I was reading here on the board about the master cleanse. Ok, I bought Alissa's recipe book and it had a bunch of information in the first few chapters, nothing about master cleanse (unless I missed it). Does this come from another book, which one?

ive done 30 fasts and many times drank the master cleanse recipe ,
and to me its no big deal . its rather that imo the ' master cleanse ' title sounds
cool so its caught on with people . but in reality theres nothing so great about it .
but anyway just search internet for master cleanse and youll find hundreds of references

the master cleanse is something from the early 20th century. It isn't raw but it has captured the imagination. I don't think there is anything special about it.

Lots of good cleansing is not just drinking juices, it also involves sweating out toxins via exercise and special sauna's and taking magnesuim filled whirlpool baths. lt is advised to never just do water fasts because most people and vegans are nutritionally deficient enough, so the key is to do green juice fasts once a week and rely on getting all hot and sweaty and eating healthy concentrated sprouted foods and algae foods to top up the lost nutrition. Fasting for long periods of time is not advised according to people who know what they are doing.

I had done the Master Cleanse in college a few times with some girlfriends.. to release toxins. A lot of people these days seem to think it's a quick fix diet. It's purpose is to detox, just like raw food diet, but I think it's a excelleration of detox do to the large amounts of water/lemons you are drinking. You are also told to drink a laxative tea, and salt water rinse which flushes you are pretty drastically and quickly.
There is a book that was written by Stanley Burroughs. http://www.amazon.com/Master-Cleanser-Stanley-Burroughs/dp/0963926209. It tells you everything you need to know about the master cleanse. If you decide to do the cleanse, I highly DON'T recommend getting your info from one of the "lemonade diet" websites.
In my experience I saw far greater detoxification signs from switching to a raw food diet, than I did when doing the cleanse. I dropped a lot of weight doing the cleanse, but it was short lived and I returned to my old Sad ways of eating. If you aren't already eating raw, the master cleanse might be a jump start to eating raw when you come off the cleanse (which you are supposed to be doing anyways).
