Hi,
So I am interested in starting a fast. I am only going to try it for 24 hours. If all goes great I will try a 3 day fast in the near future. I have some tea I will be drinking and I will be drinking juice and water. What else could I use on a fast? Is there such thing as too little or too much to drink on a fast?
BTW the tea is a fasting tea by a company called yogi. Any help appreciated. Thx

Fresh fruit and veggie juices, water and herbal tea -- sounds perfect!
I never heard of drinking too much of any of those on a fast -- unless the herbal tea is a laxative tea, in which case you probably wouldn't need to drink it at all for just a one day fast.
One drink I really enjoyed during my juice fast was adding fresh lemon juice and cayenne pepper to my water, made it more substantial (but I love cayenne pepper in anything!)
Good luck!

Breaking and prepping for the fast are key too. Break with at least one meal of fruit for each day of the fast. Break a three day fast with at least one day or three meals of easy to digest foods (fruit) then slowly incorporate more solid foods. You would do well to ease into the fast in a like manner, avoiding fats and animal proteins. Purpose to yourself beforehand how long you will fast, prepare activities that will engage your mind and nourish your spirit during the fast, and commit to drinking plenty of water to assist flushing toxins.

to me fasting needs zero thinking , its just time after time going as long as can without eating . bestly as long as can on only water , then when too weak to go further adding juice . time after time working on getting stronger at it til it becomes life time habit and easy . keeping fat off the body and preventing build up of toxic slush in lymph fluids / blood / cells . also strengthening determination / focus . but if i was younger ide probably be so hungry ide be like ' f that ' lol . but at 53 its easy because i just got done eating like a pig first 45 years of my life so constant fasting agenda is called for by body . i now fast at minimum 24 hours on water every monday , if feeling it i push it further . its great to get into the monday fasting mode then see after a few months the fat staying burned off gut , feel lighter in gut / harder / more energized / stronger . anyway heres my fave fasting expert herbert shelton whom over saw 1000's of fasts his most recent body span , he and late great raw foodie norm walker my fave health experts : http://www.soilandhealth.org/02/0201hyglibcat/020127shelton.III/020127.toc.htm
That's some great info michigan. I ran into Herbert Shelton's stuff a long while ago and like what he has to say. I def' agree with fasting sporadically, esp after doing extended fasts. You'll find things will change from when you're a beginner to when you're more advanced. I love juice fasting twice weekly. It just works for me. As a beginner, if you're doing just one day you'll find the day will go by fast.
I also don't think an herbal lax is necessary really, but drink as much juice and water as you want. Drink more when you're hungry to satiate hunger pangs. I always drink at least 1/2 gallon of liquids a day. Some drink more. It depends on you. I find I tend to drink less sometimes as I get tired of going to the bathroom toward the evening. The only way to do it, in order to do longer fasts is to keep trying, even if you break a fast incorrectly or "fall off" as you'll hear a lot.
If you fast for just a day there's no reason really, to be extremely cautious breaking the fast. A day is not very long.
Good luck! :cheer:

The herbal tea I have is non laxative. I just hear of people drinking teas during fasts. I also hear people mention smoothies as well as eating fruit. I thought fasts were strictly liquids?

There are many different kinds of fasts. Water fasts, master cleanse (where you just drink the lemonade drink), fruit and veggie juice fasts, smoothie fasts, liquid-only fasts..... and then some people also go on a fruit only fast or a mono-fruit fast (where you only eat one kind of fruit).... those are just the ones I know about, I'm sure there are more.
I think it depends on what you hope to accopmlish, that determines the type of fast you pick. For my first fast, I did a fruit and veggie juice fast to get rid of some strong cravings I was having for dairy after switching to a vegan diet. I loved it! I got rid of my cravings, had a nice detox, released a bunch of weight -- and as an added bonus was introduced to the raw food lifestyle, which I've adopted as my permanent way of eating.
Right now I'm starting a master cleanse fast to release more extra weight and also to get a handle on my appetite because since going raw I've been eating non-stop!
What were you hoping to accomplish with your fast?

I am not quite sure what I am trying to accomplish with this fast. I guess for detox is the main reason. I just wanna see how my body reacts to not eating for a day too. I'd like to try other fasts too. The master cleanse sounds interesting.
