i feel great except i have a unsettled feeling of hunger after eating. i could have a large salad of greens veggies. berries and nuts and not too long after my stomach is growling. i try a little nut butter and it helps but not for long. is it that my body is not accustomed or i need more filling food. i am trying to lose weight. thanks

Hey there,

I know what you mean. My metabolism is through the roof. But I believe it is about making the adjustment so your body starts to become more accustomed to the new eating habits. Atleast that's been my experience. One thingg that seems to really curb my appetite is being out in the sun and exercising. Really relaxes me as opposed to when I'm inside for long periods of time I think about eating more often, even if I'm not hungry. Hope this helps a little.

my feeling is that you should eat until you are satiated. I am also doing this for weight loss, and since going raw at the beginning of April, I've dropped about 48lbs, and there's no sign of it slowing. At first I was super careful about not eating fatty things, but lately I just sort of eat what I am craving (as long as it's raw) and it's all good.

Sounds like you body is craving carbs. Leafy greens, nuts, and berries arent the best sources though. Sweet fruits like bananas, mangos, dates, papaya, etc are calroie and carb dense, try making a meal out of one or more of them and see if youre still hungry. :) After a meal of say 10 bananas Im good for a couple hours before getting hungry again.

Yes, you can still lose weight eating lots of carb dense fruits! I reccomend watching this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOUqDgazZUc&feature=related) and this
(http://www.youtube.com/user/Freelea#p/u/3/hat0A2LDioM)video for more information.

yes, there's a huge difference between good carbs and bad carbs. You can always try eating just a little more of the things you're unsure about and see how it affects you.

If your body can handle it, maybe you need more fruits in your diet. We need the good sugar from the fruits. I certainly do. Make sure to keep active when you eat fruit.

How long have you been doing raw food? Sometime, at first we have emotional craving, we seems hungry but we aren't. We are so used to eat food to suppress our emotions then when we stop, our mind will give us craving.

Eat plenty of fresh fruits, produce and especially fresh leafy greens/herbs (balance your body, heal cravings and heal).

I juice now, i find that i eat far less.

Fruits are essential for your health and fitness. Now it depends on you, you are using it in shape of juices or just eat them. it provides your your body the relevant proteins and minerals which is very helpful for your body.

I'm having the same problem as well - I've only been doing raw for 5 days so still getting to grips with what my body needs. I find that after a breakfast of a green smoothie (spinach & mango) or a fruit salad (1 banana, handful strawberries & blueberries with some almonds) that I am starving an hour later and feel exhausted!. I am trying to drink more and I do think it has something to do with the amount of foods and snacking I was doing before.

After reading some comments on here (I eat 10 bananas in the morning!) maybe I don't eat enough - can't imagine eating 10 bananas in one go and I love them!

I have ordered some buckwheat as I tend to exercise in the morning and feel I need a more hearty breakfast - what do you think?

What do you eat in between meals - I like to have 3 meals a day and then snacks?

i know it is real hunger and not a craving for food. my stomach was churning till it hurt. i think i am not used to eating foods that digest quickly or maybe my body was used to producing more acid to digest heavier foods and has not yet used to raw yet. iam going to try more fruit

It can take some time to stretch ones stomach out to the normal size in which you can fit say 10 bananas. But Ive found that blending them up into a smoothie at first is a lot easier to get them in. 10 bananas is roughly only 1,000 calories depending in their size, and thats only 1/3 of my calorie needs for the day. (I highly reccomend using Cronometer for tracking ones food and seeing if they are eating enough calories for their height, age, gender, etc as its very easy to undereat on raw)

just eat more frequently.

Feeling hunger short term isn't a crime against humanity either. We culturally are conditioned to be stuffed all the time. Not a good thing.

Problems can arise when one eats a high carb and high fat diet especially in diabetic people. But the main culprit is the fat which is slower digesting than the carbs so problems can occur because the sugars from the carbs cannot be absorbed as fast as normal. Many people have cured theirselves of diabetes and gotten off of medication by following a raw or cooked low fat high carb vegan diet(which is optimal for human health). Just thought Id mention that since you said you were pre-diabetic.

my blood sugars are about 100-130 after eating. i do believe i am insulin resistant and 150 overweight and that is a risk factor. i was told that eating more fat would slow down the metabolism of carbs and less be stored as fat and eating fat has an ability to keep one full. i am pretty sure that slowing dow the digestion of sugar is a good thing. you are able to use it as fuel instead of getting sugar overload. raw cures diabetes for a number of other reasons one being more fiber another nutrients as well as omitting crap in the typical diet. protien an fat are alway included with carbs in a diabetic meal.. raw diet allows one to shed extra pound which also can cure type 2 dm.
i am just having a good ol time being able to eat more. i did watch that clip about eating more fruit, it is helping

if you haven't already, you might want to check out some books by John McDougall, MD. He advocates for a low-fat vegan diet, and has some really good explanations as to why. He talks a lot about diabetes and has an extremely good record with getting people off of diabetic medication altogether. That said, I personally think that eating raw is more the way to go, but it can never hurt to become more educated and see what different people say. :-)

You need more protein. I know many people who follow the raw food diet say you only need 7% of calories from protein, but I have always been told to go by the figure of 0.8 g protein/kg lean body mass for those who do not work out or lift weights frequently and for everyone who does work out its 0.8 g protein/lb lean body mass. So the 7% figure is based off the 2000 cal diet, and I need way less than that (I get about 1200 a day) yet I do best on about 20 - 30% protein. I aim for 80 g protein/day. You can get it from sprouts and legumes, but you can also supplement with a raw vegan protein powder. I do this and am not hungry.

Thanks Myredpanda. I got some raw seeds and I will look into the raw protein powder. Can you recommend one? I was out in the heat today and drank more fluids and I definetly am not that hungry. I am still learning what to eat. How do you prepare lentils and legumes. I really need to find time to get some more information. Great advice and something I am really going to do. I want to stick with this and get healthy.

I use raw meal. I really like it. It contains raw sprouted grains that are dehydrated and like 36 g protein a serving. You could sprout them yourself, but it would take forever. Also, it tastes great with homemade raw almond milk and a banana. If you get bored with this try hemp protein. Nutvia makes a great hemp protein powder. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=raw+meal&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=6919731295931642384&sa=X&ei=eaknTt-uG4ODtgeQ2-C7Cg&ved=0CEYQ8wIwAA
