Should I do a water fast before I become raw vegan? Just to detox all the cooked foods I have eaten.

No. Start on a raw food diet first and allow your body to detox slowly. If you go from SAD straight to water fasting you're gonna detox rapidly which could be quite uncomfortable and possibly damaging. I've read how water fasting can damage a persons body because they are very toxic and so much is gonna be released at once that it could potentially over tax your bodies elimination channels. It has happened to some people that I recall reading about.
If you wanna fast then do a juice fast. Or even better, do a green smoothie fast. Everything in the juice will help neutralize all the acidic waste that your body is gonna release and help protect it from damage. Then once your body is fairly clean you can be safe to do a water fast.
In the beginning I too wanted to detox my body as quickly as possible. But I decided not to over tax my body and regret anything, possibly even setting myself back and needing to heal from any damage done. Take your time and set yourself up for success.

You do what feels right to you.
The approach recommended is to go by stepping stone. 100% Raw food, upgraded to live food, while adding as much greens in from of smoothie or juice and fresh ripe fruits.
Read and read and read again about water fast. I find the Essene approach is very educative and insightful. I read the Essene Gospel of peace book I and it was what i needed to finally do the water fast. I explored and read about water fast for about couple years before i finally did the plunge. I am doing another one starting today.
You will find good information. You can do a water fast totally safe or very harmful. Such going into fear and start adding stuff in your water, is a very bad idea. You need to do a water fast for the right reason also never to lose weight. You need also to be ready to upgrade your life style afterward.
Anyway, if i was you, i would do raw food (leafy greens, fruits and vegetables) and use gourmet food to transition. Once you are ready to detox, you will need to cut down the nuts (nothing wrong with them, just that they slow down the process).
Water fast, will assist you to do a very deep cleansing and healing.
All is well!

If you were going to do a fast before starting a raw vegan diet... I would recommend a juice fast. Much less detoxing but still very detoxing.
Of course, you don't need to fast to go raw. Raw will detox you just fine!
