last year -2, I could get avos for between 1.29 but sometimes as low as 69 cent each. I tried to only buy when $1/per or lower.....

this year, 1.69 each, and never lower.

this situation is really impacting my diet. Avos were something satisfying, filling, and helped make it all possible for me. now I can't hardly afford them

Anyone else see this? Is it crop conditions this year - or a permanent inflationary change....

Anyone growing avos in zone 5, lol!

Solution... move to Ca. and visit your neighbors and offer to pick for them ~ and yourself. :wuv

I can get cheaper avocados sometimes but they are crap. I throw half of them away because they are black inside. I move to Texas in a week and am so looking forward to nice big fat creamy avos:) Oh yeah and to buying some of Renee's goods!

It says you live in Chicago. I live in Springfield, IL and I see the same thing down here. Every now and then Meijer has them for 2 for $3 or 3 for $4, but it seems to be happening a lot less than last year.

I did some research and it is because of the market and some crop failures. Here (http://discoveryorganics.ca/blog/randys-produce-update-march-11-2011) is a link to what I found.

Cheapest I have ever seen them by me is a $1/1.50. Right now the grocery store has 2 for $5, but they also sell the ripe ones together in a pack comes out to $1.99

we have them for $1 here but they are tiny. we also have florida avocados for $1.50 which are huge but slightly bland but good for pudding

I'm in the same situation and it's also effecting my ability to be raw. I'm probably only about 60% raw now because they were a staple for me and now they are 2 for 5 bucks. I'm in the south east...

I am in Houston, TX and they are very expensive here to this year...I agree, it is taking a toll in my avo consumption as well...last summer they were everywhere in the range of 2 for $1 or the like..now they are $1.69 and up, but more commonly available for over $2 each..(they are bigger in size BUT with a bigger seed inside the meat ratio is still not there) for sometimes not even good looking avos..what gives?

Snoops....welcome to Texas

I live in a rural area in the summer where produce in general is sometimes tough until 'fall' and the gardens really produce. I found an "in" with a local restaurant and she will order avos for me from her wholesaler. They come 24 (whole or 48 halves) in a case in vacuum sealed packs- peeled and pitted and sealed sep halves. ALL are perfect. Have about 10 day dating, but seem to last longer. If I can't use them all I just toss in freezer. Then work great for soups, guac. etc. price was 31 bucks and change per case. Product of Mexico. NO other ingredient is listed on the box.
