Hi Aleesha, could you please alter the board settings so that users are not signed out so rapidly?

For those of us who tend to write longer posts, it's infuriating to finish a detailed reply, that has taken time and effort to complete, only to find that when we go to post it, the forum has kicked us out and we have to log in again, often at very high risk of losing the contents of the post, in the process. I'm more fortunate than many in this regard since I've learned over the years to always 'CTRL-A, CTRL-C' the contents of a post before hitting the 'Send/Post' button, but every once in a while even I get ahead of myself and neglect to do this, with exasperating consequences.

A perfect example is Sunshine_1's post (#72) in the following thread:

Many thanks for looking into this.

you should be able to set that yourself. I am never logged out!

I also am never logged out, but I don't think that I have ever altered any setting ... perhaps it is your internet or security settings for your browser?

I second the notion. I just read a lengthy post and went to respond and was logged out. This has happened time and time again.

when you log in do you click "remember me"? Maybe that makes a difference?

Yeah, I always click remember me when logging in. Funny thing is, this doesn't happen on other furums I've been on. Well, not for at least a couple of hours anyway. On here = maybe 10 to 15 minutes is all I get for being logged in. I left to make a smoothie just now (10 mins) and had to log back in. Soooo frustrating.

which browser are you on?

I'm using Safari 4.1.3

I'm using chrome.

It could be your security settings I suppose. Are yours set high when it comes to cookies?

I'm using Firefox. No issues here.

That is a little weird, I admit, but I'm evidently not the only one experiencing this issue.

My Safari browser is set to allow all cookies of sites I visit (though not for third party sites), and remains happily signed in for any other board I visit, plus my e-mail account etc. It's only RFT that I have to repeatedly log into after a few minutes. If no RFT cookie was being accepted by my browser, then it wouldn't even keep me logged in for a few moments, let alone a few minutes. Clearly something is occurring, and it's apparently relating to a time-specific log-out process...

What say you, Bonzer..?

It's certainly very odd.

at least we seem to have discovered that it is not the forum itself and it is not a browser issue!

Which version are you using? As I said, mine is 4.1.3 (4533.19.4), running on PPC G4, OSX 10.4.11

I suspect this is an interaction between the browser and the forum software (vBulletin® (http://www.vbulletin.com/) Version 4.1.4 )

Digging around on a quick Google search, I came across this, which is interesting (read post # 7):

...but please note that as I type this message here, I look at my URL address bar and it DOES say www.rawfoodtalk.com....
