Hello everyone! New here and to a more raw 'natural' foods way of eating.
I have started to eat more raw foods the last couple days and have been VERY embarrasingly gassy. I have read the raw food detox diet book and made her hearty veggie soup on Tuesday and had that for lunch that day, yesterday and today (its has onion, carrot, celery, broccoli, zucchini, squash and broth) I eat it w/ Ezekiel bread and honey...basically my diet the last few days is: fruit on waking and til noon (usually a 'fruit salad' for breakfast with apples, strawberries, blueberries and grapes, and a banana and some cherries later on if I'm hungry)....lunch is that veggie soup w/ Ezekiel bread and honey, snack is about 3 hours after lunch and is either a bunch of fruit (nectarines, cherries, apple etc) or plain raw veggies (cucumber, baby carrots)...dinner is usually a big salad w/ protein in it (chicken or fish) or maybe what the family is eating, or stir fry over brown rice. Bedtime snack is fruit or fruit mixed w/ greek yogurt.
I HATE this gassiness though! I want to keep eating this way but want this side affect to go away...

Also, I noticed since starting to eat this way I am less 'regular' if you know what I mean and its slightly uncomfortable. I wanst eating super unhealthy before, here's what I did before....brekky: fish and rice.....snack: blueberries, kashi go lean cereal and milk....lunch: veggie wrap and cottage cheese...snack: big fruit and veggie plate....dinner: usually whateve rthe family is having-sometimes not super healthy.....bedtime snack: strawberries and blueberries mixed w/ Greek yogurt and kashi go lean cereal.

I want to eat a more raw diet while adding in chicken and fish as well...so.....WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THE GAS?? and the regularity....?

thank you!
Anna

First off my advice is get rid of all the animal products from your diet. Get a hold of a copy of The China Study to see why animal products are not healthy for humans.

Next look into food combining, as that can be a big factor in having gas. Some foods should not be eaten together or else they do not fully digest and can cause bloating and gas.

well I DID read the raw food detox diet book (as I said above) and thats where I learned about food combining...BUT I was miscombining ALL the time prior to 3 days ago and NEVER had gas like this! I dont miscombine now til dinner, the rest of my day is 'safe'

Glad someone started this thread because i was about to. I'm having this same problem and i'm not eating fancy recipes i've been eating simply mostly lots of fruits and 1 big salad, today was different, but in general the gas factor has been horrible since going raw and i'm trying to figure out why? It's embarrassing and not gonna lie it reeks and it's silent but deadly! HORRIBLE!!! I can't keep living like this!

I have not once had gas or any problems since I started properly properly food combining as well as eating mainly mono meals(one type of thing per meal), these both help with digestion of food.

Ditch the animal products. Go 100% raw for 30 days - join the 30 day challenge - and you should see a big difference.

I also think that Steven has it right; probably mono meals is the way to go. It's more natural. I eat mostly mono. I have very little gas and it's not foul smelling at all.

ps this is a vegan forum and we don't discuss eating animal products. We only discuss not eating them and even then we don't do that in detail!

HOW do you do mono meals and be sure you are getting all your nutrients for the day?? I am concerned about making sure I am getting enough protein andn healthy carbs. I am a runner so I want to be sure I am eating the right foods to repair after a long run or a particularly HARD run. I used to do protein right after my runs (fish and brown rice) and that was working well)...I'm not ready yet to give up meat and dont know if I ever will. My main goal for NOW is just to start making healthier choices, eat more WHOLE foods (not processed) and dabble a bit in food combining (do 'safe' meals til dinner)....

You don't need a set quota of specific nutrients everyday. As long as you get the right amount in a week or two week period you will be fine. Most people on SAD diets don't get certain nutrients every six months even so if you miss a day of vitamin C you aren't going to damage your health.

I was relieved to see this post!! After even my first day PARTIALLY raw I had gas that could melt fabric, and the smell was unbelievable - burning. I am being mindful of food combining principles, and do realize the body has a lot of old stuff to clear out - esp. after the SAD diet I was on and basically not having a normal bm for at least 2 weeks. But. Seriously.

Please tell me this will stop!!!

Oh yeah. It will stop when it wants to. I think this is pretty common for most people and sometimes a bit embarassing too.;)

CathyA - yes, the smelly gas is definitely embarrassing! Mine seems to be getting better as I pay attention to food combining, though am definitely not perfect at it by any means!! Problem now is that sometimes the gas is odorless, sometimes it's not, so I can never tell if I need to run to the other room and spare my family the noxious fumes!! lol

Happy day everyone!!
