I recently started juicing with the intention of boosting my health and nipping any lurking problems in the bud, while springing me back into healthy RAW eating. I'm on day 5 now of exclusive juicing (no eating) and normally make my juices in the morning, put them in stainless steel bottles and take them to work to keep me throughout the day. For some reason this morning the second juice has retained a lot of the pulp and I didn't realise until I got to work (couldn't strain). The pulp taste mostly of carrot and grape. Will this hamper my progress greatly? Should I try not to use this until I can get home and strain it and just bump up my water intake to keep me full or not worry about it? I was planning to juice for 7 days and possibly extend it depending on how I feel and am coping. I haven't experienced any great feelings of energy or euphoria that I read about but at the same time I haven't experienced any major detox problems either. Does this mean I am not detoxing? I also haven't been to the bathroom since Day 2 other than to pass water :(

I wouldn't worry about, especially since you are on day 5. We tend to over-think things and get to caught up on small issues. In your case I would definitely try to fond out why your juicer is producing pulp. Why type do you have?
When I did a 4 day fast, I NEVER felt either energetic or had any detox symptoms. SO I wouldn't worry about this either. As far as your bathroom issue, I would probably add psyllium husks to your juice to aid in pushing things through. If you do not want to use the husks, their are many detox sites on the net that give great advice on what other things you can do to help bathroom issues.

When I was doing my juice fast and went a few days without BMs, I took Aleesha's advice and it did the trick: she recommended drinking a liter of fresh apple juice.
Give it a try, it really works! (I added some cinnamon and it tasted just like apple pie, YUM......)
Another thing that worked for me during a recent Master Cleanse was having a cup of senna tea before bed.

If your bowel was fairly good at waste disposal before you started juicing then it won't have anything much to get rid of after two days juicing. There is no point adding psyllium husks if you are not eating the pulp when you juice. If you want extra fibre then make smoothies rather than juices. If you are only drinking the pulpless juice then don't expect bowel movements very often. What you don't want to do is remove the fibre from the juice and then add fibre from somewhere else. It's an expensive exercise!

Thanks guys, very happy with your responses. I will just continue with the fast/feast for the full 7 days and then ease back into eating. I love this site - people are ALWAYS willing to answer and offer guidance. Thanks again!! (trying so hard not to over think :))

If making a large amount of juice in a centrifugal juicer it may be necessary to stop midpoint and clean the screen/basket. Grape skins and apple peels tend to clog it up. It may help to juice them last when mixed with other things, to help reduce the excess pulp problem. In other words if you do carrots celery and apples, do apple last and you should have less pulp from the carrot and celery to deal with. I try to watch the pulp chute and if it loads up rather than flinging all the way to the catch bin, or appears to be wetter lookin pulp, I'll stop and clean the screen.
