I read two things on the net one said to stick carrots in water but when i did that they went translucent. Anotherway said to stick a damp teatowel over them in the crisper. Im currently trying that. Ive also tried sticking them in the crisper by themselves and keeping them in a plastick container. Nothing seems to keep them crisp very long :( I want them to stay crisp at least one week and if possible 2 weeks so i can get a new packet evey time i go shopping.

I keep mine in the bottom of the fridge in a large tub which has a loose grill-type thing in the bottom. A little water - just what you wash the produce in will do - remains under the grill and everything stays crisp for as long as possible. Carrots are things I try to buy regularly (the ones in the garden aren't big enough to pick yet) because they don't store brilliantly if they come prewashed.
Get them with a bit of earth still on them and they are better.

I buy organic carrots in a big bag from Costco, and they stay fresh and last me almost three weeks! I just keep them in my vegetable crisper. For my celery, I keep it in the crisper as well, and I put it in a green bag (I love those things!).

They are these bags that help keep your produce fresh longer by absorbing and removing the gasses that fruits and veggies give off that causes a faster ripening.
I wrap celery in aluminium foil and ut keep very well for weks longest I every noted was from 17th to 13th of the next mth mi loss of crispness ...... was hidden in the htm shelf

I keep my celery cut up in water in the fridge. Never had a problem with it going bad or not being crisp.

Kindred, did you use filtered water for your carrot storage? I have used the water bath in a covered glass casserole dish and gone a long time, carrots remaining crisp.
Chlorine is an oxidizer and may lend to spoilage or a shortened life of foods that are washed or soaked in it.
If you used tap water, try again with filtered or purified water-where the chlorine has been removed. If you have no filter you can also let it sit out for a day in an open vessel so some of the chlorine gasses off. Maybe that will help.

Thanks ... I've never seen them in shops here and the ones on UK amazon are sooo expensive! Golly.

Are nutrients leached into the water when you store stuff like that? If not I might give that a try again. Maybe I left mine in the water too long???

Do you need to store them in the fridge when they are covered in water? Can i keep them in water in a drawer under my desk at work :-)

I keep them in the fridge. How long are you keeping them under your desk? If just for while you are at work, start out with ice cubes in the container to keep cold or get a cooler.
