View Full Version : Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and me

Hi everyone!
I have hypothyroidism due to having Hashimoto's disease.

My hubby and I are going to start juicing up some fruits and veggies for a 10 day fast. My doctor gave me the go ahead but stupid me, I forgot to ask him if I should avoid anything in particular (the goiter causing food group like kale, broccoli, mustard greens, etc). I will be tested every 3 months to see how my thyroid and anemia are coping. I will also be taking an iron supplement daily because I am very anemic due to heavy blood loss during my periods (sorry for TMI but I'm irritated when people assume I'm anemic from not eating my fricken spinach).

I would like to know if anyone has any experience with juicing and hypothyroidism. I did a little search on the forums about it and people have their opinions, but I am actually looking for someone who can relate to my situation and maybe throw some words of wisdom at me :) Also, I got a little overwhelmed searching through the posts, but if there is a particular link I should look at, I would be happy to do that.

Thanks!

Hello FM,

Sorry I can't help with personal anecdotes on your condition but this might be interesting to you.

Have you looked into Iodoral? It's a pottasium/iodine pill that's based on Lugol's solution. It's one of those little miracle cures that's been around for more than a hundred years, but unfortunately has become heavily regulated. The liquid form is not longer available in full strength, the closest thing however is Iodoral which is still legal OTC. You may want to research and experiment with both.

I am loving his channel and watch all his videos. I've got a telephone consult with him the end of October (he's a busy doctor!) and I will be mainly discussing my hypothyroidism with him and "all" that goes with it (I'm hypo after being hyper and having it killed - sigh). I ordered his book and it arrived yesterday - am anxious to crack the cover! *Ü*

Lugols is still available in the 5% anyway. Unless something changed recently. I bought a bottle when the whole Japan thing happened.

After contemplating kelp, I've decided to give it a go. I am scared of going into HYPERthyroid mode but that would just mean that I'm healing myself and will maybe be fortunate enough to cut down my thyroid meds.

Today I made my first juice: pineapple, kiwi, spinach, green leaf lettuce (not iceburg), beet, kale and spinach. I'm aiming for 1/3 fruit and 2/3 veggies.

I'll look into stinging nettle for iron. Thanks everyone for the replies! I'm learning so much :)
