I finally got my husband to believe in curing his diabetes with the raw food diet! He's slowly switching because it's not easy for him and if he has any problems at work he can get fired! So he's trying it a step at a time by: -cutting out all processed carbs, eating all raw fruits and vegetables for his carbs except he has one serving on whole oats with his breakfast! He's also cut down on his meat and dairy! He has is just a little spoon of butter in his whole oats in the morning! He don't have any chesse! He has one 2 oz sausage pattie, six eggs throughout the day, his casserole I make him has about 1/4 lb of ground turkey in it! It still might sound like alot of animal products, but he has made alot of progress already! He has already had to cut down on his insulin and his blood sugar is 95% of the time great!
I'm trying to get him to eat more fruit's because he needs it or his blood sugar get's too low. He has been eating like inleast 10 bananas a day- especially on night's he works! Bananas make it easy for him because it's a higher carb fruit! The problem I'm worried about with the bananas is he's been a diabetic for a very long time, since he was a teenager and he's 38 now! His mom was telling him not to get too carried away with banana's because of his blood pressure! She said too much can be too dangerous to his kidney's! He's been on blood pressure meds. before! Last time he got his blood pressure checked it was o.k. So I'm just trying to find out if alot bananas as his main carbs would be safe or not!
The way I got my husband to try this and believe in it, is by having him to watch the Simply Raw video! How alot of diabetics cured their diabetes in 30 days! So I was just wondering if raw diabetics have to be careful with bananas or not! I did some searching about this, but I couldn't find any of them talking about a diabetic eating too many bananas!
Would anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance and have a fruitful day!

I may be mistaken, but I think the potassium in bananas would actually LOWER his blood pressure.
I would also think that as long as he keeps checking his blood sugar, while eating the bananas, and he doesn't notice a negative impact, he should be fine. If you are really worried about it, you could always just ask the doctor managing his diabetes if bananas would have a negative impact.

It's great that he's prepared to try this way of managing and who knows maybe even curing his diabetes but he really needs to cut out all the meat-based foods and any other cooked foods he may be having in order to fully see how well raw will work for him.
There is a thread on here somewhere which talks about fats being key to making diabetes worse/increasing risk. Click the search button at the top and see if you can find it. It may be relevant. Also lots of other threads on diabetes on the forum and also in The Daily Telegraph recently about curing diabetes with diet which is also online line if you do a search.

Thanks you two for your info and help, but I guess I didn't explain myself like I should! Is what I'm worried about is the potassium making his blood pressure too low! His mom has been telling him too much bananas will lower his blood pressure too much and can cause a heart attack or etc.
I also know about the fats being the cause of diabetes! It's just I can't overly push him or he will just give up! He told me to let him go at his level- on step at a time! See he's not tring to be hard to help, it's just he used to eat a very high protein diet and it's taking him time to get his stomach used to eating more carbs and less fat because you have to learn to eat alot more and enough to keep your energy up! Plus he can't just go cold turkey off his insulin so he has to have some protein behind the insulin or the insulin will cause his blood sugar to drop too low! It's just hard when you live in a area where no one knows about the raw food diet and they don't believe in it! Everyone here depend way too much on doctors and they believe what ever a doctor says that you will die if you don't follow it! So it's not that I don't believe in the low fat 100% raw food diet, it's just he's one that makes more progress when it takes it one step at a time! Thanks again!

there is lots of protein in raw foods though. Try sprouted nuts and seeds perhaps. As to bananas ... well you don't say what you consider a lot to be or how big they are so it's hard to know. Take a look at cron-o-meter and see what levels of potassium he is taking in.
Also ... there are a lot of foods more rich in potassium than bananas ... are you factoring those in also?

Low blood pressure isn't what causes heart attacks, so I don't think you have to worry about that at all.

Thanks I'll see what other foods are high in potassium (to watch those as well) and try to make him some nut and seed recipes. I guess low blood pressure doesn't cause heart attacks, I guess I heard wrong about that! I do know though it can really hurt his kidney's (that's something diabetics have to watch)!

Before you worry yourself unduly though, it would be as well to find out how much potassium actually causes this drop in blood pressure. I know you want him to do well and get better but please try not to make yourself ill in the process :)

Too much of anything can definitely be bad (even water!!!). He should go by how he feels mostly. For example, if he gets dizzy upon standing, then his blood pressure might be getting to low. And he should make sure he drinks enough as well, because bananas can cause digestive issues if they aren't ripe enough. And definitely be careful with the kidneys! There are so many things diabetics have to be careful with! I wish my father would be careful. He was diagnosed with diabetes over three years ago, and he sits in his chair eating chocolates (which he NEVER ate before he was diagnosed). He's now on TWO different prescriptions. Its very worrying. I'm glad you're husband is willing to make a change. Even small ones will help.

Thanks Raynne413 that's what I'm talking about! I'm just trying to be careful for him! Another thing Raynne413 don't give up on your dad, because my husband saw that Simply Raw dvd about a year and a half ago! Now he finally decided to believe in it! He used to not care about what he ate or how much physical activities he did! Now he's saying I'm going to prove to those doctors you can cure diabetes on the raw food diet and he's doing physical activities inleast four times a week now by going to the gym twice a week and walking our dog on his day's off! So don't give up, there's still hope! Sometimes it just takes time for them to think about it!
I'm going to try to make it easier on my husband by making meat alternatives because if he has something to lean on so he'll stay away from the meats then I can work him more in the raw low fat diet! Maybe you can find some raw alternatives to make for your dad that your dad will like, that might help him to think about giving the raw food diet a try!

Dr. Robert Morse google and look for his youtube channel. He made video about that.
He doesn't seem to think that fruits are the problem but a necessity to heal. Anyway, research and go with what you feel right.
Berries has typically a low glycemic index but i cannot advise you concerning banana, this is why, i am referring to dr. Morse. He has brought a lot of light ball moment with the remaining of my condition.
All the best

I am going to try his herbs that he made. He has helped people that couldn't walk due to ms to walk. He is very impressive and so humble.
All the best!
May I ask a couple of questions? Is your husband in renal failure?
The blood sugar is running what exactly, with the ten bananas a day? Also, have you checked his blood pressure recently? What is it running please?
