Those bean sprouts that you see always at the store, the ones that are big fat and white and taste pretty much like water. What kind of bean are they made from, are they fresh (assuming sprouts are alive and usually always growing?)

They're mung bean sprouts and yes, they're live. I've really been getting into them lately after disregarding them as not nutritious because of my strange and untrue bias against white food :P

They would be the most superior land food sold at the store by far. The only way to get a more superior land food would be to harvest grass directly or grow tray based microgreens yourself.
The beans could be mung beans, but definitely a bean sprout of some type. Try giving them some indirect sunlight for half a day inside a clear plastic container.
