Hello,
My name is Contreda. I am a junk food junkie and I want to do something about it. I am satisfied that the Raw Lifestyle is the way to go, but as I found out, this is a drastic change.
I decided to try juice feasting. I got half way through my first day before eating. I had 2 cups of carrot juice and I think the sugar "triggered" something in me. Something that wanted hotdogs.
I bought one case each of carrots, kale, celery, romaine lettuce, and green leaf lettuce. I need recipes. I was so focused on vegetables that I did not even think to get fruit.
I love to eat so I believe juice feasting is a bit too much to ask of me. However I do want to make this change.
I need basic, quick, easy, simple raw food recipes as I only have a blender, a juicer and a whole bunch of vegetables right now.
Help me please. I don't want this produce to go to waste.
I need advice, recipes, encouragement, nuturing, etc.
Thanx,
Contreda

Contreda,
I emailed you back about taking Alissa's Class some time ago, but never heard back from you. I remember that we even spoke on the phone... I really think the Class will benefit you greatly. Perhaps you could revisit that thought. It will help you to go Raw and help you to stay Raw.
So, I'm still here for you and am willing to help you. Feel free to contact me again if you'd like.
Warmly,
Renee

Believe it or not, I was actually about to call you today, it is so amazing that you of all people responded to my post.
If you recall when I first spoke with you, I wanted someone else to prepare the meals for me. I have since come around to preparing the dishes myself. I will call you. Thank you Renee

Not to preach, but before you start ANY of this, you should research all you can. Read about juice fasting and RAW (pros/cons) and plan it accordingly. If you are new to juicing do NOT do a fast yet. First find out what juice recipes you like and get your taste buds accustomed to juice. To go from eating SAD one day to a juice fast the next is not advisable.
Get used to juicing first for awhile. Experiment with different recipes and see what you like, then plan out your juice fast.
It may even be advisable to start eating some RAW for awhile to get acclimated. But try not to just jump in and do a juice fast. Plan it out.
As far as all those veg's you have, you could try freezing them.

eat a big salad twice a day! kale, romaine, carrots... throw it all together. i use a splash of unrefined oil (sunflower or grapeseed), but you can also toss an avocado in the blender with a little water, lemon juice and garlic. There's your drerssing!

The way I understand her original post she is not trying to do a juice fast. She wants to eat Raw. She wants recipes.
Contreda, do you have Alissa's book? There are over 300 recipes in there and they are all fabulous!!!! Trust me, start with Living on Live Food. :D
You might want to invest in a Food Processor also. Walmart have some cheap ones. It's different than a blender. If you decide to take a class, you will see some really neat ways to work your veggies. :)

First, congrats on making the decision to go raw! If you're going from a junk food junkie diet to a 100% raw food diet, your body is most likely going to resist and detox, HARD. I'd suggest a more gradual shift rather than jumping right in with a juice feast. There's tons of 'transitional' foods on the market that really help with cravings and replacements. Things like crackers and cereals and breads and chips. They're a lifesaver for me when I'm craving something junk-foodish.

Thanx to everybody for the advice.............
Just one quick question though. What am I going to do with frozen lettuce, frozen greens, and frozen carrots? Is there a smoothie recipe in there somewhere? I not trying to be funny, I am trying to be open minded. I don't want to bring my old mentality into my new lifestyle.
I actually have been been looking into some raw food recipes and I do see many many recipes that are SADSimilar. I don't want that. I want to learn to eat differently. I want to change my lifestyle entirely not just learn to eat a more healthy type of SAD. I love Mexican foods and I know that if I start eating something that looks like a Cheese Enchilada it won't be long before I end up at Poncho's Buffet in overload status. I want to get away from the way I've been eating entirely. That's why I originally attempted the juice feast.
I do intend to juice these veggies because I spent quite a bit of cash on them, but juice is not all I am taking in at this point. That's why I asked for recipes.

Hi again!
Here is the link to 70 Green Smoothies that you can start with to use your frozen veggies. As a matter of fact, the Smoothie I had this morning I used my frozen Organic blueberries from my co-op.

The best thing you can do right now is to find Alissa's book that you said you have, invest $30 in a food processor, and start making some recipes.
Wishing you much success on your journey!!!

Thanx Renee
Can lettuce and greens be frozen without taking away from the nutritious value of the vegetables?
With the smoothies.......does anything have to be frozen or should I just add ice?

I think this is great advice!
I'm just a few months raw and haven't made any elaborate recipes yet, don't own a dehydrator yet, just keeping things REAL simple with lots of salads, fresh fruits, green smoothies and very simple dishes -- things like nori rolls and lettuce wraps and zuchinni noodles.
Slowly, I'm learning to incorporate things like raw nuts and seeds for recipes.... but for me it's been a very gradual process.
I live in an area with no health food stores, so for me I keep it SUPER SUPER simple with most of my ingredients just from the supermarket and it's been fine : )
Btw you can use yor lettuce and kale in the blender for making green smoothies -- add a few frozen bananas and you're done! (Or not-frozen bananas and just add ice.)
Also, learn to make a massaged kale salad..... I practically LIVED on that for my first month or so, it's super YUMMY!!! There are several videos on how to do this on youtube.
Best of luck on your journey!
