I cant tell from the picture but they look almost like lychee's. These are usually redder and prickly but maybe its the picture.
What do they look like on the inside? Are they white with a big pit?

Could they be gooseberries? I'm just looking at my produce book here and that's the closest thing to it... but I have no idea.

did a search for rambutan on google and came up with this fruit that looks like your picture...

Longan:

Here is the rambutan which looks...ummm...a little more "different" than the longan:

and here are the lychee:

But they're all in the same family! :D

Wow these look like the little beanuts I got at the market a couple months ago though from reading the description of lychees and the others I am sure it is not. Also yesterday I picked up these fruits from the market that the guy said were kiwis and they taste like them but they look exactly like the original picture posted on this thread. Anyone ever had anything like that before? They were imported from France and at first I thought maybe they were GMO or something but then I remembered europe doesn't usually allow that kind of thing so maybe it's just a different variety?

I just had rambutans today for the first time! Trader Joe's (at least near me) has them for a great price. They are so beautiful and odd looking, almost like the fruit is saying "grrrr, don't eat me!" But I ate it anyways. :p They have such a nice mellow tropical flavor! Can't wait to try lychee's (have had them canned, but not fresh) and logans!

Wow cool! I'm going to put in an order at Orkos and get some of those things to try. Isn't it amazing how many different kinds of fruits and veggies there are out there?

Analeah,

you can order with Orkos as well? Aren't they the best, quite expensive, but so much variety woohoo!
I just placed my order, 11 punds of Medjool Jumbo USA dates, YUMMMM!!
I also ordered the cashew nuts, I hope they taste good, and then maybe I'm going to try to make some cashew nut butter with my champion!!
If you can afford it, their pineapple cayenne is DE-LI-CIOUS!!!

I hope I can hehe I haven't placed the order yet but I emailed them and they said they can ship to Switzerland. I am only going to be here for a few more weeks though so I have to order it soon. Have you ever gotten the sample package from them? Do you know if the cashews they sell are really raw? Pineapple cayenne, that does sound delicious! Is it just a variety of pineapple or something else?

Do you mean you are leaving Switzerland for good?? You are an American, if I'm correct, right?
Anyways, I'm glad for you they ship to Switzerland :)
YES, I orderd their sample package of dates, 16 varities, most of them were so great! But the ones I liked best were the Jumbo USA Medjools, so I ordered a lot! :D
Or did you mean the sample package for new customers (on the last page of their catalogue)? No I didn't orde that one, it's far too expensive I think... it's better to order a few cheaper things, and then when things that you haven't eaten before are in promotion, you can order them... but I do think the sample package is an ideal way to get to know different types of fruits and a good introduction to Orkos...
I'm hoping their cashews are really raw, can you tell by tasting them? I know all the other nuts they sell are raw, so I'm guessing that the cashews will be raw too...
The pineapple cayenne is the one I buy from them, they also have another variety, in french is't called planteur, but I don't know how that one tastes. It is indeed a pineapple, very sweet and refreshing, I have bought two of the cayennes last week, and tomorrow I'm gonna eat one of them, can't wait! (wow, my whole mouth just filled with saliva, lol!!)
