What a cool threat Sharon. I looked at these pictures and I am longing for a kitchen like that someday. As we all know, with other family members who aren't as "enthusiastic" about this lifestyle, it's a bit difficult.
But, lets shoot for the stars and perhaps we'll reach the clouds!

Cool pictures. I wondering what can I actually store in my stove. We actually call it the pizza maker. My DH still has an occassional frozen Amy's pizza. That is the only food the oven ever bakes.
Any suggestions for what I can store in the oven?

Janie's kitchen is drool-worthy, plus she lives in Hawaii with all my favorite fruits! I visited her site many times when I was first considering the raw lifestyle.
Here's my question... do they all have really big 100% raw families? How on earth are they able to eat all that before it goes bad?

Hi Kmik,
I know little Janie (under 100 pounds) eats 3,500 calories a day!!!! There are 3 in her family. They also buy fruits in stages so some are ready to eat right now, some in a few days and some even later.
I would love to have a kitchen like the ones posted above, but with a hubby and 2 children who still eat S.A.D., it's not going to happen.

Neat to see in another kitchen!
I was storing things ON my stove, and my husband would come in freaking! He thought it was too dangerous. I looked at him queer and asked him why would it be if we weren't using it that much ??
I'll warm water on it, but he cooks on it, still, so that's why.
Aside, this is the second time he's allowed salmon to spoil in the fridge. :) He's just not cooking these days, much, either. ( yah!)
What to store in the oven: Nothing if it's gas and still has a lit pilot light.
Nothing if it's electric and still plugged in.
Anything can go in that won't spoil more quickly without air flow or light - only if it's unplugged and no pilot lights.

When we go shopping and I kinda straighten things up a bit, I'll post a pic of my raw kitchen!
I wish I had taken a photo of my kitchen in Detroit before we moved. My husband had built me a nice little system for all my appliances and we had storage baskets underneath it for storing fruit, hanging wire baskets hanging from the ceiling with fruit in those and he made this neat "banana tree" out of wire which hung from ceiling and we hung bananas from it to keep them from laying on their sides. Because we're in an apartment now, we can't hook it up like it was before, but it's still a raw kitchen nonetheless! :D

Renee thanks for the tip about gas ovens and pilot lights. I never would have thought that made a difference.

How totally cool!! Would love to have a kitchen like that and only shared by raw food...I can't see DH ever converting to a raw food or even high food lifestyle...but who knows.....something to aspire to~ *s* Thanks for posting!! :)

Hi Sharon in Colorado. I am so glad you asked this question. I actually ran across the same pictures last week and was so inspired and impressed as I am just starting this journey. I printed out those pics and put them on my fridge.
So here are pics from my humble kitchen. We are still in the process of "rawing" our kitchen so please excuse the "other" food in the pantry pics.
I have tried to include a lot of detail. Including my "menu" (else I forget what the heck I was going to make :o ), on it I keep track of what is soaking and dehydrating in/out times and my green lemonade card, I put this up in the hopes a family member will suprise me in bed on morning with my "green breakfast" in bed as that is what I have every morning!
I always keep a pen handy to make notes in my cookbooks.
I also included all the raw food I had lying around:
Cruncy Flax Seed Cookies/Raw;The UNcook Book by Juliano Pg164
(the famous) Date Nut Torte/Alissa Cohen pg483 :)
Apricot Bread/Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine by Gabriel Cousens pg319
Cranberry Maple Granola/Raw Food real world by Matthew Kenny & Sarma Melngailis pg269
Basic Crackers/Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine by Gabriel Cousens pg302 (reduce salt to 1 t. I think they misprinted saying 2T!! )
I hope this helps. I would LOVE to see others pictures too!! :D
Cheers
PS; the salad pic is Alissa Almost Tuna it is UNBELIVABLE!!! :D :D
PPS;If anyone would like me to send these pics full sized (as I had to compress them) just let me know and I will email them.

where can you get those large square covers for the surface of the stove? that would be very functional since I am short on kitchen surface space. our stove isn't even plugged in, but we rent so can't get rid of it.

This is an awesome (or should I say, rawsome) thread!!! I loved seeing the kitchen without an oven and that frig with all the colorful fruit and veggies. (I wonder who eats all that stuff, though.)
Eachpeachpearplum, what can I say? I'm inspired. I look forward to the day when my kitchen is so healthy.
Keep 'em coming folks.

EPPP: LOL@ Sharon's comment of "Rawk Star".. hahaha.. that's cute.
Love the kitchen, Hon! You're SO organized! Wow!!
Rawkinloc's: Do you have any photos stored of what your husband did before you moved? I'd love to see the basket contraption he built. I'm going to have my husband put tracks down in some of the cabinets and install moveable baskets on them for storage. Is that similar?

Just put a beige telephone wire across the kitchen for a banana tree but hubby doesn't like.
Well, it does look a little tacky, really. The line that is, not the bananas.
Any ideas on what to use for something more inconspicous?

We don't have many bananas in the pantry at any given time, unless they are too green and are ripening. About 80% of our bananas go into the freezer in chunks for smoothies, or just eating. I'm not a fan of bananas....texture, I guess....but love them frozen.
Of course, there are just two of us now. if my 5 kids were home again and eating raw, I guess we'd have to plant a banana tree !!!

Not a great close up of our raw kitchen, but it's a full shot. Our table is an extention of our corian counter top which is a GREAT surface for our VERY ACTIVE family.
In one of the shots you can see all of our Home Schooling material on the counter. We took a break that afternoon from HS'ing and made some caramel apples.
LOVE the idea of using a covering for the stove top!!!!!! Going shopping tomorrow!

Well, here is our kitchen,
our 3 dehydrators with one of our carved dragons on top (notice the tapestry behind the dehydrators ;o)
our champion juicer and kitchen center (oster made these years ago, they were so cool, blender, mixer, food processor, salad shooter, etc, all with one motor)
the area next to the sink, with a few gadgets, and the cutting board over the stove (I think this is the number one clue that you are in a raw kitchen)
the built in microwave is now our herb cabinet
and my antique French stove, with some veggies from our gardens, 2 stained glass windows I made about 30 years ago, to go into the castle I built with my Ex-he got the castle, I got the windows. LOL and here are our carved kitchen doors which lead into the foyer.
Notice all the dragons, I collect them, so does Dragggon, there are 97 dragons in our kitchen that can be seen, (this doesn't count dragon glasses or dishes etc.) although I don't know how many can be seen in these photos.

SG, YES, I KNEW you'd see that cute little fairy, she was a Christmas ornament, pretty ceramic bisque and I thought she was so beautiful, she needed to be seen all the time, so put her in my kitchen to be near. I've had this tapestry since forever, when I started dancing, I looked so much like her, big hips and all, so we had to have it. YES, There are a few dehydrators here, but we do have them all running alot, still doing the herbs, basil mostly, and the squash chips, they take up alot of room.
*******
rawandnatural, thank you
*******
Sharon, my stove cover was the bread board that came in my house, it fits the stove almost perfectly, then I had Dragggon put a 1" by 1" by the depth of the stove piece of wood underneath to keep it up off the burners, turned off the stove circuit breaker, and voila', It actually isn't a cutting board, it is a bread board, so it will damage if cut on too much, or with too much liquid eventually, but it is what comes in kitchens, and you can always replace them. I mostly use it to put my dehydrator trays on while preparing them, or to put all the produce on, while cutting in on our small bamboo ones.
********
I have one of those built in ovens, at eye level, it's not in these pics, and I store all my grains in there.

Simple Girl,
I have one of those built in ovens, at eye level, it's not in these pics, and I store all my grains in there, in a large flat roasting pan, so I can see everything and pull it all out to get to the stuff in the back easily. Should have taken a pic of that too, but didn't.

Truthseeker,
I LOVE your kitchen, how big and beautiful (of course with your cuties, it would be) and I LOVE the windows, how pretty. I have this one tiny little thing over the sink, I've always wanted to rip out that wall, and put in this huge big garden window, that take sup the whole wall. Maybe I will, I've been itchen' to do some more remodling, much to Dragggon's dismay, because I like to do all the work myself (with his help of course) poor guy.
**********
Rawkinlocs,
I wanna' see that banana tree, you hubby sounds like he's pretty handy. And I saw a pic of your littlest one, what a doll he is, you must be such a good mama, to have such a happy baby.
**********
eatpeachpearplum,
I love how organized you are, I just toss everything into double freezer baggies, and lay them in a bin, you've got everything so beautiful and organized in those nice glass jars and all, plus the bins of fruit, how great is that?
I think glass canisters are the very best for storage. I was always so afraid of dropping them on the tile, I've got a few broken tiles in my kithcen floor, and a couple on the counter top too, because of dropping heavy things onto them, so was always kind of afraid of dropping those big glass canisters. So, I use baggies, they don't break tile. :o)
I bet they are nice to set out on a counter when in use too, the baggies I use, kind of crawl across the counters and comingle, as if trying to mate or something.

Sweetgoddess - what time should I expect you????? I'll be waiting!
Thanks for the nice comments. AND yes, it does take most people a while to accumulate all of the new raw appliances and toys. AND while I think mine is mostly complete, then I will See Sonething that Samual has and I'll have to run right out and get it. (Like the mango slicer). AND my kitchen isn't always this abundant, somedays we run everything right out and have to go on a huge shopping trip, however, I try to avoid that if I can and pick stuff up every now and then when I am out.
Glad that you enjoyed!

Janie lives in RAW PARADISE - "for real" :D
Hi eachpeachpearplum - I like your kitchen
Hello NoGMO,
Since your stove is electric you should be able to disconnect the round burner coils. They just leift up a little and pull them out to disconnect. Then measure your stove top area and goto your local hardware store, they always have precut lumber squares you can purchase - pretty cheap. Sand it down, find a good size cutting board or put some type of sealer on the board, so it'll last for you. :)
If it's a smooth top stove, just put some type of protector - clothe ,rubber, etc.. between the board and the stove so it won't get damaged.

OK..we did some organinizing all DAY Sunday...I got rid of a ton of SAD food..not everything as Husband eats a few things. What a "cleansing" thing to do..I organized entire kitchen & it was so much easier today. :)
I am the most proud of emptying what was once a SAD laden spin-around & is now the home of some of my RAW GADGETS...Storage tools & my teflex sheets..rolled & standing in a bin for easy access.
I also found that by taking out the drawer I had room for some great bins from Wal-Mart for fruits & veggies in the fridge. :)
Here's my photos..

Well done, theres nothing more "cleansing" the good clear out! I found once I did my kitchen I then started doing the rest of the house. Getting rid of clutter IN your body seems to affect how you want your surroundings to be also. :)
Cheers,

PS: It looks like you might have some leftover smoothie on the top shelf? I have found using a dark Nalgene bottle VERY good. I have tried several type of smoothie fridge storage and this does the treat. You can get them at any sporting good store.

sweepea32 (Mary), unfortunately, the baskets were stolen, so I can not disclose the location from which they were obtained. The main reason being prison. I have watched way too many episodes of OZ on HBO.
They do sell them at Wal-Mart though.
Oh, and thanks so much for the kind words Mary. I sure do appreciate all the positive feedback. I am more than happy to pass on what I learn so that all may benefit.

Late last year we considered selling our home. When the realtor came out to look around and give us her thoughts on pricing, etc., she opened the pantry and asked "so, where do you keep all your food?" I said, "it's all there, and in the fridge of course." But she continued, "I mean your food-food." She just didn't get it. After she left, my husband and I laughed about it. He thought she was talking about boxed stuff, cereal, etc. The memory of that conversation still gets me.
Well, anyway, here is our kitchen. I have appreciated everyone's ideas about how to better utilize space for storage. One thing that I did was purchase cutting boards the same size as my cook top. I just took the burners off and now I use the surface more pratically. I have a total of 6 burners in my kitchen, so I still have some to heat water and for whatever I need for husband, kids, guests, etc. - and I can always replace the other ones quickly enough. But this works well for me.
Thanks for sharing your kitchen ideas everyone. This is a great thread.

That is my side of the kitchen. The blender is on the other side of the sink. Below is my cabinet of raw thing such as olive oil and apple cider vinager. In the refridgerator I have two drawers and a shelf for me lol. I also have another refrigerator in the garage for me, but at the moment they're both empty because I'm juice fasting :)

Thanks for those kitchen links. I am just getting started to an all out raw transition. (though I have been collecting raw books for some time) I am trying to talk my husband into a second refridgerator to replace our 25 cubic foot freezer. Our main refridgerator is a side by side (I regretted that purchase right away as we lost about 1/3 of the refridgeration space - but I love the ice and water in the door!! :) ) Anyway, I really liked the storage ideas presented in the pics! Thanks for sharing! God Bless!

Hey JR,
Dont be closed in your thinking about your space. What other areas do you have in your house? Do a walk about and look at nooks & cranies with an eye to food storage, especially under and up high on top of things. For instance I keep all my extra fruit & veg in the garage because it's generally VERY cold in there.
Some use the space in their microwave or oven. How's about getting a chest of drawers that would look good in the living/dining room and use it to put your fruit nuts ect in. Target have those microwave trollies that have several shelves & wheels. You could put that outside your kitchen & wheel it in when you need a bit more counter space.
Think out of the box! Having lived in London where you can touch all four walls of your kitchen at once gave me a whole new way of looking at space!
All the best :o

I am sooooo glad I found this thread..
I have been trying to find ways around my kitchen to keep things more organized and space efficient.. I share my kitchen with my soap supplies plus SAD ingredients.. so it is a mish mosh.. Since starting making soaps and collecting essential oils etc.. I have been wanting to build a cabinet for them. I live in a small apartment so I have to make sure things can be movable. So I can take them with me if we move..My kitchen is the typical long narrow kind.
RawPreistess; Anytime you would like to hand down some dragons to a loving home.. Please send them my way. Due to the many X's I have had to leave alot behind. Now in my ummm younger years of 50 I refuse to leave my babies behind..
Those stained glass windows your hubby made are wonderful. My collection are now small items on a brass and glass shelf.. And some stuffies.. The biggest thing I have is a pencil drawing an old boyfriend made for me of a dragon. Hanging over my fireplace.
Back to the kitchens---The Glass cannisters are wonderful. I have wondered how people store the dry goods.. like nuts and seeds etc. I guess I will be collecting things soon. As I plan to have more of a raw kitchen then a SAD one..
Looking for a great way to store the green things like parsely, and leafy greens. where they do not wilt so fast. I have paid attention to what people are keeping their fruits in too. I always thought they were to be in something that is airy so they can breath...
Bananas..... now this is something too I wonder about.. on those trees and strings..do they ripen slower or about the same as being on a counter..?? Being up higher where heat would rise it seems they would ripen faster... I can not buy often due to finances and space is limited to buy in too much quantity..Plus with only me eating this way they go bad fast..
Shelving wise.. a suggestion.. At the dollar stores you can find a cheap decorative metal shelf with 4 shelves(wire) that can be used for storage.. it is about 4to 5 ft tall and about 20 in wide maybe a touch more.I use this for my curing soaps.. but may exchange it for fruits...
Thanks to everyone who has supplied kitchen pics.. please keep them coming.. especially any from small appartments or that dorm room sounded great... and we never did get a pic about a banana tree....
Garage sales and flee markets here we come........................................

Just to let you know, I made the stained glass dragon windows, my hubby just built the wood around them, they were built to go into a castle I built on an island with an Ex-hubby, many many years ago, in my early 20's. I got them and the castle door 8 feet high, 500 pounds of solid oak, 400+ years old.
We have boxed up so many dragons in our attic, because our fans send them to us all the time. and we can't throw them away, or sell them, so we put them in the attic.
Dragggon (my hubby) and I both have collected dragons our entire lives, posters, painting, stuffed animals, furniture, rugs, clothes, kimonos, tapestries, blown glass, silver, urns, vases, jewelry, and yes jewelry and more jewelry, and pewter, and treasures from around the world.
But my favorite is the 150 pound bronze dragggon that holds our 22 pound bowling ball sized crystal ball in the center of our dining room table.
His name is Heathcliff, he is VERY special.
I can't even begin to guess how many we have many thousands.

Storing in the freezer?? I have heard that before.. What do you store in?? the bags in the bulk food section seem to be very flimsy. Do you use regular freezer bags? Do you not worry about moisture getting into the seeds when you take them out to use them? (sweating) If they were stored in mason jars would there be a rancidity issue.. Sorry for these questions as I have never really stored anything like this before...

Hi all,
I've enjoyed the pictures here. Thought I'd share my experience with you.
We are in the process of remodeling our home. DH knocked the wall out of a bedroom to connect the office with the dining room. I homeschool our many children and have always wanted my large desk area next to the table where the kids study. I was out of state when he planned & executed this. He and one of my wonderful sons worked on it for quite some time before I even knew they were up to anything. I began to suspect something when they pleaded with me not to come home for awhile. I'm allergic to dust, so my presence would have been a hindrance while they dry-walled.
These changes also enlarged the dining room. DH also made a built-in open pantry for produce. We'll be installing pull-out baskets. Have tempory wire shelving in at the moment while we work on other projects. It's lovely to see all those fruits and veggies, yet they're neatly tucked away off the counters. He's designed a floor-to-ceiling banana treeto sit right beside the pantry. Our family goes through a box of bananas a week for fresh eating, dehydrated treats, smoothies, and any other way we can think of to use them. I have planned herb gardens throughout the kitchen, dining room, and office. Just waiting for the flooring to be finished up.
We have a huge kitchen. He surprised me with an extra sink put in the island, so I now have a larger soaking / sprouting area with its own sink. Since we have extra space in the adjoining laundry room, we've always had two refrigerators and a chest freezer in the house. This makes for plenty of space for food storage. I am so excited about the changes he's making for me. What a treasure the Lord has given me! I don't have the proper equipment, but perhaps when my father (a camera buff) visits in November, he can take pictures for me to post for you.
I hope that each of you enjoys your kitchen, for all are unique. Happy food prep!

What are ethylene filters? What are FreshSaver canisters?
Have any of you gotten these wire baskets into production? If you were able to obtain them, how are they working? They look great.
I was wondering if the produce would tend to dry out just in a basket? I saw pics of square clear plastic lidded containers which I thought would be ideal. You can see what's in them and they would preserve some humidity.

Oh, I just love photos of raw kitchens. Thanks everyone who posted theirs. I don't have a cutting board for my stove so what I do is put a clean bath towel over it (after removing the knobs so the stove can't be turned on) and pile fruit on it to ripen.
I usually buy a brown paper grocery bag full of bananas every week so I need a large space for them to ripen.

RP, LOVE that belly dancing tapestry! I would love something like that...I'm a dancer myself. :)

I live alone in a one-bedroom carriage house. Though I have cathedral ceilings in my LR and BR, my kitchen is definitely small. Lots of cupboards, but not a lot of space. I got a large wooden cutting board from IKEA and put it on top of my teeny stove, storing the burners in the stove. The one thing I've found, especially since I only uncook for one, is that I'll forget some produce in the fridge. I've since started writing out a list of everything I have in the fridge and posting it. That way I can come home and figure out a yummy meal with the ingredients I have, and just cross out what I use up and then put it on my shopping list. Sounds anal, I know, but otherwise stuff will go to waste.

Thanks to everyone who has shared a glimpse of their kitchen - very inspiring! No matter what the size, ANY clean, dedicated space that invites us to lovingly prepare our meals is appreciated. The photos and messages on this thread motivated me to take a "raw" look at my own kitchen.
One last vestige of my pre-raw lifestyle has been coffee! I'm of the opinion that my belief about whether something is of benefit to my wellbeing or not is what drives the results I experience. Coffee had been a tough drug for me to leave alone. And, what a time-eating, laborious (and expensive addiction) this ritual has been! Nothing simple about it: My quirky preparation of the morning brew involved pre-heating the coffee mug, frothing the soy milk, etc. :o
Something as simple as removing and recycling the percolator has made a HUGE difference in eliminating this habit.

here are some tips for mazimizing space an presentation.
Store items that need cool dark spaces in the oven..like EVOO be sure the power source is really all the way off
Ebay or Craigslist those counter top items that you know you will really never use, like coffee makers and toasters
Take the doors off of a few cabinates and store foods in glass bowls or decorative baskets that have the linen liners
Set shelves in fridge equal distance apart and rotate your founds every other day so that everything moves up until you shop again.

I want to get a stove board, but I have a gas stove with a pilot light. If I blow out the pilot light the gas still comes out. I am afraid that if I put a board over the stove the heat from the pilot light will cause a problem. I might get a marble or corian type piece and have it cut to size and somehow make legs for it, to keep air space between the top of the stove and the board..and then I could put my cutting board on top of that.
I use the stove occasionally for boiling water and simmering herbal teas etc....

I'm awed. These kitchens seem so awesome. I want to get a thing to cover up the burners on my stove (I'm in a rental) so that I can have more counter space.
I have to get rid of the microwave too, but I'd have to tell my social worker (who visits my apartment) the reason I don't have it anymore. Maybe I can put the microwave on top of the stove, lol. XD
As to the FIRST post of pictures, how do they keep all those fruits fresh? Juicing and drying and freezing? I don't know how I could keep that much vegetation fresh. I'm still pondering how long these veggies in my fridge are going to last. :(

What a fabulous thread! Thank you to everyone for the pics and ideas!
Would it be possible for some of the early posts of photos to be re-posted for those of us new to the site?

Oh how I love the kitchen in the first post!!! I was just talking to DH about getting rid of the stove and putting in a rolling butcher block with storage. That makes me want to do it more. I'm so glad to see inside some fridges too (especially the ones with the wire baskets). This makes me want to get our kitchen more functional!
What fruits/veggies does eveyone keep on their counters? Which ones do you buy less ripe and allow to ripen? I ask because I saw a picture with a pineapple on the counter. We just had one and I stuck it in the fridge. I don't know why but I get in this mind set that all my produce needs to go in the fridge and I know it doesn't!
