Hi all, Let me start by saying I got Alissa's book and DVD 2 days ago and WOW I am so inspired ! The DVD is awesome ! and I have not parted with the book since I opened the box.

Now to the sick part , I was so inspired and excited about having something other then salad for dinner I ran right out to stores ( yes stores in my area I have to go to at least 2 sometimes 3 to get organic produce & raw nuts )
I came home and quickly whipped up some fettucine alfredo, soo easy !
but, when I opened the Braggs I had just purchased the smell almost knocked me over and made me a bit sick to my stomach, I have never used it before but bought it becasue I wanted to follow the recipe exactly.
ok, so I ate and ate...yum! about 30 minutes after eatting I got so sick. Very hot, almost dizzy and spent the next to hours in the bathroom either sitting on or leaning over the toilet. I almost passed out on the bathroom floor and my husband took me up to bed, I don't even remember that !!

I got up this morning very thirsty and drank just water and only spent a short time in the bathroom. I listened to my body and ate only fruit that appealed to me ( I made Alissa's banana, Mango strawberry pudding and feel so much better )and water today. Still not 100%.

What do you think happened ??? I am wondering if I had a reaction to the nuts ? or the Braggs ? I eat almonds a lot, have never eaten pine nuts and can count on one hand how many times I have eaten Macadamias and Cashews ( I don't like them, but they were awesome in the alfredo sauce).

Thanks for ideas and thank you Alissa for that awesome book and DVD.

It could have been the Bragg's. Bragg's has been discovered to have a naturally occuring MSG in it. Alissa no longer promotes Bragg's but rather Nama Shoyu, but at the time of her writtings, the MSG-thing hadn't been brought to light (or at least not to HER attention). So, from now on, where you see Bragg's, use Nama Shoyu instead and she (Alissa) sells this on her website, but some areas may carry it locally as well.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thank You for your response. I am sure it was the Braggs then . I have had reactions to chinese food with MSG and other foods that contain MSG my whole life  !!

Thank you again and in the garbage goes the Braggs !

Hi,

Well I know I can't handle the Braggs but made a recipe with macadamias and pine nuts last night and was so sick again ! :( I almost had to call into work.
I feel like I am still recovering from my reaction a few days ago and tonight I am just a mess. So I obviously can not eat macadamias & Pine Nuts anymore !

I have had no problems wirh almonds or walnuts, are Macadamias & Pine Nuts that much different ?

What could I use as a replacement in recipes like the fetucine alfredo ? or cheesecake ?

Thanks

It could just be that your body is not handling food combinations well. When you say almonds and walnuts don't make you sick, were they combined with other stuff as you combined the mac nuts and pine nuts?

But you could sub other nuts for those...the flavor or texture might not be the same...but you have to do what works for you and that would be to either substitute or avoid certain combinations altogether.

Also, I wouldn't write these nuts totally off...maybe you can eat them by themselves, soaked first or "properly" combined like maybe on top of a salad or something. But give your system a rest from them for now and later on, try to eat just a couple to a few alone, with nothing else, and see what happens.

One other question...how MUCH of the recipe did you eat in one sitting? I know that when I first tried the fettuchini recipe, I was fine until I gorged myself by having a second (or was it a third) helping of it! Do you think you may have overdone it and eaten too much or was it just a little bit? Some recipes are so rich that you really can't eat a lot in one sitting, like the torte or the alfredo!
