Hello. I was really depressed the past few days, probably because I ate cooked food & was trying to get on balance I kept on going back to food becuase of sadness. (Food has been my friend in the past.) Well I ate cooked, & woke up sick to my stomach. like nautious. I used the restroom & that did help, but I just tried to have a green drink (spinach, cucumber, celery, & parsley). It started to make me sick to my stomach. I could not drink it. I think I might have to wait till tommorow to eat till the cooked food is digested. I was going back & forth, like 2 or three days raw, then one cooked meal. This last time I have several cooked meals in two days. It made me really tired, & my back was in bad pain. I was normally having a smoothie for breakfast, a green drink for lunch, a salad or angel hair zucchini w/ veggies, & some bananna ice cream or raw pumpkin pie for desert. I know that most raw foodist eat alot more dehydrated foods at first, but my body was craving more natural foods. (I have illnesses, & probably pretty toxic body.) Do you think that is why I am craving really natural stuff?

I think my body is rejecting cooked foods very strongly. I think I am stuck being raw. (LOL)
Has anyone had these experiences? I have read about people eating cooked & being fatigued & tired, but sick? crazy.
Thanks,
Lissa

Has anyone had these experiences?Yes, absolutely. I suggest you read people's journals, and also, get your hands on some raw books that describe how toxic our bodies can be and how detoxfication with raw foods works. Then you'll know what to expect and that what's happening to you is normal. I also suggest you not stop the detox process by eating cooked foods if at all possible.

I have read about people eating cooked & being fatigued & tired, but sick? crazy.Yes, "sick." Although, you're not really sick; your body is just trying to get rid of the junk that's in there. It'll help to turn that around in your head and view it not as a sickness, but as a wellness ... your body is trying to regain the health you naturally were born with ...! Not crazy at all, but, rather, a wonderful capacity that our bodies have!

Hi, Sorry to hear your sad, try lots of new raw recipes and expand your raw menu. I was getting sad the other day so I took out Alissas book and made like 5 different things ! I didn't eat them all but I felt so much better after beacuse I had just given myself 5 new food options :)

I would get very tired after eating cooked food. It is my body using all it's energy to digest the cooked food.

Oddly enough I have gotten REALLY sick twice now trying new Raw Foods! I have found I can't have macadamias or pine nuts ! or The Braggs. I am also struggling with Garlic, now that it's uncooked is really not aggreeing with me :( . I love garlic.

But listen to your body. If you do eat cooked try to eat organic & whole grain.

I dunno Honey, I think I've been the detox queen around here...

the mess my body was in - UGH! The mess my body went through after raw - UGH!

BUT- I'm healing quite quickly. I even SEE better. Now, how cool is that? My blurred vision is almost 100 percent gone! I get a free eye exam here pretty soon - I'd love to see the progress on paper.

Last week, I awakened with what felt exactly like the flu. Was it the flu? No, it was a "healing event" ( see, we even get new language words around here ). My body was in the literal throws of getting rid of "something", and trust me, there was plenty enough of that to do! I'd only heard of things like that before. I freaked out when it happened to me! LOL My youngest daughter, about.. oh.. 40 to 50 percent raw, has had nothing but cold sores all over her mouth for weeks now.. as she's detoxing.. plus some. My eldest daughter ( 15 ), is down almost 5 pant sizes in 7 weeks. And she was the most critically ill one out of all of us ( was within 24 hours + of putting them in a hospital ). She, too, had cold sores, severe nausea and dizziness as well as sleeplessness. (She's high raw )

When I've gotten the flu in the past ( and I think I'd gotten ALL of them that were flying around ), I'd be zapped out for days on end. The nasty flu that was killing older folks and children earlier last year, I and my children got ....and I'm telling you.. we all three thought were going to die. This year, I was in bed for 6 weeks due to exhaustion and a lung infection. I know sick. ( much history )
I popped out of bed after 6 hours of feeling awful this time, babied myself.. and within 36 hours I felt better. That's A RECORD!
When my family actually did come down with a short flu just a few weeks ago - I felt absolutely _nothing_ - and I'm the highest percent raw in the house. I fully believe that's WHY, too!

My detox history for the past 7 weeks:

I've been through extreme fatigue, dizziness ( some of that was my own fault ), sleeplessness, zoning out - or what felt like too hyper. I've broken out all over my face ( just did it again... ugh ), and had strange pains in places.... thought to myself "My word! What is THIS???"
I've been elated and cranky and downright madder than a wet hen. ( emotional detox... this frightened me, but I'm working through it ). All sorts of elimination weirdness also. It was like any orafice "something" could find as a way out..it was used. ( yes, nasty talk, eh?? I know! )
My bones would hurt! That's when I knew something strange was going on....
Infections I was already carrying ( and there were several ) suddenly became worse for a little while. Wild cravings at weird times.. for stuff I'd not had in either minutes or years. ( there's another thread or two on why that can happen to people. It's a real "phenomenon", but.. it's surmountable)

But, thank goodness, throughout all of that, I could see, feel, hear, touch the difference in my overall body. I can exercise for the first time in YEARS. I'm not on my pain medication at all! In fact, I just had minor surgery a few weeks ago, and I couldn't take ANYTHING... I've become much more sensitive about what my body takes in pharmecueical. I'm about to start running again ( I've not ran in 16 years ). I'm much slimmer ( dropped 4+ dress sizes in the frist 30 days, and am down some more again ). I have muscle mass almost _everywhere_, I have stamina, and I can concentrate better when I need to. I use only a mineral spray for deodorant, and I sweat! I don't need to wear perfume ( I was spray queen, too ), I don't need to constantly bathe my hair ( a blessing for my type of hair and it's length ).

It might not feel really comfortable, but it really IS worth it. I've noticed so many things about the changes I'm going through.. too many to list, but.. to answer your questions.....

Yes, people have gotten very ill from eating cooked food after or inbetween raw ( some say this is a dangerous practice. I don't know whether or not that is true; I just started in September. I know it feels HORRIFIC even days or weeks later. I found that astounding, too. Sorta like.. "Wow, this stuff is really exists! How many other ways have I hurt myself?")

Yes, this can be very common. Especially if you're sick to begin with ( and I was ).

Raw truth,

What books do you reccomend. I have read 3 of Paul Nison's books, & a little bit of alissa's (I have been paying soo much to the recipes that I haven't gotten thru it all.) Ummmm, I think that is it so far.

MBF,
Ya I do need to make some more recipes, I have just been dead the past few days. I still get cooked food cravings, & I gave in. I was really down in the dumps ( becuase I ate a cooked meal & it made me sad, didn't know what I was sad about, I think it was because I ate SAD.

Renee SC,

I used to LOVE perfume, I have sooo many bottles. I think I might have to sell them on ebay or something, because when I am around perfume, it irritates my nose & I get a little tired. I was reading something on the greenpeace website that was saying that there are some toxic chemicals that are in perfume, Ican email it to you, I don't know if I can put it up, because I was reading some posts & they said not to put other websites or something.
Wow, you have been thru alot of detox, I might have alot also. I was wanting to talk to you about the meds you were taking & what diseases that you had. I haven't been taking my medicine for insulin resistance, I seem to have low blood sugar symptoms when eating raw & taking them.

Thanks for all the replies!

Hi HoneyBee Joy:

Oh. I can so totally relate. I love Indian food and I just had my barfday so my brother and his girlfriend - who know I'm raw but don't totally get it - took me out for Indian food for dinner. Of course Hedonist Queen won out over Raw Queen. I THREW UP that night. On my birthday and I didn't even drink any alcohol! I almost never throw up, even WITH alcohol!

Another thing I've noticed is that since I've been raw my personality has gotten nicer and kinder. Smoother, you know? I think the fairies and the goddesses like me better! LOL! But so true! So I noticed, last weekend (before my birthday barfday) that the Monday after eating a lot of cooked over the weekend I was a miserable B.... to everyone, nasty nasty nasty. My mood improved completely after going back to 100% raw for a couple of days.

On raw, my PMS has leveled out and I look better, among other things. As for books, my sis has The Detox Miracle Sourcebook and it looks fabulous. My own copy is on order so I'll let you know.

Take care! Cheli

Just wanted to chime in and say that I too have felt quite terrible after eating even a bit of cooked food. Immediately afterwards, I feel like there is a rock in my stomach and even have found it hard to lie on my stomach in bed, though I didn't feel like I really ate all that much. The next day is worse, when I have hangover-type symptoms. A few of these episodes is what it took to get me all raw, though. Once I made the connection between the post-cooked feeling and the hangover feeling, it kind of clicked for me. I haven't even thought about cooked food lately, even when my husband is eating it right in front of me. I guess the memory of the pain is still fresh. ;)
