Hi,

I have been eating raw for a little over a week. A few days ago I noticed some light stomach pain. I was eating raisins and I thought it was the sugar. When I eat sugar on an empty stomach I sometimes get pain. The thing is since then the pain has gotten worse. Every time I eat or drink I feel like the food is chewing through my stomach. I have been doubled over in pain. It feel like the food is making a hole in my stomach.

I looked up my symptoms on the net and it seems like I may have an ulcer and everything I have read says raw food are bad for an ulcer.

Has anyone had this problem and over came it or has any suggestion for me. Thanks in advance.

I really would hate to have to not eat raw.

I haven't had that problem in a long time. When I was about 18-19 (I'm now 22) I went to the doctor with sever stomach pain that left me doubled over in pain. The doctor said that I had the beginning of an ulcer. I didn't do anything about it other than cut out some ... wait, I didn't do anything at all.

I'm not suggesting that you don't do anything, but if you think you might have an ulcer you need to go to the doctor. If I were you, I wouldn't tell them what your diet is like. I hate to say it, but if you tell them what your diet is then they might say that is the cause without ever considering anything else.

What was your diet like before going raw? Were you veg*n? Did you eat SAD? Your body could just be detoxing ...

What are you eating now? Please give a list of everything (EVERYTHING) you eat in a day and maybe we can help a little more.

It may be a reaction to the extra fiber if you have changed your diet drastically.

First, I think you should go to the doctor to make sure you do not have a serious health issue developing.

Baring a health issue, how much water are you drinking? Try increasing your daily water intake and see if that helps.

Yeah sport... that's what I was thinking when I asked about her water intake. You really have to drink enough water because of all the extra fiber.

I experienced this when I was eating lots of fruit - especially melon, and also when consuming bee pollen (both sensitivities occurred in parallel, during the same few months).

I suspect it was an inflammatory reaction in the stomach (pollen is a common irritant of the human immune system, though it does have it's place in certain therapies).

I wonder if the high levels of enzymes in fruit may have led to a reduction in the mucosa of my stomach, thus making my stomach tissues more sensitive to certain foods, but this is only a hypothesis on my part.

Just wondering how you are doing now? Has it gotten better? I think I'm having the same problem, burning/hurting in stomach. I read that Manuka honey is good for this. I've got to get some today, maybe Whole Foods has it.

Hi Garden Granny,

Actually, NO. It got worse. I Even went to a naturlist doctor, I also went to a "normal" Doctor, they both said the same things basicly. The normal doctor wanted me to take meds. and the naturlist tried herbs and other natural foods. in the end he advised me NOT to eat 100% raw. We tried several things, NONE of them worked. In fact the longer I went raw the worse I felt. I spent WEEKS in Severe pain.

I started feeling a bit better recently and THOUGHT MAYBE I could go HIGH RAW. NOPE, day one I was in pain.

I an content with just being a vegan. I eat the same foods just cooked

Do you react to fruit or is it just to raw veg. Have you tried a day of only soft fruit.

Its both. I can eat maybe one or 2 pieces of fruit and that its for the day or my stomach acts up. I can eat ome serving of raw veggies a day and thats it. If I drink juice I cant have any raw solid foods. BUT I can eat tons of cooked veggies and have no problem at all.
