid wheat, gluten and sugar till things are cleared up. Maybe re-introduce gluten at a later time once my gut is healed. I'm new on the journey, so keep learning as I go. Have a great day :).

HeatherAnne,

Read this article about using raw oats to heal your gut: http://www.truehealthmedicine.com/ptdownloads/rawoats.pdf

And then check out this porridge recipe: http://www.rawfoodrecipes.com/recipes/porridge.html

Since oats are naturally sweet, I am sure this would be good without the added "sugar" or in this case honey!

Best of luck to you!

AND if you added cinnamon to the porridge that would help with any natural sugars as cinnamon helps lower blood glucose levels!

It's my understanding that the majority of people are at least partly gluten sensitive. Wheat is such a marginal food when you think about it. Best just to give it a miss i reckon.

Personally I believe wheat is bad for everyone. I avoid all parts of the plant, myself.

Here's another "oatmeal" recipe:

Too extreme, our creator made certain plants for our good nutrition. In this system of things, every thing is pretty polluted, even when one tries going all natural and organic. Variety is the key for good health.

I agree... variety is gooooooooood.
