I want to extend a big THANKS :D to everyone for all the helpful posts about what the **** to feed our kids! We are very new to this and working hard to get all raw. I have attached a few breakfast pics for inspiration. The sippy cup contains Green Lemonade from Natalia Roses' book (romain, kale, lemon apple ginger). My son really does like it - though my daughter wont touch it.
My two children (15mo. & 5) are very intollerant to what I narrowed down to as grains. My daughter is unable to "pass" anything from the cereal/grain family. Her colon get very backed up, it just acts like a plug.
Upon her first exam for this issue 3.5 years ago an xray showed her colon to measure 5 1/2 inches ACORSS :( ! And this was on a very "good" diet. As a family we rarely ate processed foods or dairy. Mostly fruits, veg, soy & animal protein; however she would eat grain occationally.
The doctors have been monumentally unhelpful. Even after explaining I had the same issues at her age and colon cancer runs in our family. I was told to give her a stool softener and go home...
So after paring her diet down to just fruit, veg & animal protein for the past two years - basically a low carb diet I found she was still having issues! I asked myself what more could I take away?! I felt I was doing the right thing and felt terrible that she always complained about eating her meat - as she does not like it. But I felt at the time where else is she going to get her protein?
Like everyone else I'm sure my houise is bulging at the seams with health & nutrition books. I was looking for another way to help my daughter and to hopefully not to succumb to my familys strong genetic habit toward Alzheimers. This led me to Raw foods and the rest is history! For the first time my daughter does not complain about being hungry after breakfast and her bowels are getting better and I am sure they will improove more when I can get her to eat veggies!
Enjoys the pictures - BTW the banana honey almond butter one is a suggestion from one of the previous treads - thanks!
Also my daughter favorite movie is - you guessed it - Alissa's DVD - move over Disney!
And thanks to truthSeeker directions (from another thread) on how to resize pictures!! :p
Cheers!

How GREAT you must feel seeing such wonderful improvement in your little one. Your children are beautiful!
I did see a recipe for a raw version of sausage....somewhere, I'll have to dig deep to remember. I thought it was in Alissa's book , but I can't find it. If I do I'll post it here for you, provided that is what a "banger" is :D
A big pat on the back to you eachpeachpearplum !!!

How fun. My kids eat fruit salad almost every morning. (19 month old twins)
Right now their favorite fruit is an apple. They each eat about 3 a day. They eat them whole and I can not cut them up or they won't touch them. They run to the fridge whenever they want an apple. I love it.

Yah, I have breakfast down - provided I present the fruit in the correct confiuration, cut up/not cut up/ mashed or whatever the current demand is.
I am still really stumped on lunches. My son (15mo.) will try veggies but the textures are hard with only front teeth so he spits it out, more from not being able to chew it well enough than from not liking it. Any suggestions?
Thanks

It's been a long time (14 years) since I 've had a 15 month onld in the house, however, for lunches, you could make nut butters, marinated veggies (to soften) and of course all kinds of fruit. Also, keep making green smoothies for each meal! Also, since I make nut seed milk almost daily, I use the pulp from the milk to make patties. I throw the pulp in the food processor, add any kind of green I have in the refrigerator, carrot, celery, garlic, onion, sometimes tomato, add seasonings of choice (cumin is great). Process till well combined. There are many recipes out there for nut patties. I just replace the nuts with the nut/seed pulp from the nut milk I make. I don't measure, I just follow my instincts. Most times I dehydrate, till it forms like a crust on the outside, but still soft in the middle. I love them and my two boys love them. They are soft enough for a toddler with only a couple of teeth to chew.
Blessings.

For lunch my babies like avocado, tomato, smoothies, fruit, sprouted wheat bread, raw almond butter, cucumber. Now, at 19 months, they are eating carrot sticks. And if they see my eat a salad, they want whatever I'm eating.
Hope this helps a little.

My recent experience with a 15-month old is -- avocado, mushrooms (whole rather than sliced -- but, as you know, that preference can change daily), sprouts (eaten individually!), cherry tomatoes, any salad the adult is eating, and smoothies -- great way to slip in the greens.
I admire how you have made such a huge change in becoming vegan -- the benefit to your daughter is so dramatic, considering her early colon problems, and I'm sure your son will grow up strong, healthy, and following what his body says.
I love how little raw ones are so in tune with what they need -- some days all fruit, perhaps, others, a mixture of veggies and fruit and maybe some nuts. We're the ones who are held captive by the tyranny of thinking we must balance our "protein" intake, for instance, or add a certain amount of greens perhaps, rather than trusting the innate intelligence of our bodies. If we do get to the point of trusting, though, I believe that we can be well-nourished without a lot of fuss and thought.
Oops ... sorry I got into musing here ... and bit off topic ...

Thanks RawTruth,
I had not thought of mushrooms; my son loves guacamole and I have my first batch of mung bean sprouts growing at the moment so I shall try those too.
I am thinking of planting a small veg garden in the spring - vine ripe grape tomatoes & basil for the kids, yum!
Thanks Again

Eachpeach, your children are gorgeous and so bright eyed. You're doing a fabulous job.
Rawtruth, You're so right about the little ones knowing what they need. When my son was 6 months old and crawling everywhere, we had a huge organic garden. In the summer he'd crawl through the garden and pluck cherry tomatoes off the vine, then he'd go for the sugar snap peas, lettuce and anything else he could pluck off the vine, or pull up. All his other food was prepared in the Vitamix. He's 31 now, an athlete, and still prefers a huge green salad followed by fresh fruit as the mainstay of his diet.
I was a great eater when I was little. I didn't eat much but I knew what to eat. Being force fed by the time I was 4 started me on years of being a compulsive eater.
Let's give the kids the benefit of the doubt and trust that when their options are all healthy ones, that they'll take what they need. I loved the part in Boutenko's book where she talked about her kids craving exactly what they needed to heal and take care of themselves.
