Well, I live in a country where bananas and many fruits don't grow and there aren't any places nearby where they do, so the only way to get bananas for me is to get them at the shop. I can get organic ones but not local ones.
How important is local and why is it important?

Freshness of produce mostly but also food miles from a polluting point of view.

For fruit and vegetables, buying local is absolutely vital because freshness is the single most important factor for most folks doing raw because the nutrient loss is minimal and the electromagnetic vibration (chi) will still be intact. Food vibration is everything if you function as an average person. The higher the vibration, the higher the sunlight it absorbs and the more energy it will give you to function at the highest level you can.
Best to eat organic instead of having food with chemicals in it.
lf you can't get fresh fruit, then try doing without it. Personally my thoughts are that not getting bananas is a blessing, you aren't missing much. lt's just a sweet shoddy hybrid food that science minded folks argue is good for no person. l just ate a banana that was organic but not local...what a load of garbage and now my stomach is hurting. lf it is not local it WON'T WON'T WON'T be ripe, so it will acidify your body and you will lose life-force and nutrition like l am doing right now. l tried some store bought oranges earlier...GARBAGE...not ripe either. Fruit pickers don't care, and businesses don't care either...as long as people can sell their fruit. Pick the fruit yourself or don't bother with it, how else can you trust that it is picked ripe. lf you pick it slightly before it is ripe then certain things that develop in fruit in the late stages are missing and you won't be getting the full benefits of the fruit.
Real fruit is a luxury, and very few people have access to it these days, so forget about it because most fruit is RUBBISH and bad for you because it isn't ripe enough, is often old and lacking vitality and won't be enough to keep you well nourished if you eat alot of it everyday.
Fruit works best if it is grown locally and eaten within a couple of days of being eaten, or even picked directly or off the ground as it is freshly fallen. Unfortunately most people living in the moden world don't qualify to eat fruit, so don't even waste your time thinking about such impossible goals.
Fruit might look like fruit, but for most people living in the modern world it is complete and utter garbage that no-one in their right mind should be buying unless they keep it as a very very minimal part of their diet for a fun treat. lt sounds harsh, but l am sick of the con merchants selling this rubbish and diddling the public with food not even suitable for a junk yard dog.

Raven7,
Yes it seems to make sense that fruit ripened on a tree/bush/plant and picked when fully ripe will be best. Most fruits will ripen off the plant enough that eating it beats eating at Macdonalds or similar.
Strawberries, for example, don't ripen off the plant so it's good to go to a "pick your own farm" or better still grow your own.
If we had relied on eating only freshly picked fruits, picked at full ripeness then we would have become extinct a long time ago - many would say it's a pity we didn't!
Eat raw foods that are as fresh and as ripe as possible. Don't worry about it too much. Worry is probably worse for you than unripe fruit.

Raven you have to do the best you can with your own circumstances. I buy what I can at the farmers market but the rest I have to go to the store. You could try a small garden of your own. Good luck and do whats best for you.

I grew up having a huge garden in the back yard so now that I live in the city I have no choice but to go to the supermarket. I have Whole Foods, which I like a lot. They do have some locally grown stuff but this time of year in Chicago there's not much. WF does have a reputation for keeping their stock as fresh as possible, though. I miss the garden a lot!! I have a pot of herbs on my windowsill it's very nice to have.
