Hi-
I decided to take the raw food smoothie plunge using an Oster blender for now.
My oster will blend everything but there will be small fragments of skin and kale. I do not think you can drink it from a straw with out straining first.
How smooth can you expect a blender smoothie to be if it is made from kale and apples?
Will a vitamix smooth out everything including the skin bits?
If the vitamix can produce smoothies with the consistancy of V8 then I would upgrade.
THANKS
Ken

If you can't get a vitamix now. You can strain. I started blending and straining. Pick a strainer with large enough holes to keep it smoothie consistancy. I have a fine strainer because Ive been making juice. I got tired of cleaning the juicer. I burned out 3 blenders before I got the vitamix. You might want to stick to spinach for now. It blends well.

Spinach is a good idea.
Glad to know the vitamix will do the job.
Seems like when I follow recipes, the mixture is way too thick.
Should I keep adding water to get things smoother or should I blend more?
I usually blend for 30 sec after the chunks dissapear.

In the blender I use way less of everything. I do have to add water. Probably about 2 cups to make a decent smoothie. Banannas seem to make them thick also. Enjoy.

Yeah, you can add water, ice cubes, nut mylk, fresh juices, coconut water..... just add enough so it's the right consistency for you! I drink my smoothies in a mason jar with a straw, so it's gotta be "suckable."
Btw I also have an Oster and it's absolutely fine for my smoothies. Spinach, parsley and sprouts are all easy greens, kale and collards I chop up fine before adding and blend them with water (or other liquid) for a while first before adding the fruits.
When my motor gives out I'll probably get a Vitamix, but for now my poor old Oster's doing a really good job!

Before I got my Blendtec blender I had trouble burning out Oster blenders(smaller bottle and smaller motor)
and when I let it blend enough to be smooth it got warm....
Now it rips fast and cool as long as i have enough water, rejuvelac or juice

I use a ninja blender and it leaves lots of bits, but I just chew my smoothies, I would never want to strain out that goodness.

I wish I could handle the pulp better. The pulp I get from the Oster is a little too much. I strain then add about 1/5 back.
Maybe it's the strong "green" taste more than the consistency. I will try adding berries to calm down the taste.
I wish I wasn't allergic to bananas.

Before I bought my Vitamix I made a few green smoothies with a regular blender and this is what worked for me. Chop the greens small, "or tear em by hand cus then there's less to wash, lol", put em in the blender first and add water, blend em up nice and smooth. Then begin adding your other ingredients.
I agree with Revell. Yes it gets the smoothie smooooth and breaks up the skin bits. I'm very happy I shelled out the dough for one.

My friend makes the best juices with the Magic bullet. She strains it after blending. I have been doing that also with a nut milk bag. You can use strainers with different size holes depending on how smooth you want it. Pasta strainer will get the big chunks out but youll still have a smoothie.
