View Full Version : Sores in mouth?

I am just wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else and if you figured out what caused it. I have been getting sores in my mouth. They are very painful and hurt when I eat. I have had two in the last month and they have started from cuts in my mouth, once I bite the inside of my cheek the other I got myself in the gums while brushing my teeth.

I have never been one of those people prone to cold sores or things of that nature. I told my mom about it and she gave me some L-Lysine to take, she gets cold sores when stressed and she said the L-Lysine helps her a lot. She also said that L-Lysine is a type of protein and that maybe I was not getting enough protein being on a raw diet. I have been putting my food intake for the day into a cronometer and by most standards I don't get "enough" protein, but I feel fine. SO I don't really think this is the cause, since I have been on a very high raw diet for almost 9 months now.

The only other thing I can think that might be causing this is mangoes. Which saddens me greatly. I LOVE mangoes, and eat them everyday. I have read that some people they cause poison ivy type rashes, soooo I was wondering if the mangos could be aggravating the cuts in my mouth and causing them to become worse and turn into sores.

Anyone experience this? Any words of wisdom?

Thanks

I used to get these when I consumed to many dairy products (not that I am insinuating that you are).

Maybe it is a food thing? I would try to leave out the mangos for a few days and see how it goes. If it gets better maybe it means that you were just eating to many.

I got sores when I was eating too much citrus, but that's it. Are you eating any citrus? It could be just be too much of any one thing that is causing the sores. Although, this is just a thought. I am not sure.

I don't know about the mango thing....I've not heard that before but do know people who have mouth issues with pineapple and/or oranges. I hope you find your answer.

If it should happen again though, what I do for cheek or lip bites is to place a little salt in my hand, wet the tip of a finger, and dab it in to pick up some salt. Place that bit of salt on the sore. It will dessicate it a little bit pulling the tissue tighter so the swelling is not so pronounced. That will help prevent from biting it again, and again. It helps it heal more quickly as well. I suppose it would work on gum scrapes/cuts. Another healing method for gum sores is to lay a slice of garlic on it and hold in place for a while.

You might look and see what foods are good for a healthy mucosal defense and increase their consumption. Again I sure hope you figure this out.

I should retract my garlic suggestion. It's more for something like an abscess, sore tooth, or canker sore. Might be harsh if your mouth is irritated like I think you mean. What might work nicely for your gum and cheek is a slippery elm poultice. You can get it at w/foods or a health food store in a ground or shredded form. Mix a little up with water to a paste and put a pinch in your gum/cheek. For you mouth you could probably just put a pinch in dry. We use it on cuts and burn and it works great.
It's not offensive flavored, it's good at drawing, helps a wound stich up cleanly and scab free, and is soothing.

Are you making sure to eat the mangoes when fully ripe? Eating a lot of fruit unripe can cause issues.

I don't think I eat too much citrus...now. When I got the first one I WAS drinking "green lemonade" juicing kale, lemon, apples, and cucumber. So after I got the first one I quit drinking the green lemonade, not to mention it was just very painful to eat anything acidic with a open sore in your mouth. In a way the sore in my mouth make me very aware of what I am eating.

I have tried putting salt on them to help them heal, but I felt like it made them worse, which is odd because in the past when I have cut or bitten my gums salt HAS helped but this time I felt like it didn't.

I have not eaten mangoes in about 3 days now, very sad for me I think mango is my very favorite fruit. I am taking L-Lysine to heal the sore in my mouth that I have now and it seems to be the only thing that helps.

Maybe I am over thinking it, but I can't help but think something must be off for me to keep getting these things when I can't ever remember having them before. Makes me wonder if My body is not getting something it needs or if I'm overloading it on something.....ya know.

I do usually try to make sure my fruit is ripe when I eat it, but I have in the past eaten a mango that was not quite ripe, and I prefer the riper ones so I usually let them ripen, but I will keep this in mind in the future..Thanks Steven.

I find that apple cider vinegar works the best. It's hard to hold it in your mouth for long, but just try and keep it on the wound for a couple minutes maybe 3 times a day. From what I understand ACV establishes the proper PH in your mouth, which instantly makes it feel better plus that allows it to heal much faster.
