Please direct me to a thread or we can just do this one...
Do some people loose weight right away and some its takes more time on raw?
Hi,
Well, here's what I experienced:
The first month I lost a lot of weight, (keep in mind that I was and still am overweight) I lost 16.50 pounds. The second month I lost 6.61 pounds, the third month I lost 8.81 pounds. I'm now half way my 4th month and in total I have already lost 37.5 pounds...
Now with some people it takes a while before they start losing weight, with others it comes right away and then it slows down, you see, so don't worry too much about the weight, health comes first! :)
I also noticed that sometimes my weight plataud for a couple of weeks, and then slowly I lost some more again...
Take care, Joke

Yeah, I started with raw 4 months ago, did have an occasional cooked meal, but if I look back, I did very good if I can say so myself :)

Hi konacoral,
Yes, it varies for everyone. I know I started losing right away, but Nora ate 100% raw for 5 months before she lost her first pound.

And remember, even if you aren't losing weight, other health benefits are happening to your body :)

Sounds like you're doing great! I lost 8 lbs. the first month and have now lost 105 lbs. on 85% raw. I notice my weight plateaus when I eat more dates and nuts/nut butter.

Hiya Konacoral,
It really depends upon several factors. How overweight the person was to begin with. What the person was eating prior to becoming raw. Was the raw lifestyle started with some sort of fast (i.e. juice or water). I was about 20lbs over my ideal weight in May. I did a 14 day juice fast and lost 10lbs. Then I went back to eating just raw whole foods and gained back 7lbs. I stayed that way for 3 months and did a 30 day juice fast. I lost 16 pounds and came to what had been my ideal weight. Now I am happy but I think my body may shed some more weight anyways. Everyone loses weight that I have seen on a raw diet, but it depends upon where a person is starting.
Jay........You go Girl!! 37lbs!?!? Are you kidding? All I can say is WOW!! Keep it up you inspirational Belgian you!
Peace,
Todd

I'm on day 23 of 100% raw and have lost about 9 lbs. I wish it was more but I'm trying to be patient with the entire process because I'm very serious about making this my long-term lifestyle. So what's 23 days in the scheme of things? Very little. I'm sick and tired of the extra weight and know that it makes my fibromyalgia worse...but it's not the whole picture either. I once lost 45 lbs. on Weight Watchers and was at a "medically correct" weight but still felt horrible. My list of symptoms is/has been long...breathing problems, vertigo, skin rashes, intense neck pain, mental "fog", fatigue, etc. And they didn't magically disappear when I lost weight by eating smaller portions of the same old cooked SAD food that got me sick in the first place. I've got about 45-50 lbs. to lose. I'm going to evaluate the weight loss on the 6 mos. and 12 mos. marks. I know that if I cut way back on raisins, nuts, dates and avocados the weight loss would be going faster...but then maybe I wouldn't be able to stick with 100% raw the way I've been. (And I've been so, so determined, even at family dinners, restaurants, car trips, etc.) I need to drink a lot more water and get in some aerobic exercise and stretching/yoga. It'll all fall away and fall into place in time if I'm faithful to the process...At least that's my prayer and my mantra! I'm a native NYer and miss the city since moving here...I often think of the two big marble lions outside the 42nd St. Library. Do you know their names? Patience and Fortitude. That's what we Raw Foodies need I think! Our reward will be real, deep down WELLNESS and vitality and what could be better than that? :)

Hey Melissa,
Congrats on the 9lbs! I am a bit of a numbers person. So when you mentioned 9lbs in 23 days something came to me. That is about .4 pounds per day. At that rate in about 6 months (180 days), you would have lost 73lbs. At that rate you will probably reach your 45lb goal in about 4 months. I would tend to think that your current raw diet, which I applaud you for being so faithful with, combined with some regular exercise (like maybe an hour of walking out in the air each day) plus maybe a once per week water fast, you would exceed your goal in 4 months. Now that is not a long time at all! I believe you can do it!
Peace.

Melissa- you are doing wonderful things for your body! I too have some to shed. I was on diet pills practically ever since I turned 18. I stayed small, but my body was a wreck! Once I ditched the pills and started to pursue this RAW lifestyle- according to my scale, I have gained 23 pounds, how depressing is that? My clothes still fits, a little tighter of course, but my body is shaping differently- very nicely actually. Besides, my body is detoxing from all the pills and the crap I've been putting it through. I know I am healthier today than 40 days ago, even 23 pounds heavier. ( I need to lay off the nuts and that almond butter- yum. ) But I'm adjusting to this and it will forever be part of my life... no matter how many times I may fall, eventually the horse will break! Stay strong!
Allison & Jay- WOW! You go girls! :D

Thanks, raw buddies! Todd, I never thought about the numbers that way...SO HELPFUL!!! That makes it seem totally destined and accessible, rather than some far-away dream. I will get there!
Feelin'Good, I'm impressed that you're making this big step away from pills and towards health...I believe your size will stabilize at the right point. Your body's wisdom will lead you there. Isn't it great to trust in your body if you give it the right fuel it needs? What a relief.
Have a great day everyone!

All of you are such a motivation. I love this!!
Todd, you seem to have such a strong will power. I would love to one day say that I did a 30 day juice fast. That is my goal.
I am currently doing a 3 day water fast but I do plan to do a 14 day juice fast soon.
Congratulations, Allison on your tremendous weight loss success.
I lost 17 lbs in my first month and was ecstatic. Afterwards, the weight started coming off at approx. 4lbs per month. But I am satisfied. I have 20lbs before I think I am at my ideal weight.
Jay,Melissa, FeelingGood...what an inspiration!
