View Full Version : Need ideas for a raw dessert recipe for Christmas

I want to make a raw desert for Christmas and am not yet sure what to do.

Some things I've done before:
-Banana cream pie
-Sugar cream pie
-Berry crumble

But none of these are very "Christmas-ee", does anyone have better ideas? Obviously it can't be dehydrated (or not more than just a few hours) since it has to be ready in just over 24 hours from now.

Thanks

You could still get something done by then. I had a raw pumpkin tart that really sealed the deal that I'd never miss cooked food! I know the crust was made of soaked dates and macs or almonds with coconut. The filling was some vanilla bean, coconut butter, pumpkin and spice. I'll try to find the recipe.... :)

Thanks but I don't think I really like pumpkin flesh, and I think I'll make a 3 layer chocolate/mint cake, 1 layer chocolate cake, 1 layer mint fudge, 1 layer (top) melted chocolate.

I bought the ingredients earlier and think this will be a hit. I've done this as nanaimo bars before and it was awesome.

Thanks

Oy, mint and chocolate are one of my favorite flavor combos. Next to peanuts and chocolate.
Good luck with it! I have yet to make a raw dessert!

Me too, I love anything mint chocolate, I've even made coconut milk-mint ice cream with raw chocolate chips in it, like a raw version of Deadly Queen (Dairy Queen) chocolate mint smoothie! However I prefer mint chocolate over peanut chocolate though.

I had posted my recipe of chocolate mint nanaimo bars before and will likely bump/repost it as I make it again.

That turtle pie looks really good (but I'd use a raw sweetener), I still have a few minutes to decide if I make the chocolate mint cake or the turtle pie.

Thanks

Not particularly Christmas style but we've got some amazing smelling cookies dehydrating now.

apple/carrot juice pulp with a little of the juice put back in blended until smooth
Mashed bananas into a pudding like consistency get added into the blended pulp
coconut flakes and dates go in next

smells outstanding, I am having to resist so they make it to our Christmas gathering tomorrow. And the boy was wanting them all night.

Thank you so much for this recipe, it was the biggest hit among my SAD family of everything served, they were almost having an orgasm as they were eating! They want me to show them how to make it! I also ended up making the nanaimo bar recipe too.

I'll make a separate thread about the full story because it deserves one.

I know it's past Christmas, but I wanted to add an apple pie recipe which I absolutely LOVE.

CRUST
2c almonds - I soak em to release the enzyme inhibitors then I dehydrate em so they are dry
2c dates
1 tsp sea salt

SYRUP
1/2 c dates
1 orange peeled
splash of water as needed - typically if you use a food processor you don't need water

FILLING
5c apples, peeled, seeded, thinly sliced
1c raisins
2TBS ground cinnamon

Crust - put almonds and sea salt into food processor and pulse. You still want chunks not a complete powder. Now take and pour the almond/sea salt into a colander/sieve over your pie dish and bump the sieve so that some of the "flour" sprinkles the bottom of the pie dish. This will help your pie slices come out easily.

Put it back into your food processor and add the dates and mix it all together until it becomes doughy. Place in pie dish and shape it.

Syrup - put the orange into your food processor and add the dates. You may need to do the orange first then slowly add dates. But then maybe not. LOL

Now take your syrup and add it to the sliced apple pieces in a large bowl, add the raisins, add the cinnamon, and mix it all up. Once throughly mixed spread it evenly onto your crust. Put in fridge. Will taste the best 12 hours later, but good luck making it last that long.

That's a recipe from the book, "Ani's Raw Food Kitchen". There's also a mango cobbler in there that's ohhh sooo . There's also a persimmon pie recipe in there that I would love to try if I ever get the persimmons I bought to ripen.

Which raw sweetener did you use instead of maple syrup, please?

I ended up using agave, but only because I had no liquid honey (or rather, my liquid honey solidified), I rarely if ever use agave since studies showing it is worst than high fructose corn syrup.

I generally use agave (raw & organic) because it is does not affect my blood sugars like honey does. So, I am glad to know it tasted good with the agave. Honey would give it a totally different flavor and I wonder if your guests/family would have enjoyed it as much made with honey as the agave does taste just like white sugar syrup! Ü

It is free and no you do not have to be a member. It works fine for me. I use Firefox, if that helps.

Here's the link to their contact page: http://www.rawfoodrecipes.com/contact-raw-food-recipes.html

I don't know if that will work for you or not.

They also have a facebook page so you could try contacting them that way to see why it does not work for you.

Good luck!
