Hi,

At whole foods they have been selling 2 young coconuts for $3. This is a good deal. They used to be like $2 - $2.50 each and then for several months they were $3 each everywhere. I stopped buying them as often. At whole foods they are selling cases of 9 coconuts for $12. I am tempted to buy it but want to know how long will it store for. If I have to eat them up in like a week then that is too fast for me. Anyone here buy by the case?? Think $12 for 9 coconuts is a good deal? What is the best way to preserve them?? Thank You

I got a case of 9 for $9.50 at the international farmers market on 9/8/11. I keep them in the refrigerator. I have 2 left. They are still good. I'm sure how long they last, but they still taste fresh. I will probably finish the last 2 today and tomorrow.

Nice, I need to check ours! I would think in the fridge, they would be fine. I would eat one every day if I could afford it and at that price, it's pretty affordable, I think. :)

I will no longer buy young coconuts shipped from overseas. They are dipped in fungicide and then are sometimes two months old before you get them. They may even possibly be irradiated. If you got them fresh/undipped, they would only last a couple weeks. I suggest you go to exoticsuperfoods and read their explanation. They sell truly raw organic quick-frozen juice and meat. I just ordered some more. My first batch arrived perfectly frozen. I have no affiliation with the company, but I swear, I may offer to invest in them! I believe in what they're doing.

Thanks Mary Kay - just emailed them for shipping to TX. I'm tired of playing with coconuts and would probably use more if someone else got the meat out for me!! LOL I'm lazy I know but also concerned about the formaldehyde - which they say does not go into the coconut...but.

I agree about the dip/formaldehyde, but I haven't got into coconuts. Still not convinced that the high sat fats are so good. Just taking my time on this one.

luvtherawlife,

I have candida and I am believing that coconut contains all the magic substances to kill candida. I have rosacea and could never figure it out--what foods triggered it...Even while doing all-juice fasts, it would come and go. Then I finally figured it out. For me, it's the sugar.

And through all this, even when I combined coconut with something sweet --think raw macaroons --I also make an awesome fruit leather with coconut in it ---anyway, even if it was combined with sugar (I don't mean actual processed sugar ---the fruit kind )--- the next day after ingesting it, my face would be all the clearer.

So, I should be a good experiment for you! I'm about to embark on a coconut oil cleanse!

Over the summer, my cholesterol ranged from 143 - 176, and I really don't worry about the cholesterol- thing. I started a thread on my coconut oil cleanse..and will keep a sort of diary there. Go check it out in a week or two....

Snoops,

There was a woman on Kevin Gianni's show that showed how she did various experiments: one involved dipping a young coconut into orange food colored water. She only dipped it for a second, and upon opening the interior, the orange had permeated it!

Now my dilemma is, when doing the coconut oil cleanse, am I going to ingest any of the meat? I'll def not be doing the water (I ordered both). Apparently when doing the cleanse, you don't want any sugar/carbs.....and the meat contains a little....hence my dilemma.

Off-topic, but I just wanted to point out that you don't need "magic substances" to kill candida. Take care of your immune system and it will take care of you. I had really bad candida and I cured myself by not eating any fatty foods for about three weeks. (The symptoms went away in a few days, actually.) Now I eat fatty foods when I want them and have no candida issues.

Dent de Lion,

That's what I thought, but it did not work for me. I did 11 weeks of raw juice fasting ===nothing but raw juice, and afterward, I still had candida, and I still had microscopic parasites. My slight hypothyroid issues went away though!

Besides greens, cukes etc, my juices did contain some apple, beets, carrots and tomatoes, but they were not overly sweet, but were slightly sweet. And like I said, all through that fast, my rosacea would come and go....and so would my slight vertigo....

So for me, I'm thinking I need to kill those buggers. And also, what I just read, is that coconut oil has the potential to kill the herpes virus. I have recurrent shingles, (very minor, nevertheless...) and the virus hides deep in your spinal cord. I'm not sure if even the coconut cleanse can do it, but I'm gonna give it a try!

Frankly though, I've stalled in my preparation for the cleanse and was planning on postponing it. There's an upcoming potluck I really want to attend, that was supposed to be tomorrow, but is moved until next week due to weather.....Decisions, decisions....I've barely been ingesting enough coconut, and even ate some raw chocolate nutballs, after which my face looks horrible!
