View Full Version : New to raw food

I'm a college student at RIT, and I've always tried to eat healthy. I don't know that much about raw foods, but I watched a lot of YouTube videos about it, and thought I should give it a shot. I don't think I'll go 100% raw like some people do (I love scrambled eggs), but maybe over time I will. I'm definitely eating healthier than I did 2 months ago. Yesterday I got two containers of mushrooms, two green peppers, a three pound bag of baby carrots, and a quart of grape tomatoes. My goals are to lose a little bit of weight (10-20 pounds) and start running long distances again like I used to do in high school. What really got me thinking about raw foods is that I've been eating a whole avocado for breakfast each of the last 3 days. This forum looks like a great way to learn about other people's stories and advice.

I thought I would miss certain things from SAD too, but now that I'm on raw I don't. I have cravings but they're for bananas and raw nuts (lol) and eating raw gives me a better sense of discipline so I don't find myself really overeating. It's hard to overeat raw anyway. I go to Whole Foods a lot and I used to be all about their samples. The last two times I went I still had samples of all the raw fruits and veggies and I tried a few cooked ones only to realize I don't care much for that food. It's dead. Raw has given me my sense of smell back, which means I can also taste better and that's my biggest incentive to stay raw.

That raw vegan breakfast alternative looks good, but I can't try it until I get back home for the holiday break in 2 weeks since I don't have a food processor at my apartment.
The next time I go to Wegmans I'll get some almonds and walnuts, and give soy milk a try. Are there any other kinds of nuts to look into getting?

There are so many kinds of raw nuts available in bulk in some stores. I don't know what types of supermarkets are in your area, but i have Whole Foods which is great. Target sells a branch i think it's called Archer Farms I bought some of their raw almonds and the raw mixed nuts. They were affordable but not nearly as fresh tasting as the whole foods ones. Whole Foods also has bagged trail mixes and some of them have all raw nuts.
