Day one of fasting is over, and I have a headache.... which I expected.... and it isn't a bad one..... but what I surely did not expect was to gain THREE POUNDS in one day, when my caloric intake was about 1200 calories, and I did 35 minutes of cardio.

Keep it up! Good start. I'm not sure what your goal is but day one is pretty tough, I haven't been able to make it more then 24 hours lately. You won't gain anything besides water weight on a fast I imagine, so stay strong and you will be rewarded.

If you are anything like me and was a slave to the SAD for most of your life, your body may be absorbing nutrients for the first time in a very long time. This will normalize in a while. You could also be retaining water. Drink plenty of water to flush it out, along with the toxins you are trying to get rid of. Also, if you are exercising, that will show up as a weight gain, but it's muscle so don't be afraid. Weigh once a week instead of every day.

If you're fasting to help with detox, you may want to consider forgoing exercise. I have learned that when our body is detoxing, it's best to let it work on one thing at a time and that rest is needed to detoxify. Just tossing that in the pot for what it's worth. Best wishes on your fast!

Thanks, but I know THAT isn't it... I drink 100+ ounces of water daily.

Just keep it up and check your weight after maybe a week. When I started, I refused to weigh myself. When I finally did I found I'd lost 15 lbs. 6 days later I was down another 7 pounds. Just don't stress yourself too much (at all) about these first few days. It'll definitely pay off for you in the long term.

First off, congratulations for making it through the first day! Did you happen to weigh yourself the same time of day? That can surely throw you off 3 pounds - say if you weighed yourself in the am and then again at the end of the day - since you'll weigh more in the evening. Hang in there, the reward for fasting will come :).

Always when I wake up, is when I weigh in. I am not unrealistic in my desires / goals. I have already lost 50+ pounds... they were the "easy" ones. What I have found out is that I HATE cucumber and celery when blended by my Vita Mix. Spinach is fine, so is kale, and most of the others. With 90 more pounds to go, I would love to have that happen in about a year. And i would love to get off my diabetes meds.

Check out interviews on Rawkin' Radio with Clent Manich who eliminated 200 pounds in one year and Philip McCluskey who eliminated the same in 2 years.

Please put your focus in the right place meaning your health. Losing weight will be a side effect. Trust your body, i wouldn't worry about this. You could have water retention simply, it will normalize. You are doing the right thing, don't give up, you will soon see the fruit of your labor. Headache is without a doubt that it is time to do that fast for your health.

Congratulations for taking the plunge.

Thanks... I knew the headache part was going to happen. I had read and heard that. That part is already gone. Right now, my issue is that I am SOOOO hungry, but am afraid to eat too many fruits because of the diabetes. I have a physical coming up and will discuss this further with my doctor. She is open minded, and won't immediately try to get me not to do this UNLESS she is concerned about the fruit. And I have to have fruit.... the ones that have mostly veggie are almost impossible to drink ( for me ). I have not learned how to make anything other than my blended drinks, so far.... and I do blend, not juice.

I'm not juice fasting, but am 100% raw, and the same thing happened to me this morning - up two pounds when I had expected a minimum loss of two pounds. It was hard to accept the numbers. I have two scales and even climbed on both to make sure one had not malfunctioned. The only solution is to keep on keeping on. I have lost a total of 100 pounds with raw foods, and have another 130 pounds to lose. I'm going to increase my minutes on the rebounder and drink twice as much water.

Have you seen the movie "Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days"? http://www.rawfor30days.com/trailer.html It is a documentary film that chronicles six Americans with diabetes who switch to a raw food diet, juices, etc in order to reverse disease. Blessings on the journey.

and I do blend, not juice. I think its easier to get the veggies down in a juice. Green smoothies are always hard for me unless they had Mango or some sweet fruits. I had to water them down. Keep up the good work. Just think about ll of the good and healthful things your doing for your body.

Spinach and Pineapple is soo yummy in the vitamix. Enjoy

HeatherAnne's suggestion is excellent. The people in the documentary she mentions went to Dr. Gabriel Cousen's raw health center in Arizona and followed his raw eating program designed for diabetics, which has very low to no fruits. He has a book that discusses (http://www.amazon.com/There-Cure-Diabetes-21-Day-Program/dp/1556436912) the program.

You can do acid and semi acid fruit such berries, citric fruits, cherries, grape, apple, water melon yes water melon etc... Many diabetic case has been reverse with fruits. Research, you will see. I cannot mention his name but their is a doctor in florida that has helped 100 thousands patient to reverse chronic condition with fruits. Blueberries are in season in another country, they are much available in Canada and US. You should try them. Buy organic please.

I read that intensive exercise is great for certain diabetes

Drink more water when you are hungry. Sometime our body will make us hungry when we are thirsty. Also, if you have parasite, they will cause you to crave for comfort food that will slow down your progress of healing. Read about herbs (fresh), or food that is great to get ride of parasite. (Radish, garlic, papaya seed, etc...) You can make a vegetable juice with it. You can make a delicious smoothie with fresh herbs also)

If you buy Alissa DVD, it is well done to give you idea on how to prepare raw food. You don't have to use ingredient that arm you for your condition, you can always substitute. For instance instead of honey, you can use date or banana or what ever. Soak always your nuts no matter what and dry them to use when you need dry nuts for a recipe. They are hard to digest otherwise and you need to eat them in moderation until you get back on your feet. Use raw gourmet as a way to transition to raw food. Seek for as much fresh and live food as possible. Doing smoothie is great. They are also many youtube raw recipe that you can find for free. Try to pick something with just a few ingredient. If you do a fast, your need to use salt and flavouring food will diminish greatly.

An easy recipe is one part of walnut or pecan with one part of raisin or date, then blend. You can add a little bit of cacao, this will satisfy you. Again, eat in moderation and only to help you to transition. Focus always on your accomplishment and all the positive thing that you have done for your body because they count way more then you think. It doesn't matter that your choice are bad or not, the good one are the one that you need to bring your attention.

You will succeed, you are on the right path. Believe in you

p.s I am not a doctor please research.
