A friend of mine has chronic gastritis. She can't eat raw salads or juices. She wants to try a raw diet, but how would that be possible?

I would ask, who SAYS she can't eat raw salads or juices. Conventional doctors. Oh yeah, I trust them. (eyeroll) A juice fast for gastritis would be very very healing.

When You get an answer to this let me know. Everytime I drink Juice my stomach feels like its on fire. I curl up into a ball from the pain. So I dont think juice is healing my stomach. i NEVER had this problem before I started drinking and eating raw. I am searching for a solution. I hope I find it SOONNNNN

katchmoleen it's not doctors that say this, when she eats a salad she suffers. I think a raw diet should be beneficial for everyone one no matter what, so I'm puzzled by this. There must be something she can do.
Jayla I hope you find the solution to your problem really soon!

Thanks Lucy76,
I found out I can eat raw IF I eat yogurt 2x a day. It coats my stomach and allows me to eat salads and drink fresh juice without all the pain I had before. Maybe your friend can try this. So far it has done wonders for me. So, what I have to eat a little cooked food and yeah its not vegan but I feel being 95% raw is better than nothing at all.

but I don't suppose it is 95% raw. What you list sounds greater than 5%. I'd be interested to know how you do your sums.

Fruits is so easy to digest. I would research in depth and perhaps ask the question to dr. Morse (morsend is his youtube channel).

HOW could it possibly be more than 5% of my diet. One small yogart is 4 oz. I eat that twice a day for a total of 8 oz a day. I drink maybe 40 oz of juice 3x if not more a day. 2 smoothies a day both 16 oz each. Two HUGE salads a day, I snack on apples at least 4, dates maybe 10 and almonds maybe all day. I also may eat other food it depends on what I feel I need. My salads include buit are not limited to 3 cupslettuce, 2 tomatoes, 1cucumbers, mushrroms, peppers, alvacado sometimes, nuts, raisins, carrots, somtimes other greens...........it just depends..but its not small salad

Raw mom,
Thanks for the advice.
I am not saying what I do will work for others. I am just sharing what works or me. YES, for MOST people eating raw is very easy to digest but for some, Myself included, it is not. I love eating this way this is the only reason I am still trying to continue to do this even with the pain I am in. The yogart has been the only thing that has helped. I NEVER had this problem before I started eating raw. Infact I had a complete check up and there was nothing wrong with my stomach. Now, I am a mess. If I coat my stomach 2x a day I can drink and eat with out much problem. I still feel a bit of pain but I am not doubled over.
I have been reading about my problem since it started I even asked my best friend an OBGYN, and she also said raw food was hard for some people to deal with. She is the one that suggested the yogurt and supported my choice to try to stick with the raw and not go back to eating cooked food. I feel this is my best option. I do not want sugery and I dont want to take meds right now. I want to try to heal myself naturally. Its just hard when they thing you want to help heal you is what is causeing the problem in the first place.
If all this fails I will look into something else.

If you worked it out in terms of calories then I think it could be more. Do you eat 4000 calories a day?

JEE WHIZ, are you seriously going to debate if this is 90- 95 or even 50 % of my food intake. I was not talking caloric intake I was speaking volume. I do nto count calories and have no idea nor do I care about the calories I take in. MY POINT was most of my food is raw. I eat 2 things all day that are non raw. I feel it is no big deal when I eat so many other raw food items. Calories NEVER even crossed my mine.
I think I am going to leave this site too many pety things. I will not post again. I will go to another board .

I am sorry that you took her comment so harshly. I have been on this board for quite a while (I stalked it for a long time before joining) and I can say that MT rarely (if ever) says anything to intentionally upset people. I am sure she had the best interest at heart and she really did just answer your question. When people measure raw % they generally do it by calorie intake, I got the feeling that she just wanted to know how you figured it out.

I'm thinking it's more the probiotics than "coating the stomach".... that's assisting. I'd give that a shot if it were an issue of mine. 4 oz. of anything is not going to "coat the stomach" enough to take care of all the food Jayla is claiming to eat yet, the probiotics certainly could be a major factor. Love to hear from others who've personally researched this.

Jayla please don't leave. This is a great forum with lots of information, and you can contribute to that. I'm especially interested in how this diet works for you. I think it's great that you're eating so much raw food, even if it's less than 95%. It's certainly better than nothing. Just a suggestion, have you thought about taking probiotics? I think that's why the yogurt is helping you. Maybe you if you take probiotics for a while you won't need to eat the yogurt.

I don't have gastris, but IBS, with constant gas issue.I could not eat anything but white rice a small amounts of veggies. Nothing raw. I also have fructose malabsorption, so fruit was out as this caused more gas and bloating. However, this is what I have done. I went on the SCDdiet 7 months ago, to kill off the bacteria overgrowth. This is a diet, that eliminates all starches and sugars, but high in fish, meat, etc.
After 7 months, I couldn't do it anymore, as the fish was just getting to me. My goal has been to have a raw food diet. So about two weeks ago, I decided to bite the bullet and do a long term juice fast. I found a digestive enzmye that was hypo-allergenic. Investigated the juice feasting protocol, and took the plunge. I started out drinking two lbs of greens (lettuce) and two lbs of celery. plus one to two coconut waters per day. I couldn't tolerate fruit yet. I still had a lot of gas, so someone suggested that I add ginger to the juice. This was the best thing I did. The gas immediately settled down. So now on day 15, I still drink the same greens, but have added an apple and have grapefruit juice. I also added hemp oil to my juice. I also started MSM which is an amazing supplement. I plan on juicing until my issues are resolved. I drink about 3-4 quarts a day, have great energy and am full all the time on all the juice.
She might email the SCD lifestyle website to see if others with gastitis has had success with that diet. But I needed to do that before I could tolerate the juices.
Best of luck.

I highly recommend David Klein's book Self-healing Colitis and Crohn's. I know gastritis isn't the same as colitis or Crohn's disease, but the book has a LOT of information about gastrointestinal disease and distress in general, and it is pro-raw veganism.

hello im glad i found you..
i do have a chronic gastritis and just like your friend i have problem digesting anything and everything.apple, strawberries, tomato, orange, vinega r,meat and the list goes on and on.i can drink any kind of fruit juice but no green juices.
what you need is rejuvelac...that is it..why??its simple...rejuvelac is a anti inflamatory.it will reduce the inflamation in your stomach and will help you digesting the food your eating.
its not because you have problem digesting the food its because of the inflamation inside of the stomach that give you problem digesting..thats it
best of luck shy
