It's been quite awhile since I posted here as I haven't been able to eat raw for a long time. Now I'm back & I need some advice to help me get back to where I want/need to be. Here's the back story:

I've been raw on & off for awhile, I know it's best, feel my healthiest/strongest/clearest/etc when close to 100% raw and that is how I would like to eat. Last August I got pregnant & became ill almost the second I conceived. Within the first week I had to be hospitalized for fluids. I was back in the hospital one week after that for more fluids and had lost 20 lbs. My whole pregnancy went like that. I was constantly dehydrated, became malnourished, lost 65 lbs, had to be hospitalized w/a feeding tube, was vomiting up to 60 times/day, couldn't even suck on ice chips or I would vomit uncontrollably. I suffered from a condition called hyperemesis gravidarum andd they aren't really sure what causes it. Throughout the pregnancy I saw many doctors, who didn't help at all, so I kind of ignored them all and just started listening to my instincts, my midwife, my acupuncturist, chiropractor, etc. For the last 40 days of the pregnancy I was able to eat/drink, but ONLY chocolate whey protein shakes ( a certain brand, too) and white bread w/earth balance. (yeah, makes me wanna puke too.) so about 7.5 months of no real food and then a month and a half of crap. My body is *wrecked* to put it mildly. I have NO muscle, and my guts are all screwed up. I just did a month & a half of probiotics, I take a multivitamin, phosphatidyl choline, cal/mag & vit C every day to help me feel better. But as far as food - I need help. I can't eat the way I want to yet. At first, if I even ate a strawberry, I would be sick for two days. Well, my baby turns 3 months old today & I am finally able to eat some raw foods again, but not as much as I would like. My questions (after all that, LOL) are: what foods can I start with, that aren't as likely to make me sick? strawberries & cherries seem to make me pretty sick, and so did zucchini noodles. (And when they make me sick, my baby who is breastfeeding gets really fussy) But I'm really sick of only being able to snack on nuts. is there a particular combination of foods that would make them less likely to cause me to be sick? As much as I desire to be all raw & healthy again, I am terrified too. My body is weak enough right now, I don't want to purposely eat foods that will make me sick, ya know? SO...suggestions welcome! Thanks! :)

Welcome back. :)

It sounds like what foods would work for you is very specific to your situation, so general advice may not help as much as constantly experimenting. Blending foods would make them easier on your system so maybe you can try variations of smoothies, soups, puddings. I found blended apples with water to be very gentle on the stomach, later you can add in some mild greens like baby spinach or romaine. Make sure you're using good quality whole food organic supplements to ensure you're getting enough nutrients.

Doing a juice feast at some point may also help you get back on track. I wouldn't recommend a juice or water fast right now because your immune system is weak. Even a feast could be tricky so waiting till your stronger is better.

What does your heart tell you to eat right now......not your brain, that remembers all your past knowledge and books you've read etc but your heart and intuition. This is most likely a crucial
time for you to listen.

May I ask, did anyone treat you with vitamin K through a pique line? I knew a girl who suffered much like you did during her pregnancy. Malnourishment from the terribly high amount of morning (all the time actually, not just mornings) sickness she suffered and K cleared it up for her, beginning from the first dose.

Maybe adding foods with high amounts of K will help you feel better now and repair and heal from what you went through. I am sorry you had such a terrible go of it.

It's possible that you developed leaky gut from the intestinal imbalance you likely had. that could explain the sensitivities to, and feeling ill from, your foods.
