Hello all!!
I was wondering if I could get some of yall's input on what you eat on a daily basis that is simple, not expensive, and satisfying. I've been reading on what people eat and I do find that eating a piece of fruit for breakfast not being that satisfying...I think I would be ravenously hungry with just a piece of fruit. I like salads but I do get a little bored of them all the time. Does anyone make dishes days in advance? When I went on the RAW diet during the summer (which was amazing, though I'm on a SAD right now because school is my life) I felt and looked great, but I was making a lot of those gourmet recipes and it took a long time and got expensive. What would be some good ideas for meals for someone with not a lot of time to prepare things and not too much money (I can spend some on some key items, but not on everything).
Thanks!

Breakfast can't be 'a piece of fruit'. You'll STARVE. Have as much fruit as you want. In the beginning you will eat more than you will probably end up eating long term. As for the gourmet things - yes they can be expensive if you do it all the time. On the other hand, the longer you are raw, the simpler you will probably want to eat.
One of my favorite meals is the massaged kale and avocado salad. I found it very satisfying, especially at the beginning. I would also make a raw lasagna and eat it for several days. It keeps fairly well and is very satisfying. Most gourmet things will make more than one serving so you can eat at least for a couple days.
Since you have some experience with gourmet raw - set aside a time for prepping your ingredients -that helps a lot when you go to put something together. If you have a dehydrator, do several things at one time. If you find some fruit on sale, dry the extra for snacks.
Try some of the soups - they go together very quickly in a blender. I use a bullet type blender in my motorhome in the summer and even that makes good soup. If you have a power blender, like a vitamix - then it's all the better. My favorite is corn chowder. Cheap and easy. LOTS of options that don't cost a lot.

Some of my favorite things are raw mac and cheese which doesn't take too long... Or spaghetti! :) In order to not starve I often snack on dried fruit and nuts but they can be expensive but I think they are worth it...!

totally agree.
Just eat raw foods. As many as you want, as much as you want and as varied as you can find. That will be enough to keep it satisfying

I LOVE eating fruit for breakfast. I often make a huge bowl of fruit salad with apples, pineapple, cherries, and other fruit (sometimes some soaked raisins) and I keep it in the fridge and just dish out how much I want each morning until it is gone. To keep the apples from turning brown you can mix them with some lemon juice (but not to much) or you can sprinkle them wit salt (like 1/4 a tsp) and mix it on them well with your hands.
Also, if you have time in the morning a fruit smoothie can really fill you up. Mine are typically
1 - Frozen Banana
1/2 Cup - Frozen Mango
1 Cup - Baby Spinach
1 TBS - Hemp Seeds
1 TBS - Ground Flax
and sometimes 1/2 cup water depending on the consistancy I want
Aslo, I have mentioned it on the board before (I think a lot of people make this)
Raw Crustless Apple Turnover
Apple - diced and salted
cinamon dusted on apples
1/4 cup raisins soaked for 1 hour
1/4 cup sunflower seeds or young sunflower seed sprouts
Optional: 1 tsp raw honey or 1 tsp agave (I don't use either)
i love the turnover!!
It also may help to get rid of the idea of "breakfast food". EAT BREAKFAST, but don't be affraid to have a large salad, a couple handfulls of nuts or something like that. Also, when on a raw food diet, I find it imperative to snack throughout the day when I get hungry. I usually carry some fruit with me or some seeds that I can snack on throughout the day.
I hope that helped!

sure you can make food in advance. A filling dish for breakfast try soaking raw oats in almond milk overnight with grated apple, raisins, nuts, cinnamon, etc. - very filling for breakfast.

I would be staving if I only ate one piece of fruit for breakfast! Here are a few examples of how I eat:
Breakfast: 5 bananas
Lunch: 1/2- 1 lb. deglet noor dates
Dinner: HUGE massaged kale salad with avocado, tomato, red pepper, etc.
Breakfast: 2 lbs. grapes
Lunch: smoothie made with 5 bananas and 1 lb. strawberries
Dinner: HUGE bowl of miso soup with zucchini or kelp noodles, nori or wakame, tomato, avocado, etc.
Breakfast: 2-4 lbs. peaches
Lunch: 1/2-1 lb. medjool dates
Dinner: Wakame and daikon noodles with creamy tahini sauce
I spend maybe $12 per day on food.
