Usually people who are new to raw spend more money at first, stocking up their pantry, etc, than after you've been raw for a while. Also, a lot of people find that after being raw for a while, you start to want to eat more simply. And believe me, eating simply costs a LOT less than making lots of raw recipes that sort of taste like cooked foods. For myself, I did a lot of gourmet recipes the first month, then ate much more simply for the next two months (fruits, veggies, salads), and then just recently I've been kind of interested in doing a few gourmet recipes here and there. Point being, if you want to keep it cheap, you can. If you want to keep it gourmet, then you definitely can, but it'll cost ya!

What did you buy?! Im assuming a lot of prepared gourmet raw ingredents/foods? I eat very simply, pretty much just fruit and vegetables/leafy greens, and I only spend $80-90 a week on organic produce.

Raw for many of us means walking the produce section of our local market or, going to a farmers' market or, in OH, you can probably find farmers who sell produce at stands. I have no CLUE what you circulated that much money on. Hopefully, there's a Vita-Mix blender, a food processor and a dehydrator somewhere in the mix.

I bought a Excalibur, an Easy Green Sprouter, Mason Jars, Nut Milk Bags, Spiral Slicer & Spirooli Slicer, Nuts, Agave, Coconut Oil, Maca Powder, Cocoa Powder, Goji, Sprouting seeds, produce and some packaged foods to get me started. I love finding new recipes and "cooking" so I assumed I would be the same with a raw diet. I wanted to have supplies on hand. I am sure I went overboard but thanks for the reassurance that I am not going to go broke!

cacao isn't raw either but many still use it.

I am confused why does it say "Raw Organic Cacoa" on the package and why do so many of the raw recipes use it?

Part of the problem is that "Raw" has no legal definition in many countries and because the people who make the product don't actually use cooking/heating/drying techniques on the product they feel they can call it raw.

All Cacao is stacked, green, prior to processing. It reaches high temperatures because the outer coating starts to rot. The inner part is what is used but those temperatures are enough to make raw purists believe that it's not raw. I don't use it but that's mostly because of cost. I might use it on occasion if I felt the need to treat myself but I prefer to simply not use it.

Agave isn't raw either I don't think. I will check that though. I have a useful link but it's on my home computer. I'll post it later.

Thanks, would love to have that link! I do not think Agave is raw, I knew that but I use it in recipes. Honestly, I do not think I will ever be 100% Raw but the closer I can get the better!

Absolutely :) I use raw dates and raw honey as sweeteners and whilst I call myself 100% raw how can I honestly know I am when so much is incorrectly labelled or misunderstood.

Just being as good as I can be is all I can hope to achieve - I like to think that most days this is 100% :)

hi Drakes. Welcome! A better way to get a big greeting might be to start your own thread in the Who Are You section (or it's called something like that anyway). Even so, a warm welcome to you. :-)
