As most of people doing raw to loose weight but I'm already on raw since last year and not because of loosing weight but because of diabetes.

Since I be on raw I have lost some weight what I not needed so now I would like to know what food would be good to add some extra weight.

Because I have diabetes I cannot take food with too much sugar, so what would you people reccomend me to eat.

Thanks in advance

Nuts and avocados. Any raw food eaten in greater portion will help you gain weight - but you can focus on high calorie foods as well.

Another way to gain weight is to do some strength training and get your muscle mass increased - this should help increase your appetite as well if you need help with that :)

It will happen all by itself if you just let your body decide. I have gained at least 7 lbs since I reached my lowest weight without adding any special foods.

Storm and Jinjee Talifero say that they swear by celery as something that bulks both adults and children up.

Victoria Boutenko in Green for Life says large quantities of dark leafy greens every day (in the form of smoothies) are crucial for putting on weight while raw.

You can count calories at www.nutridiary.com if you like. High calorie raw foods include olive oil, nuts and seeds, avocados, olives, and obviously other oils: coconut oil, cacao butter, tahini, nut butters, etc.

Many raw foodists (apparently) include raw unpasteurised organic butter in their diet to get the calories. You could even include raw unpasteurised cheese (note that some cheeses that are unpasteurised are heated to high temperatures anyway to get the right consistency, notably the harder cheeses). I am not sure if you can have raw dairy when battling diabetes, though. But perhaps you can have these after you've got off your medications and got better (apparently this should take 30-days for type 2).

But on the other hand, according to many you should not include too many fatty foods in your diet because they tend to be acidic. So best check on this somewhere first. Perhaps cure your diabetes first and worry about putting on weight afterwards. But also best to check that you get enough calories per day on the website above...

Hope this helps and best of luck on your journey to health!

Dear Ucat,

I think you are right that I better cure first then look after my weight, I feel I'm doing very good now and I believe I can cure before end of year at least that is my target.

thanks for the good information you have given me I know both Storm and Jinjee I have watched there movie also Victoria Boutenko I have been looked at many times her son is cured from Diabetes.

Hi sport,

I'm curious on how the body just starts putting on weight once the fat cells are detoxed. I hope my body does the same.

Do you worry about calories and do you eat very little/ a lot through the day? Do you get lots of calories from fat or fruit, for example?

I feel that I need to eat less and less per day since raw for 40+ days now, and my weight is lower than in my teenage years (I am 32 years old now). I would love to put on weight as well...

Thanks, Ucat

Whoa, I really think this is one of the biggest mysteries in raw food: how to not become too skinny and emancipated. I'm struggling with this but then again, I haven't been raw for that long yet so the weight might come back. I can't rely on that though.

Tonya Zavasta writes on her website that fasting and eating little slows down your metabolism, which then allows you to put on weight more easily after. She says fast metabolism is the number one cause for aging and can also stop you from gaining weight. (Idea being that fast metabolism does not efficiently utilise nutrients, where as slow metabolism is more thorough.)

Ms. Zavasta also recommends including raw eggs in one's diet for weight gain.
(Check out her website for more information on these)

Another reason for being too thin (and not assimilating nutrients) is parasites. I think everyone should undertake a parasite cleanse of some sort.

David Jubb writes in his book: "Jubbs Cell Rejuvenation" that plant fats (sterolins) have a similar effect on the body as the steroids naturally produced by the body (e.g. DHEA) , which act as sex hormones and help to balance the hormones. He also recommends natural progesterone from wild yam and ginseng for both energy and hormone balance. The sterolins in plants are destroyed by cooking and processing food. Perhaps this is what helps natural weight gain and fat that goes in the 'right places'...?
