I am really wanting to get the Vitamix. I saw on the Vitamix website that there is one called "Reconditioned with 64 oz container", it has the 100 page cookbook, the tamper, Getting started book and CD. They are selling it for $359.00 with a 5 year warranty. Usually they sell them with a seven year warranty. What do you think? New one or reconditioned one? The new ones are $449.

True true, thanks!!!! I didn't know BBB sold them, I will try them. Gosh, $300 is way more manageable. Our Costco doesn't have them.

If you can find one on sale that's new - that's great. I bought a refurbished Vitamix a year and a half ago and I use it a lot. Almost every day. My room-mate also uses it. I bought refurbished because I couldn't afford a new one and they let me purchase it in installments. I haven't had any problems with it and saving the extra $100.00 was essential to me. When I called Vitamix to make the purchase they told me that refurbished doesn't necessarily mean that the machine had been used and returned. There could be a slight imperfection in the machine, like a tiny scratch, etc., so it couldn't be sold as new at full-price. I have bought a lot of refurbished appliances actually. I would also recommend checking out QVC. They have great sales on the Vitamix. One of my former room-mates actually bought one from QVC earlier this year. Good luck.

The BBB link is for a 2 speed vitamix. Just be sure you are comparing the same models. I'd do variable speed, but then again, that's what I'm used to.

as far as i know the cheapest two speed model has the same motor as the next several higher in price range , the more expensive ones just have more speeds and in some cases an extra jar i think . and to me all i need is two speeds , actually just one , high , as at high it'll just blend something quicker then it would have at low with the resulting creation exact same . thusly ive no need for extra speeds . and more complicated controls are just more things that can break

No need to debate types of vitamix and needs. Those are personal... I just pointed out the obvious - compare apples to apples - when you are not really familiar with the product, it's easy to 'assume' one is the same as the other.

Just got a 20% coupon in my email, so did a quick search for vitamix. The 2 speed is 379 and the Professional is 499. each would be less 20%. Good deals, especially on the 2 speed. Cheaper than your refurb.

I personally find the variable speed very important. It makes it much more than a blender and allows you to control things better. I'd rather get the refurbished one of a model I like, than new of one I really don't.

The $379 refurbished model gives a seven year warranty, plus it has the better BPA-free 64 oz. container: https://secure.vitamix.com/Vitamix-Special-Deals.aspx?COUPON=06-003694

Code 06-003694 for free shipping if you don't have one already. :)

That's what I'm sayin....and I haven't had any problems whatsoever with my refurbed machine. And I love the variable speed function.

If I may divert the subject just a little bit...What does the variable speed do? I have a Vitamix 5200 with variable speed. I have never found out what functions the variable speed serves.

Hi Joyce. It allows you to first of all slowly build up speed which is suppose to be the healthier way to blend (less oxidation). When you make recipes with little or know liquid, it allows control over blending. Same when you want a thicker consistency. It also allows you to chop or grind things more easily. Many different uses. Just low and high would never work for me, especially since I rarely keep it at high for more than a 30 sec or a minute or two. This doesn't mean you can't find a way to make it work if necessary. But it's just the harder way and often won't give the best results.

ETA: Forgot to mention the only way I can make a successful soft service ice cream is with the variable switch.

went to bedbathbeyond today . they had both these vitamix in store .
same exact machines with 2HP MAX / 11.5 WATT motors . same pitchers .
only thing different is speed dial in middle of the more expensive one ,
and the more expesive one has 7 year warranty and cheaper one 5 year .
additionally my local store stocks the omega vert juicer at $380 , quite a heavy
duty base / motor . thing must weigh 15lbs . for sure a quality machine
EDIT : the 380 for vert is before 20% off coupon in case anyones wondering .
recently i saw the juicer authority john kohler LOVE the omega vert at youtube .
he also like the horizontal omega type 8005/6/etc series . but says verts better for
soft fruits

Dimond, will you please explain how the variable speed work with blending ingredients with little liquid (take Green smoothie for an example)? And how does the variable speed result in thicker consistency?

i bought a vitamix 5200 refurbished last november and haven't had no issues and been using it daily. It came with a 7 year warranty. My parents, brother all got the refurbished as well. I purchased directly from vitamix. No regrets!

https://secure.vitamix.com/reconditioned-vitamix-machine-64oz.aspx $379 with 7 year warranty and use the free shipping code. That comes with the recipe book and cd and everything your saying. Its the multiple speed one. You can use this code 06-005220 for free shipping. I called my order in so if i ever have issues my name is in there system.
