This is the problem I have with avocados. When I'm fixing something to eat for myself, I feel like a whole avocado is just way too much for one meal. So I"ll cut the avocado in half and just eat half of it. But, so far I have not found anyway to save the other half. You can even put it in a zip lock bag and get all of the air out of it and put it in the fridge, but by the next day the avocado will still be ruined. They just don't keep. So everytime I have avocado I have to throw half of it away. Does anybody have a solution for this?

option one - look for the smaller avos. They are often cheaper too and they have much smaller stones so are often better value and you can eat a whole one.
option two - use the other half to make a dip an add lots of lemon juice to help prevent the avo oxidising.
option three - find someone to share with
option four - put in the freezer and use in smoothies

When I cut my avocado in half I keep the stone in the half I am NOT eating. I brush a little lemon juice on it, put it in a baggie and it keeps well until the next day in fridge.

The pit is the key! Make sure that you put the pit into the part that you're not eating and it should last a few days in the fridge. (After a day or so you might find some slight discoloration on the part exposed to the air, but it is superficial and you can just cut off a sliver and use the rest of it.)
If you are making guacamole ahead of time be sure to put the pits in the bowl or else it will go brown before you serve.

i cut in half - remove seed - place half im not eating face down on plate to keep air from it
this method works for me say for 12 to 18 hours before discoloration
im not saying its best method as ive not really tried any other way ,
im just saying its better than leaving open face up as that way it discolors very fast

keep the pit in the half you are not eating, brush with lemon juice and wrap tightly with saran wrap.. mold the saran wrap around the seed so it makes complete contact with the exposed part of the avocado. That works for me every time.
