my mouth is bleeding from eating pineapple

yes my mouth is bleeding right now there is blood all over my pineapple peices no my mouth didn't get cut am i alergic? whats going on here with my favorite fruit!?:eat

Although pineapple is not a citrus fruit, it is very acidic. So this could be the reason. When I eat too much pineapple or oranges my mouth starts to get little cuts in it.

I can't eat pineapple personally, makes me break out into hives and gives me welts in my mouth.

It's also very hard to get really ripe pineapple in the north east. The less ripe ("vine ripened" for lack of a better term) the more acidic, the more acidic the more they hurt. They make me bleed too...... I tend to use them only in smoothies now which is yummy!

yowy. that is an extreme reaction, but I also get an itchy mouth if I eat too much pineapple. And everything tastes like sawdust afterwards. I always thought it was the bromelain, which is a pretty powerful enzyme.

Its most likely from the fibres of the pineapple or the pineapple is not ripe, which is usually the case. It must be super sweet.

I also cannot eat too much pineapple, as the roof of my mouth becomes itchy and irritated. I love pineapple too...but can only tolerate about a slice or two. Well, two is pushing it. Maybe try sipping water between bites? I might try that myself to see if it makes a difference.

If you cut a pineapple into small pieces or thin slices and soak them in salty water for some time, they will be less biting and also taste sweeter.
