Dear Fellow Raw Food Fans,
From what I have read on the net seems over whelming and confusing. So far the one raw thing I have started is eating fruit and drinking water at breakfast time. The how to cook raw info is confusing for me. I am single and mostly prepare meals for one most of the time. I also some of ingredients and recipes are very confusing to me. Also there simple to be some raw lingo that I am probably not aware of.
Hope someone can help me get starting going raw into the new year.
Sincerely
Ryan

LOL, welcome Ryan.
First of all, we don't "cook" raw.... we actually "prepare" it....
Get yourself Alissa's first book and her dvd's. They will really get you going in a bit way.
As far as ingredients and recipes.... if you're more specific we could be of more assistance. You can always Google search ingredients if they're something you're not familiar with.
Check this forum for abbreviations, etc. There's a whole list of them if you look at "forum"... no time now to get the link for you yet, pretty sure someone will.
Most of all, have fun with your food!

I remember one of my go raw attempts I got loaded down with fancy recipes.
This time I mostly juice veggies and make fruit smoothies. Much easier.

Totally support Alissa dvd's
You can find also may info on your youtube and people showing you how to do recipe
You need a food processor (you don't need to spend much)
A very good blender my favourite is Vitamix ( you can buy a re-used one), I don't like the blendtech but if you are a gadget person, you may enjoy it.
A dehydrator (like the excalibur 9 trays) if you want to do crackers, bread, nice recipe, warm your food
A good kitchen knife, carrot piller, a vegetable spiral slicer ( to make noddle).
It is so easy to make raw food, it is overwhelming at first because you need to plan but once you get use to it, you cannot go back.
Enjoy

If your short on time keep it simple. Eat fruits, salads ,nuts, n seeds. Look for a raw resturaunt close by hopefully youll have one. Enjoy the gourmet treats from there to keep you going. Don't get discouraged by all of the fancy recipes they are great but sprouting and dehydrating can seem like alot at first. There are places online you can have raw foods shipped to you. Good luck enjoy the rawness.

What I found great about Allisa's book "Living on Live Food" as opposed to other raw food books, is her month long meal plan and grocery shopping lists. It made making the raw meals doable in bite size chunks. It is well worth the purchase for both book and DVD especially if you are a visual learner. Wishing you courage & God speed on your journey!

I agree with "keep it simple"! Just start eating raw! Do you have favorites? If so, make sure to always have those on hand.

Thinking about what constitutes a meal is probably the biggest challenge for coming off cooked foods. For instance, one meal could easily be five bananas and nothing else. Or, a meal could be about a quarter cup of almonds, with a tsp. of honey stirred into them (GREAT flavor combo there), an apple cut up into slices, and a carrot. It doesn't have the same LOOK as sitting down to a cooked meal. You don't need as much actual bulk when you're eating raw, because there is so much more nutrition in each bite, so you might look at the meal you're sitting down to and say "Is that all there is?" But, when you finish, if you examine your feelings, you will probably find that you feel just as full as you did with twice the quantity of cooked food.
Same advice as above - start with super simple foods. And think of them as meals, not as snacks.

Hi Ryan
I felt the same way when I started. Overwhelmed was the word,,,I was following the books and continually preparing stuff and it seemed i was buying so many ingredients. I did somempore reading and finally found someone who said make it your own...since then everything has clicked. I don't try and follow the books anymore I just look at them now and then for recipies. I usually have a smoothie, or fruit or raw cereal for breakfast .
Salad for lunch and wahtever I want for dinner thas is raw. It is working well and I am following it fairly closely. I live in the rural norther BC and have no one to confer with but am on the itnernet often to see what other people are doing which helps. Utube helped but I have seen most of them now.
Hope this helps
Barb
