So I was just wondering how you all feel about agave nectar? If you eat it, how much do you eat in a week? I seem to be using it a lot lately, but I just got some dates and I froze a TON of organic bananas to add to things if they need to be sweeter for my palate.

In the store it says "raw", but I know that does not mean that it is good for you. I have read the literature on it and it seems that many people say that it is just like HFCS, I disagree with that, but I want your opinions. As a raw foodist is this something that I should be consuming? I am currently at 100% raw accept for spices that I buy organic in bulk that may be processed and I don't want all of this effort of trying to be healthy be impacted negatively by some kind of sweetener :/

Let me know what you think!

I don't use it.

I (http://www.purelyraw.com/deadfoodlist.htm) use honey or dates instead. I don't think agave nectar featured in Alissa's first book but I can't be sure and I haven't read the second one.

If you are concerned enough about the amount of agave that you are eating, to post about it, it may be that you already know your answer.

I think raw honey tastes better than agave nectar anyway! dates and bananas are a step in the right direction.

I use it but not super often. it takes me a few weeks to go through a little bottle and I feel that's healthy... Right?

Thanks everyone! I am vegan so I don't eat raw honey, hopefully I can train my pallet to not expect things to be sweet!

Dates ... there is a link posted by DebB for a good date sweetener you can keep in the fridge. If I can find it I'll post a link to it.

I use it once in a great while when I make raw ice cream, but it isn't a staple in my diet at all. I get a strong feeling (just from intuition) that it isn't very healthy and I don't feel great after eating it, but it's okay for a once in awhile treat, I've decided.
