Hello,

I don't really post much... at all, really. But I do come to this board for information and recipes, and am hoping someone can help me out. I have been wanting to do a juice fast, but I read that you shouldn't if you have hypothyroidism, which I do. Does this mean I can't/shouldn't do any kind of fast? Or just not a water-only fast?

Thanks!

I have no idea. I know that a friend of mine had huge problems with her thyroid. Ended up having 1/2 removed. She fasted with me (juice fasted) a few times but she found that her hunger was too huge. I felt the issue was more that she wasn't drinking enough juice and working a very physical job. But we never really investigated it further. (This was about 3.5 years ago).

I would talk to your doctor and do some searching via google... knowledge is power and IMO you need heaps of it before fasting with your 'condition'.

that said... perhaps a green smoothie feast would be better for ya? (just a thought... no knowledge behind this suggestion)

My thyroid has bounced from hypo to hyper over the last few years. During this time (last summer), I did a 28 day juice feast. I felt wonderful. I did however drink a ton of juice. Okay, maybe not a ton but about 5 qts. a day. I still continue to heal my thryoid with diet, lifestyle, and exercise. I do take natural suppliments for my thyroid like kelp. But I agree with Aleesha... a green smoothie feast would be wonderful and very healing.

Thank you :-) I am still going to look for more information, but I can definitely get on board with the green smoothies!
