It is interesting if there are people here with hypothyroidism. There are many challengers with raw diet with this condition since a long list of raw food are goitrogenous. In additional to this, it is advisable to avoid gluten witch further eliminates even more good food. I am so sad to see spinach, strawberries, pears in this list. Of course there are a lot more.
I have read a survey here http://www.iowasource.com/food/lenkastudy_0806.html
saying that there is a bit of chance not to succeed with this diet with hypothyroidism.

How are you doing? Have you had any challenges?
I have read some very old threads but was not successful in reaching people who posted them.

Hi Egle, I just posted on your other thread an article about fluoride. Have you looked into it?

I'm hypo, after being hyper and having my thyroid ablated/killed -twice- with radioactive iodine. (sigh)

I'll be honest - I never minded those lists of foods to avoid because I am hypo... You asked how we're doing / challenges? I'm doing okay. I still struggle with being tired. No particular challenges though. I'm happy to share any info you'd be interested in.

Yeh, I know about fluoride. I have read it earlier. We do not have fluoride in our water here. But I should replace my toothpaste with the one without fluoride. Unfortunately it is still on my "to do" list :)

BebB, nice to hear from you. BebB, you say you eat all these goitrogenous foods? Does it not affect your lab test results? I have read some posts that people got worse when they started this diet. This is perpahs that they ate goitrogenous food. I am still thinking whether I should be cautious about what raw foods to eat or not. I would love to have cabbage and cabbage-related vegs in my diet as they make me feel very good. Are you on Armour? I take 1 grain a day (I take a different brand).
My thyroids would have been normal if not too much antibodies. But I am having too much antibodies. I am not feeling tired but roughly every month I feel different symptoms that not always I can explain what is going on. A month ago I was feeling very cold. At the moment I am sweating at nights a lot. I do not know for better this or for worse. A week ago I got a TSH reading 0.8 which is not bad. I did not measure anything else.

Somebody has asked about iodine. No, I am not allowed to take iodine as long as my antibodies will be above the norm. Iodine increases antibodies directly. I cannot take it even though I need it.

I think night sweats can be a detox symptom. My bf started getting this when he improved his diet at some point. You could probably reduce the symptoms by taking hot baths or saunas to increase sweating (apparently exercise is not the same). Definitely if the sweating goes away after some days - say a week or so - it is nothing to worry about. If it continues for a long time it could be a symptom of an underlying problem and you should get it checked out.

I have hypothyroidism. Bummer huh!?!? But I eat whatever I want as long as it is raw. I'm careful, but not overly. I still eat those things. When I am 100% I'm at an ideal weight. It's my only hope for normalcy with my thyroid condition. No all my tests come back great. Good luck following your own path. :)

I have all my lab work results in a folder if there's any info you'd like from them.

I was on Armour until it became almost impossible to get. So my doctor has me on 2 separate compounded caps (like Armour) and a little bit of generic synthroid. However, I took myself off one of the compounds as I felt it was causing my skipped heart beats. I'm actually only taking my thyroid meds every other day as I'm now taking dessicated glandulars to help support my own thyroid and let it produce what it needs to.

I was taking 3 drops of Lugol's idone twice a day (in water), but I've stopped that as well (on my own.)

I'm happy to share any info that may help you out.

Good to hear this! This brings me hope as well. Do you also have Hashimoto?

No, just hypo. I was diagnosed with it and put on hormone replacement about two years ago now, but I've been tested for it since I was twelve. I started eating raw back in February 2006. It took me 8 months to lose all my extra weight and I stayed there for a couple years. Then I began struggling. I'm an emotional eater to begin with. Every thing went south for us financially and I told myself as soon as things got better I could afford to eat raw again. Well, I didn't. It took me several years, but I'm back to where I was before I ever ate raw and now...I'm trying to get back to 100% again. Trying to take off the weight and get healthy. Raw can do it. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it work for me. I just have to find the motivation. I can do it. I've done it before. And so can you. :D I know you can. Good luck on your journey.

Hi to everyone interested. I am back with my lab readings. :woot: My antibodies (ATPO) is within norm limits. It means that the autoimmune process against thyroids had stopped! Last month I have decreased my thyroid hormone intake (F4+F3) from 50mg to 25 mg / a day and my TSH reading is 1.09! WOW! My doctor has warned me that it can easily come back but at this moment I am very glad.
