Welcome welcome welcome!!! :excited:

Welcome to the 30 day challenge and welcome to our new monthly format.

This is our monthly challenge thread. We are choosing to do one (or perhaps split into two) continual threads so we can create a community of support within this challenge. You can join this thread at any time during the month. Don't be shy... we love new posters!!! So if you want to join us... please do!

I welcome people who are already 100% raw to join in the conversation - supporting our challengers in their quest! :cheer:

This thread is specifically for those of you who are eager to commit to 30 consecutive days of eating 100% raw foods and seeing miraculous results!

I will start a new challenge thread on the first of every month. If I forget... send me a quick email and remind me... I'll get the challenge thread online for you quickly.

The focus of the monthly challenge is on staying raw and accountability. Therefore, if you have eaten all raw and then slip up and have something cooked, don't beat yourself up over it or dwell on it - but this is not space to discuss it. You are more than welcome to document it in your journal/blog or ask for help in the discussion area, but it is not necessary (and not allowed) to discuss your slip-up here in the challenge threads, just get right back on track and keep going! This thread is about celebrating what you are eating that IS raw!

I welcome you all to share pics of your dishes, ask questions, share what you are consuming (as long as it's raw). We are here to listen to your emotional and physical challenges. So share share share!!! :hug

OH and the best part of this (not only the support but...) you can subscribe to this thread and get notified every time someone posts to it. This way you will be connected!

So let's get this party started!!!:throwhearts:

Month 5 for me and only one day in that time where I have been less than 100% - yesterday. Back on track for me now.

I am starting my second week of being raw. I had a great first week. I lost 3 kilos, 7 lbs. I have had 2 glasses of juice, melon, I wanted to eat it but it was not sweet enough, apple, carrot, ginger and broccoli, not the best juice. :( then I had a huge salad with sweet peppers, lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, mushrooms. Its still early here so I will post the remainder of my day later.

I need to finish my produce shopping this morning but I did get 3 pounds of kale at the farmer's market yesterday (the farmer isn't certified organic but he is organic, hurray!) and I froze some blueberries a couple months ago so I had a green smoothie with kale, banana, blueberries and a tiny bit of flax seed.

I made some of the Ani Phyo coconut pudding this morning so later I might make a parfait with that and buckwheaties and whatever fruit I buy today. Also hoping to find a ripe avocado for some kale salad.

I'm trying to plan ahead because leaving room to wonder what to eat is usually where I fail.

I'm in. 100%. This will be my first attempt to eat a raw vegan diet! Cant wait to see how it goes. I'm also a full time student so this should be interesting. I just think I need a HUGE kickstart to healthy!

I have been probably wanting to eat 100% raw for half of my life but currently am at 80%. That 20% brings me down and I want to do 100%. It helps to have other people doing something with you. It gives me inspiration and motivation. I am ready and excited.

Today first I had a ginger kombucha and I ate radishes for lunch, then I drank wheatgrass, ginger, orange juice from my juicer and right now I will eat a big salad with onion, tomato and cabbage. Later I will have more wheatgrass.

Woo hooo, i'm in it AGAIN. And this time I am so prepared. I quit my job, I have the funds, and I'm going to the lake in 10 days, so I have motivation and space. I want to do a 5 day green juice fast before the lake so that I can really feel the connection to the nature when I get there, although this may end up being 1-3 days instead depending on how I feel on day 5... then after I get there it will be so easy to continue onto day 17 and into good feelings. Yes!! Finally I will break past those 7-10 days that I always fall off on!!

This time I am doing low GI raw because I have discovered that I feel a million times better without fruit. (I think I have hypoglycemia)

B: Sea-Limeade (Lime juice, stevia, spirulina) beautiful colour
L: Salad w/ disgusting dressing that I threw half of away, handful of almonds
D: Soaked macadamia nuts, hazel nuts, brazil nuts, cilantro/parsley juice (6 bunches of cilantro, 1 bunch italian parsley)

Today was really nut heavy, it was just a quick fix to hunger. I don't think i'm going to want nuts for awhile

But I feel SO EXCITED and already really cool and clear headed!! Gosh, low GI just feels sooo much clearer for me... Take care all!

Crazy day at work so I just sort of grabbed what I could when, but it was all raw.
B:.......nothing???
L: Onion bread with sprouted sunflower pate and cucumbers.
Snack: Lara bar and my wonderful friend actually had some walnut date balls for me when I dropped by!
S: Two pepperama wraps filled with avocado, peppers, tomatoes, and Snowdrop Ranch dressing. Oh my, so good. Will probably have some more onion bread too.

Yay for everyone!

Luckily I'm a gourmet raw chef so the food won't be an issue!! But I live in a household of cooked food eaters......so that's my challenge.

Started early too.....100% raw going on to day 4 now. And I feel a million times better already - all the backlog is gone and my tummy is flat again. Waaay more energy and mental clarity - I think you all can feel me on that !! :) And speaking from someone who is not going cold turkey - that extra 25% of effort goes a long way - guess I needed a break from the cooked food. Not tired at my usual bedtime...No intense cravings....only for some stale new potatoes (I know - random?) but happy to say, didn't do it.

Made some amazing raw chocolate with bee pollen that's in the freezer. Think I have to lay off the sweets and go low GI. By the way, Escape Artist, go you for going ALL in!

Everyone eats so simply...I feel like I've been eating a ton compared! Yesterday:

B - soaked oatmeal with raisins, goji and cinnamon (not exactly raw but I guess I cheated here)
S - Sticky halva of sesame seeds, walnuts, and sunflower seeds with honey
L - purple juice of grapes and celery tops
S -raw chocolate
S - 3-4 dehydrator trays of apples (!!!)
D - snacking on some salads I was making for clients - chard and carrot + broccoli kale stem

Also been taking some supplements like spirulina, and an anti-parasite powder. Gotta do less sugar tomorrow!

I have a question for anyone who might know...I've been getting some bubbles in my tummy....I don't know if my digestion might be a bit disfunctional...? Even it seems when there's nothing in there, I can feel them in there and try to burp them out (sorry for the gross factor). Does any one else get this? Gotta quell the bubbles - will try some ginger juice, someone let me know if they know what I mean!!

Keep rawcking, everyone :woot:

Hi Alisa21,

I'm on day 4 also, and I am also experiencing a bubbly tummy. I am guessing it is just a transition. It actually is less today than it was yesterday. Maybe someone with more experience can tell us more?

Otherwise I am feeling great. I had lots of energy for my spinning classes this week and managed to not be tempted at my son's Cub Scouts kickoff party last night. I waited until I got home and had a small salad -- it was too late to eat a bunch.

I got some great organic produce at the farmer's market yesterday. So this morning I had a green smoothie with kale, bean sprouts and the most delicious peaches. For lunch I am having some Armenian cucumber slices (supper big stripped cucumber--never had it before but it is yummy!), black cherry tomatoes, clover/alpha spouts, almonds and coconut flakes.

Dinner will probably be a salad or a blended soup. I also bought some quinoa at the market because I've seen people talk about eating on here. But it looks like it has to be cooked. So is it something I should avoid for these 30 days or is there a way to use it during the raw challenge?

Thanks to all for your support!

Tonya

hello Tonya ...

the bubbling tummy may be a number of things. It could be your body reacting to an increase in dietary fibre or it could be that you aren't eating enough or it could be that you are mixing nuts/seeds with your salads and that is causing indigestion.

When having nuts it is best to eat them well after fruits and veggies - also did you soak the almonds? That makes them more digestible.

You can sprout Quinoa ... yum :)

Another full work day but I ate good good. I am working on getting my blood sugar under control (my fasting has already dropped from 138 to 95 in just one week, so that is great) so this morning I substituted avocado for banana in my green smoothie and it was reeeeeeeeaaaalllly good. Think I will do that for awhile and avoid bananas, as they make my blood sugar shoot up.
B: Big green smoothie of strawberries, avocado, and spinach
Snack: Some trail mix that was way too sweet. Ick
L:Just grabbed some onion bread and kept working
S: Two pepperama wraps with sunflower pate, tomatoes, and red pepper
Lara Bar for snack (probably not so good for the blood sugar!)

We are going to go camping tomorrow. I hope I can bring enough good stuff to keep me from craving all the camp goodies. The hard part about camping is that you can't bring the blender along, no electricity, so I just have to prepare stuff ahead of time. I usually get tired of what I brought by day two, when everyone else is eating more of a variety of stuff. But I want to stay raw so I will.

queenkel
09-03-2011, 10:35 AM
Katchmoleen! You can buy camping blenders for around $40 I think. I don't think they are very high powered but awesome all the same.

Breaky today is a smoothie with chard, kale, banana, blueberries and chia seeds. Lunch will probably be a salad and a bunch of fruit. Don't know about dinner.

Starfire!!! (((hugs))) hey you gorgeous thang!!!

Sorry I've been away... my internet was down but it's back up again thankfully. Parz and I have been raw and doing great. We were eating a raw burger at Organic Lives yesterday and he said to me "If someone told me I'd be eating raw - I would have laughter at them and here I am loving this burger!"

Green smoothies for breakfast daily
lots of fruit
salads

Going to make some more kale chips and some crackers later today. ;)

Good to hear that the tummy gets better Tonya.

The most interesting part of all this is hearing all the amazing and different varieties of food from each locale! Today I had a "liquid" day, just kind of happened, I didn't even plan it.

For breakfast I had a chocolate-acai-plum-nectarine-banana-coconut oil-bee pollen-probiotic smoothie (:cheer:)

Then lunch was late, and I was starving for a beet, carrot, ginger and weed juice (weed of choice is wood sorrel). Dinner followed shortly - a celery and almond milk soup from "Rawvolution" cookbook, too much salt though! I downed like 6 cups of herbal tea afterwards...didn't realize I was so dehydrated since my body doesn't normally ask for this many liquids. No sugar cravings today! Yay!! Oh, I forgot, I had more raw bee pollen chocolate...guess I got my sugar fix.

OUt of interest, I'll let you know what my farmers market is carrying lately as far as local produce goes (we are in southern Ontario, Canada): mostly tomatoes, some beets, carrots, potatoes, zucchini, hot peppers, cucumbers, spinach, chard, collards, dill, cilantro, butternut squash, patty pan squash, acorn squash and cabbage. That's all I can remember!

I've never seen black cherry tomatoes, sounds cool :)

Good day yesterday - but long! Up at 7am to help my mother pack and set off safely and then up until 12:30 waiting for BF to get back from Cornwall where he's been working. Quite a modest raw intake for me. Plenty of cycling and hooping.

I had a long day yesterday as well. I had to help my brother move for the 17th time in six years (no lie!) and then worked all night. I work at the front desk of a hotel in victoria which doubles as a truffle and baked good shop so it is veeeerrry difficult to resist the goodies but I did! Today I got a bit of a sleep in. Carrot juice for brekky, lots of fruit through out the day and a green smoothie for dinner. That's the plan.

hey everybody

was wanting to start this out with a 7 day juice fast but I made it to day 2, and the detox was too much for me. I could barely stand up because of weakness and felt nauseous and feverish, couldn't stay awake but having nightmares when asleep and so I ate some coconut and a salad. Feeling so much better now which means it was definitely detox, which actually makes me want to go back and face the detox now knowing that I can always pull out when I want. So I will be juicing again tomorrow, maybe just intermittently or maybe for the rest of the 5 days at least

Was going to have melon for breakfast but find myself eating nectarines! May have melon later. Salad for lunch probably ... or melon of course.

The weather is foul and I have a week without transport other than the bike so I am hoping I don't get too wet. Some drenching seems inevitable though.

Here's to another raw week everyone; Cheers!

Hi!

I'm a newbie, who chanced upon your warm community while looking
for a raw buddy.
I've never been 100% raw, but am working towards it.
Just been diagnosed by an irridologist that I have candida and 'prescribed'
a no-sugar, no fermented food diet.
Have to eliminate some 'sweet fruits' like melons too :(

Am raw today with:
2 coconuts
Ani Phyo's mock tuna salad on tomato and cucumber

mmmm those avos look good! Today was a good day. Went to family dinner and ate an avocado and tomato salad with fresh herbs, an avocado and tomato soup, and a green salad. Everyone else had ribs, potatoes, corn on the cob, and salad. I was all loud and cheery after dinner and they were tired and stuffed. Ha ha! Tomorrow is the first day of my new semester which means I'll be up @ 5:30 to go to work, will work an 8 hour shift, then home for a quick bite and off the school until 9. Loooong day. My sweetie is going to make me a raw dinner on all my school nights so that should help. I'm going to try making my lunch the night before too because working in a truffle shop/ restaurant is too much temptation without food to keep my full. I have found that apples are the best thing to keep cravings at bay. They keep me soo full. I got a bunch of free apples from my brothers backyard and they are just grand.

Your "brekky" sounds delish starfire! I will have to learn how to make almond mylk one of these days!

Everyone have a good night and I'll 'see' you all tomorrow!:hug

Queenkel, your sweetie is REALLY sweet! What a luxury.

I celebrate my second day of fully raw :cheer: with

salad (lettuce, cherry tomatoes and almond dressing)
2 coconuts
2 snakeskin fruits (I have no idea with they're called, they have
a scaly snake-like skin.)
Ani Phyo's mock tuna salad on cucumber and tomato with wakame

Tomorrow I have a work dinner/meeting at a Chinese vegetarian restaurant.
I doubt they have raw food and my hosts are looking foward to 'show'
me their entire menu. I want to keep raw but don't want to disappoint them.
Any suggestions?

Cycled home from work into a gale force, gusting wind which was very heavy going - especially on the up-hill stretches. A slight improvement from the morning cycling in to work where I got drenched by a constant, heavy rain and the contents of the gutter when a lorry sped past.

I rarely feel very hungry after a bike ride so I have just had some bananas with pureed mango over the top. I shall maybe have something else later. I might go soak some raw almonds in case I fancy nuts.

I need to stay more focused on this site. Everyone here is such a help. I have been eating soo much fruit this week. I feel better than I have in a long time. Went for a swim at my local gym tonite and did a spin class. Plus worked 8 hrs. Going night night now...after my plum (slurps).

Hi everyone, I got back from my camping trip. Had a wonderful time and stayed MOSTLY raw. The nonraw things were deliberate choices to rejoice with my 12yo son who caught his first fish! I have a ladies' retreat to go to this week and my birthday is this weekend. It will be a challenge for sure!

Hi Georgina,
it's not lychee. I just found it on the web. It's
called salak, from Indonesia.
8837

Bonnie I can relate to you. I adore fruits and I can eat fruits all day.
But since I've been 'diagnosed' with candida, I have to cut sweet fruits
(She's kind enough to only ban sweet fruits like melons and mangos.)
Very very tough to cut fruits for me. I crave it.

But in a way it's good, coz a cheat for me now is a fruit instead of a cookie.
hahaha. We crave forbidden food.

It's only mid-day now, and I had
warm lime juice
jicama carrot beet tomato lettuce salad with almond dressing
dragon fruit + pasley + greens smoothie

Quite a lot of food. Somehow I feel hungrier than usual.

Good to know you had a dry ride Georgina!
Denise, I thought candida was caused from too much starch?? Perhaps its sugar in any stage or form, lol.
I started out today with just pineapple chunks. Heard its good for my arthritis, etc.
Next I had a dandelion/banana/turmeric smoothie. It needed stevia,,yuck to the turmeric!
Peace, Bonnie:throwhearts:

alisa21
09-07-2011, 05:30 PM
Wow, no offense Bonnie but that smoothie does sound a little yucky. Speaking of stevia, too much is definitely not a good thing~! Didn't realize we've got big plant of it growing on the deck (rejoice!!), but even 4 small leaves of it is waaay too much in a drink. Still prefer my raw honey I think. Having been doing ok on the low-glycemic, and not even craving sweets! Until now

For some reason fruits are not calling to me, even though we've got apples and plums growing all around (maybe I had too many). ANyways, while the rest of my household was having white crusty bread with melted cheese, and peanut butter and chocolate cereal (for dinner? I know!?) I decided why not treat myself and make a cake. Just because. And I had to share the recipe because it's too amazing to keep a secret:

Base: food process about 1 cup nuts and 1 cup soft dates

Filling: - 3 avocados
- 1/2 cup coconut oil (and it doesn't taste too coconutty surprisingly)
- 1/3 cup raw honey or other sweetener (adjust to taste)
- juice of one whole lemon or lime

Put the crust on your plate or mould (if using a mould, pour the filling in first, smooth down, freeze, then add the crust when you take it out to serve), pour on the filling, then freeze until solid. Omg I just died and went to heeeaaaven..... Top with sliced fruit like kiwis, apples, or really anything goes well with this, I imagine raspberries would too. Or just dig in to the creaminess!!

I hope you love it as much as I did. I am proud to say I had at least 1 or 2 full days without chocolate (baby steps...). Other than that, today I had

B - Sesame coconut cinnamon and raw honey halvah (it was chilly here, needed some warming food!)
S - Plum, grape, spinach and celery top juice....not as bad as it sounds
L - Sheep sorrel, sprout and cabbage salad with apple-ginger dressing
Dinner/dessert: cake!

Bring on the sweets again! Can't live without em :)

Hey all...

Alisa, that cake sounds delish! When you say soft dates do you mean you soaked them or just picked the squishiest of the bunch?

Lucy - Good job with your dinner! That's always been the hardest part for me. Even if I'm not craving I always feel a bit silly when I explain that I'm going raw YET AGAIN. But your vegan friends are probably more accepting of the raw than my SAD ones.

Denise - I'm sad to hear you have to quit fruit! Will you be able to eat more of it when the candida calms down? Sorry I don't know much about candida.

Georgina - I think it's just awesome that you still ride around in the rain. Most people would use that as an excuse to drive or bus or cab!

Bonnie - tee hee that smoothie does sound rather awful. I learned the hard way as well that not everything healthy should go in a smoothie. I once made a smoothie with avocado, sea weed, berries, spirulina, and greens I think. I had no produce left so i just winged it. To make a long story short, I dumped it down the toilet. It was just too nasty!

Katchmoleen - Congrats on your raw camping! And congrats to your little one for catching his first fish! Have fun at your retreat and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I have the day off! yay! I'm going to go make myself some carrot, orange and ginger juice and it's going to be so darned good! Then I'm going thrist store shopping with a girl friend and we'll probably go for lunch and I'll probably have to tell her I'm raw. For some reason, since I've tried and failed so many times, I don't like to tell people until I've done it for a few weeks. maybe I can convince her to come back to my place to make a big salad and I'll just tell her I'm eating 'healthy'. People seem to find that so much more acceptable. It's funny. When someone mentions they are quitting smoking people are so happy for them and supportive of them, but when people say that are quitting cooked food it's usually a different story. On the bright side my folks are more than supportive about it. I got my parents to watch food matters and now they are like 70% raw and totally vegan! My siblings are more resistant but they at least let me be and don't try to convince me that I'm doing the worng thing.

Anyways, this quick little morning post is getting a little long winded so I'm going to make that juice I've been drooling about all morning! Have a lovely day!

you are so right queenkel. When I quit smoking (almost 5 yrs. ago), people were so supportive. I still get compliments to this day. But when you change your eating habits, they look at you like you've lost your mind. Perhaps (IMHO) it's 'cause they feel threatened by their poor food choices. By watching me eat healthy, they feel guilty. Guilty because they THINK they can't do it.
Also, all the "food" occasions they enjoy....thanksgiving,bar-b-ques, canoe trips with hoagies and chips, etc. My own family members have said they would rather die than give up grilling their dead animal carcuses. Sad, because, they will die. We all will. Just some sooner than others, some suffering more than others.

My morning smoothie: banana, blues, and pineapple
lunch: watermelon wedges
dinner: my simple salad
snack: perhaps more watermelon since I bought 3 today. I love this time of year!!

Peace, Bonnie

Queenkel,

I have to ride around in the rain really because my bf is working away at the moment and he has our only vehicle. A cab would be so expensive that it would eat up probably half my day's pay. The bus is an option and come the snow and sleet, I will probably take it but it is awesomely slow and doesn't stop in sensible places.

Munching on cut-price nectarines and tomatoes and seriously thinking about bed (18:18!)

A number of people in work have nasty bugs and I feel as though I am fighting something off so not 100% but a whole bunch better than they are :)

bonzer... gotta try avos! they are wonderful in salads - and also make a mean chocolate pudding! Hey - I didn't know pineapple is supposed to be good for arthritis! that's good to know!

I tell ya I learn so much on this forum!

katchmoleen... Haaaapy Birthday! :hug

MysticTree... you amaze me... ! How far do you have to ride to get to work? Will you bf be back soon so you wont have to be riding in the rain much longer? stay healthy girl! hope you don't come down with anything!

queenkel... i know how you feel. Even in the 'raw food community' I often felt judged. when anyone would find out I'm a 'raw foodie'... the FIRST comment is ALWAYS - "HOW raw are you? Are you ALL raw? 100%...? if not - what percentage would you say you are?"
that just irritated me - I felt like I was always having to explain myself. So I stopped saying I was a raw foodie... instead I call myself a 'Healthy Food Eater". and funny - no one EVER asked me 'what percent healthy are you?'....

It's always good to remind ourselves -- it's a journey -- it's not a 'beam me up Scotty' and "I'm THERE' ... it's a work in progress... sometimes we eat healthier than others - but our goal is be healthy ALWAYS!

ok.. now as for me - I spent the day swimming in our swimming hole and exploring our stream... took the dogs with me and we had a blast. lunch was salad w/avocado & pesto. Oh!! AND my hubby ate raw with me last night! yeah!
HUGE colorful salad with pesto stuffed mushrooms, sprouted quinoa and raw corn on the cob..mmmmmm yuum!!

i have no clue what's for dinner... probably salad again -- like Aleesha - I'm lovin the salads right now! I love beautiful colorful food!

everyone have a RAWmacious Day!! :throwhearts:

Dont' be sorry, I loved your post! :) BTW I'm so jealous you live in Hawaii!!!

I'm going through a salad phase too. And I'm craving tomatoes all the time, which is strange because I'ven never been a fan of tomatoes before. My tastebuds are changing. I also ate a whole plate of raw cauliflower yesterday, and I never liked raw cauliflower before.

Today I had a spinach pinapple juice for breakfast, and later on a tomato carrot, red pepper and dandelion juice.
For lunch I had about 2 klios of yummy grapes, and a banana. I'll have a big green salad for lunch, with nori and alfalfa sprouts, and maybe a tomato and avocado soup.

I'm trying to get my kids to drink green juices too. It's a bit of a challenge. I 'm going to make them that avocado dessert when I get a chance too. It sounds delicious!!

I started on this thread eating 100% raw in April but I dropped out for awhile but continued to eat at least 80% raw. My problem is I have extensive dental work underway with braces, removing teeth, etc and has been very difficult from an eating standpoint. For a good part of the time I had to restrict myself to liquids only. But Friday I received a temporary bridge that is allowing me to chew again. I had my first apple in almost a year and a half. Yesterday I made some raw crackers and I am in heaven. I was eating salads but it was so difficult and would take me forever to finish. So I would like to join the challenge today and get back on track. Everyone here is such an inspiration.

Just got around to blending up my first green smoothie yesterday - and another today! So tasty - and this morning when I woke up for the first time ever - I actually felt hunger. I have always had to force breakfast down, and this natural feeling of hunger was amazing.

I've been incorporating more chia seeds in my raw diet and love the way they fill me up and keep me going all day. I picked the last of my tomatoes from the garden yesterday and I'm starting to stockpile the last of my kale. We are due for our first frost. I start everyday with a green smoothie with coconut water, watermelon rind, banana, pineapple, strawberries, maca powder, wheatgrass powder, kale, gotu kola, chia seeds and coconut oil.

Lunch: Chia Granola: Almond milk, 3 tbsp chia seeds, cinnamon, stevia, diced apples, diced kiwi, diced cantaloupe. It gels into a wonderful filling pudding.

Snack: 2 crackers with nut butter

Dinner: Salad with romaine lettuce, red peppers, cucumbers and a raw teriyaki dressing.

Yeah amoux. I resisted alright. But I'm learning to use the words "chose to use raw" instead of "resisted tempting SAD food". It gives me more power when I 'choose' to do something.
I know, I play a mindgame, with myself, lol.

I had been doing green smoothies for the last 2 yrs. even when I'm not 100% raw. They are so nourishing, are'nt they?

It's early for me....7 am and I'm off from work today. I have a new found energy. Think I'll go get a banana/mango/raspberry smoothie now. (from my kitchen of course) Can't believe the biggest fast food chain in US is selling smoothies and saying how great for you they are. Ugggghhhhh!!!!
They are loaded with sugar! We need a healthy fast food restaurant with a drive-thru so we can get our raw smoothies.

trying a new breakfast meal. I usually have fruit but fancied a change. So this is it.

almond milk with the chunks of nut left in it and some cardamom seeds for flavour
added some chia seed and left it overnight
chopped a date on the top.

It's a sort of stiff ready-brek consistancy and obviously it's cold not hot.

It tastes good. Will be interested to see how it sits in the stomach.

My DH kindly bought me a basic dehydrator, so overnight I have made some 'Cheezy Itz' from a recipe I found online, and they have turned out really well - well, to look at, anyway. Looking forward to trying one at dinner. They're made from nuts and seeds, a tomato, red bell pepper and seasoning, so I'm really curious about how they're going to taste. Smelled wonderful while cooking, and the dogs loved the broken bits they hoovered up this morning :-)

They were really great! My DH, who is a dedicated omnivore and views raw eating with interest but no inclination to adopt it, commented on how they smelled so cheesy, and he really enjoyed them. I had a couple with dinner last night and they were lovely - slightly chewy, savoury and quite filling. I spread some hummus on them and they went really well together.

I'm quite tempted now to make some onion bread, but I've decided to finish these up first! So I'm going to have a go at making kale chips tonight ... I'm intrigued by the idea of them, and the dehydrator is calling to me :-)

Still hanging on in there - can hardly believe that today is day 29 raw!

Last night I had such a funny dream - I dreamed that it was gone 3 o'clock in the afternoon, and that I was hungry. I knew I'd had a smoothie for lunch, but just decided to cook and eat two veggie burgers with cheese!!! And even in the dream, I was saying to myself 'you know you had your lovely smoothie for lunch, you weren't hungry, so why on earth did you do it?' - and just saying to myself - 'I forgot! I just forgot!' I was most relieved to wake up and find out it was a dream :-)

That sounds delicious Georgina! Can you tell me what else is in the dressing othere than honey? It's funny but I got some broccoli today for a really good price too. I juiced the stems this morning, and kept the florets to steam for the kids. Now I think I want to try marinating them. Yummy!

Speaking of dreams, a couple of days ago I dreamed I was eating chicken. That is so weird because I havne't had chicken in 15 years, red meat either. I wonder if that means I'm not getting enough protein. I'd better make some sprouts.

just made a huge batch of massaged kale salad.

INGREDIENTS:-
200g kale
4 medium carrots, grated
2 largish courgettes, grated
1 small red onion (I may add another one later), chopped
honey dressing listed previously

EQUIPMENT:-
Very large bowl - to make the salad in
Knife
Grater or food processor
chopping board
Smaller bowl - to store it in, in the fridge

take out main ribs of the kale and slice into ribbons about 1/4 inch wide.
Pour on enough dressing to do a little more than coat the kale and then get in with your hands and squish and squeezed that kale with your hands until the volume reduces to about half
Mix in the ready prepared other veggies and add more dressing if needed; bear in mind a fair amount of liquid will come from the veggies so you shouldn't need to add more and you can always add more when it's on the plate.

I served mine with slices of tomato and an avo chopped up and sprinkled over the top.

Hello. I'm new to raw. This is my 2nd day of 100% raw. After eating raw til lunch for about a month, I decided to commit to being to 100% raw for 30 days. I hope to loose some weight and look and feel better. Yesterday was hard, I ate a lot but still had some hunger during the day. This morning I woke up tired, weighed myself and my weight was up by about half a pound. Is it normal to gain weight and feel tired when first starting out?

MysticTree
09-19-2011, 08:05 AM
It's perfectly normal for weight to fluctuate anyway regardless of whether you are trying to lose weight or not. Just ignore the scales for a while and it will come good.

Eat when you are hungry and don't worry about what it is or how much just concentrate on it being raw and getting accustomed to eating that way.

icebox326
09-19-2011, 09:14 AM
I will eat when hungry and not worry about how much I'm eating. You're right, the important thing is that it's raw. So, I'll just eat whatever I want as long as it's 100% raw. This morning I made a green smoothie with a bunch of cilantro, a cored pineapple, and half a cucumber. It was really good. Cilantro is my favorite herb. I took half to work with me and will have the other half when I get home. I brought with me also the other half of the cucumber, flax seed crackers (raw of course), and five bananas. I believe in the healing powers of raw food, but I worry about the negative things I read/hear about this way of life, for instance how hard it is to get your nutrients and how it leads to tooth decay. So, I figured I would give raw a 30-day trial and if I feel great at the end of my 30 days I'll continue.

MysticTree

only vitaminB-12 is really an issue and as to tooth decay, just look after your teeth.

This is a recipe I found online. Is it raw?

Tomato Basil Cream Sauce
Yield about 1 1/4 quarts or 5 cups
2 1/2 pounds ripe tomatoes
1/2 cup packed fresh basil leaves
3/4 cup raw cashews
1/4 cup raw pine nuts
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
sea salt (to taste)
Wash and cut the whole tomatoes into large chunks (the skins, seeds, and core go in the sauce). Add the tomatoes, basil, cashews, pine nuts, olive oil, and a few pinches of salt to the blender (or Vita-Mix). Blend until silky smooth. Taste and adjust salt, if necessary. Store in a glass jar in the refrigerator.

as long as all the ingredients you use are raw then the result is raw. So ... with this one you mention, the only thing that doesn't state it's raw is the oil. Choose a raw oil and truly raw nuts and it's fine.

as long as all the ingredients you use are raw then the result is raw. So ... with this one you mention, the only thing that doesn't state it's raw is the oil. Choose a raw oil and truly raw nuts and it's fine.

How do you know if your olive oil is raw? Does it need to mention raw on the label? I was hoping to make this for dinner over raw zucchini and yellow squash. If I am unable to find raw olive oil, is there a good substitute, or will it be fine without?

I am about to eat an entire box of Flackers, but at least they are raw. LOL.

I get cold-pressed from my supermarket. I am assured it has seen no heat in its production. All I can do is hope they are telling me the truth!

The other point I should have made is that for the sake of actually eating dinner then 1 tbsp of non-raw oil is surely ok! Just look out for a really nice raw one - I get mine unfiltered too as I like the flavour - if you want to use oil in lots of things. If you only use it occasionally then a little non-raw every now and then is better than starving and then falling on really, really sad food like KFC!!!

Good morning all. It's almost fall. Feels so crisp outside...50* instead of 90*

Going to kitchen right now to get my break-fast on. Pineapple/strawberry/banana smoothie

Then lunch is a salad with a banana as a snack

Not sure for dinner....maybe a large fruit salad with my georgous grapes/figs/pears I got from farmers market on Saturday.

Hope everyone else is having a rawsome almost autumn day!!

Peace, Bonnie (who loves blueberries) Day 20 100% raw

Hi Bonnie - yep, autumn has definitely arrived. I love this time of year ... so pretty. I had fruit for breakfast (strawberries, soaked goji berries, grapes and a banana) - and am planning a Green Smoothie for lunch :-)

forgot to bring my kale salad to work this morning. So a rather limited lunch of watercress and romaine with raw dressing. I had a melon for breakfast and there is still one melon I can eat this afternoon before leaving work. Will stop off at the shop to get some avos and bits for a glolumptious supper!

This morning I packed a large fruit salad with 1 mango, 3 bananas, a container of strawberries, 1/4 cup raw sunflower seeds, and 1 avocado. This is what I am munching on right now. I don't have a plan yet for the rest of the day.

Georgina, thanks for letting me know about the olive oil. I am not sure what kind I have, but I'll look for something cold pressed, since I think surely raw is better because of the enzymes.

Today is day #3 and I am going strong. I had a beet salad last night with 2 beets, 1/2 red onion, and 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar. It was okay, not great but good enough. Last night I had severe cravings. Thankfully I chose to stay raw.

My husband pointed out to me last night that my face is breaking out. Plus, I've been having really bad gas.

Oh my....MysticTree aka Georgina is a tree now!!! I see sprouts and leafs alot, but not trees!! Let's keep building this forest everyone!

Congrats Georgina for hanging in here so long. You are a role model for us. Thank you for all your posts and insights.....and great recipes, lol.

I just had a raw cocoa mix (raw agave, cocoa, peppermint and raisins) yummy.
Now I'm making my afternoon smoothie for later with pinapple/mango/banana
Dinner will be a tomato/basil (from my garden) and red onion salad

it's so dark in the mornings now. I have to get some better lights for my bike.

Melon for breakfast. Lunch is a bit slim but lettuce, tomatoes, avo and dressing should suffice and i'll get some bits and bobs on my way home.

My mother is visiting tomorrow afternoon and the weekend is getting a little bit closer. I'm looking forward to the weekend!

Enjoyed what's probably the last of the strawberries for breakfast - about to juice up carrot, apple, beetroot and ginger by way of a snack - and some onion bread and hummus for lunch. I think I may be forming a serious relationship with the juicer :-)

That's so funny amoux!! I am getting real close to my blender this last month!

Had a great day off with DH today. No non-raw food issues came up. He actually asked ME what foods I could get at a quaint coffee shop he likes to visit. I said "I'm good, I just had a salad for lunch not long ago.) In the past I would have scoped out all the fresh pastries that were just displayed.

Tonight I ate some local cantelope.....NJ is in it's melon season now. I am in bliss.

Peace, Bonnie

I love melon ... not many around right now for some reason. Well done at the coffee shop - that's really encouraging to hear.

All going pretty well here - just juiced up a mid-morning snack of beetroot, apple, carrot and orange - I forgot to add the ginger, but the orange in the mix gives it a really nice kick! Green Smoothie for lunch I think - I've started putting in savoy cabbage, and it's fine tastewise but seems to make the texture a bit odd - thick and kind of starchy, in some way. I'll try blending at a higher speed today.

Managed to get some more strawberries at the weekend, so I can carry on having those at breakfast. Juicing still going strong - have got the sweetest, juiciest oranges that I can remember at the moment - and they are so zesty and delicious. Beautiful autumn weather, enjoying the sun and the eaves changing colour.

Now, time to get on the Gazelle!

Well I finished all my cantelopes for the week. Just in time,,,,there's some toxic outbreak in certain cantelopes this year. It came up on my yahoo home page. Glad I didn't eat any of them! 13 people died so far.

Been getting grapes fairly cheap right now. Splurged on some oranges also.

Two more weeks 'til my local apples come off the tree!! Golden delicious are my favorite! Gonna make some no-bake apple cobbler with the red ones and the local raw honey I just got. Yummo

I really miss MysticTree's posting on here. Sure hope things are getting better on her end. I pray for her bf's quick recovery and patience, tolerance and peace for her.

Peace, Bonnie

I just bought a bag of the first Satsumas of the season!

And yes, thinking of MysticTree too - hoping her bf is getting better and that they're both okay.

I am in, and this is Day 1 of me doing totally raw. Going to make my shake right now. I know the first few days will be difficult!
