I am embarking upon a fast Jan. 1. I want to fast as long as I can, but I want to do it right so I can stick to it. Ive done 24 hour juice fasts which was fabulous.
I was reading not to include citrus juice or tomato juice in your fast. Then there are articles about the benefits of orange juice fasts. Then I read after 3 days add nut milks or soymilks to your fasts. Is that ok. I also read not to add proteins during fasting, wouldn't that be too much protein during a fast. I do love seasame milk...
Confused. I really wanted to do plenty of orange juice. I just got a huge box from the orange grove.
Im nervous, scared, and confused. I want this to be a wonderful experience so wonderful I can continue until I am totally healed.
I need guidance through this. I know I can do 24 hours.
I'm just reading Frederic Patenaude's latest book: "Raw Food Controversies" and he says that unless you are overweight, you won't feel high energy when fasting. According to him the high-energy feeling comes from the body feeding on its own fat reserves for energy while not spending any energy on having to digest solid foods. My experience of a 7-day juice fast following a month-or-so of raw food diet: I felt good but the energy was not anything unusual. I would do it again, though.
I didn't do enemas or colonics, though, which apparently are ESSENTIAL for getting the maximum benefits of the fast. Not eliminating enough toxins can be your biggest obstacle while fasting so I would make sure to assist your body with elimination as much as possible... whatever suits you... enemas are important but in addition you could do any of the following: dry skin brushing, deep breathing exercises, hot baths (with herbs and/or detoxifying salts if you like), castor oil packing, exercise, sauna, sugar scrubs while bathing, etc.
Also, Michigan Roman on this forum just gave some facebook links for advice on fasting in another thread, so maybe ask him.

Thank you I just ordered an enema bag to help me through the detox. I am overweight so I hope to get that energy or the fasting High. more than anything I need to build my self up. This will be one of my greatest accomplishments against myself.

I've had successful fasts that included both orange and tomato juices. :)

This is not a good place to be in generally but certainly not for a fast.
Just relax. Go with what you feel like having. I would stick with just fruits and veg juices plus water and leave out nut milks but relax and the answers will come to you.

I don't know about tomato juice, but i know orange juice is great in so many ways and it helps so much with healing and rejuvenation.
As for nut milk and especially soy milk (genetically modify), i wouldn't do any nuts during a fast, it will slow down the process and over taxed your kidney which you need to work full blast for your cleanse.
Follow what feels right and you may be surprise how in tune with your body you can be.
All is well

How long are you planning to do this for? Many people feel very good while fasting but you shouldn't put TOO much hope on it and also, be sure to not continue TOO long the first time, to make it dangerous. I agree with MysticTree that if you are mentally in a vulnerable place, you have to be very careful. Be good to yourself (but not in fake ways like downing junk foods) - do all kinds of things that make you relaxed and comfortable. Sounds like you are going into the right direction but just be careful it doesn't become an obsession. These natural health benefits are good but often quite slow to come. Look to the long-term benefits, not for quick-fixes. Maybe fast maximum 7 days and then take a break, just to make sure you come off the fast healthily. Whatever you do, don't let it become a substitute for getting over mental anxieties (by relaxing and exercising maybe)... and make sure you do it in a healthy way and don't be too hard on yourself.
Thank you I just ordered an enema bag to help me through the detox.
Glad to hear this! Consider some of the other detox methods too... (or research for alternatives, my list was just a quick one). Personally, I like hot baths and dry skin brushing... gives you a nice tingly feeling afterwards and I know anyway it's doing me good :)

I couldn't agree more. I just jumped right in and did a month-long juice fast that included any and all fruit and veggie juices I was craving.... and it was great!
Usually I had fruit juices for breakfast and I'd have more savory veggie juices during the day -- but there really are no rules, it's just what works best for you. At night I'd usually enjoy a richer spicy tomato-based juice.... YUM! Just remembering it all makes me want to do another fast!

Thank you everybody. I am going to have lots of orange juice and green juice. From the24hour fast I know I like to have a variety. I am aiming for 30 days or whatever mybody will allow. I have Aleesha's tomato recipe its sounds so yummy.
Im really excited about this but I guess Im scared I can't make 30 days. I think if I get past 3 days I will make it the whole month.
Thanks again for all of thesuport

No need to be scared -- juice feasting is fun! Just listen to your body and you'll know when to end the fast.
Personally I didn't do any enemas or colonics and from what I've read Aleesha never did them either.
I did use some senna tea or senna tablets a few times and they really cleaned me out.

I started today a 24hour fast. I found a way to save time. The orange grove sells fresh squeezed unpasturized oj. I still have to strain the pulp. It just take a little of the work out of it when Im in a pinch. They also have fresh coconut water its a little expensive. I could drive a little further and get it half the price. I am excited for next month. I have smooth moves tea. I got the enema bag cuz Raw Angel mom's colonic story when she was water fasting. Ill see what feels good for me each day and do what my body wants. Thanks agan.

As far as Tomato Juice goes, I just started my fast yesterday and I had some last night...truly made my day! I know Aleesha drinks it on a fast cuz that's where I got the idea from.
