Hi All,
I'm on my 5th day of 100% raw, and before this I did about 2 weeks of 80% raw. I plan to stay raw or mostly raw, but I'm going to New York for a long weekend in a couple weeks, and I want to know how bad it would be to eat cooked food including chicken, fish, cheese and other dairy...
Would it be terrible to do that and then go back to raw when I get home or would it be ok? Do you think I will feel sick eating SAD after almost a month raw? It would just be a pain to stay raw when I'll be somewhere that has such delicious food!
Thanks!

your on holiday eat what makes you happy. If you want to keep it raw, perhaps buy some produce from NYC and eat it like that/bring a blender
im sure there are RAW restaurants too in NYC.

This site is about supporting people in being and staying raw, not suggesting you go out and indulge in splurging on cooked.
Will you become sick? Who knows? If eating that way makes your heart sing, I say, knock yourself out yet, I would encourage you to delve deeper and find out if it's the food you want to indulge in or is there another reason?
I'm pretty sure where you live you've got "...such delicious food..." so, my question for you is, what's the question behind the question because you can't tell me where you live there's none of the foods you mentioned available. So, what is it you're really wondering? Maybe, "can" you stay raw and still be sociable? Your truth lies in this statement "...It would just be a pain to stay raw..."
If/when you honestly delve into the truth, I'm thinking you may not wish to indulge as you're considering... then again... your life, your health. If your monkey mind is telling you "If you die tomorrow, will you wish you'd... ???" Remember, the monkey in your head is not your friend.
In my consciousness it's called "crimes against wisdom" and, I've committed quite a few of those. Is that what you want to do?
If you want truly delicious food, why not go to some of the supreme raw restaurants in NYC? There are plenty of them!

just a forwarning,to u . I went vegan for two months after having been raw for over a year , worst decision of my life . I literally couldnt hold down anything for two weeks , not even water . I tried very hard to eat but ended up losing about ten pounds in those two weeks , b/c my body was literally rejecting all cooked foods . I went on a raw liquid diet for about three days and slowly started eating raw regular food . I i know that if I ever do that again , things will end very badly for me . please make the right decision for u and I hope it doesnt end up the way it did with me . good luck .

Honestly you won't get support here to 'take a break' from raw :)
I would say do what's best for you (raw... not raw), regardless of what anyone else suggests. Your life, your decisions. Enjoy!

I know I'm not the moderator but...please...this is supposed to be a vegan board.

I KNOW we are not suppose to support non-raw eating, but I want to share my experience with you.
I have been on a high raw diet for 7 months now. I don't always make it 100% all the time but I do the best I can, however on occasion I have the desire/need, whatever you want to call it, to "take a break from raw" I usually only make it about half a day before I am reminded, by my body, why I love eating raw so much. I am usually so ready to start the next day eating raw by the end of my "off" day that I can't wait.
I say this to say, you never know what will happen. A lot of people on this forum have had "off" days and learned to love raw eating even more for it. Who knows this might happen to you.
But! Please let me warn you....eating something like a NY slice of cheese pizza after being raw for a length of time will MESS YOU UP!!! Please trust me on that one!!! I know from experience. My body violently rejected the cheese pizza and it was brutal, I was on the couch for an entire day and still not feeling myself the following day. On th bright side, I have had ZERO desire for pizza since.

NYC is an amazing place.. eating raw there should be no problem at all.. just make it your goal to track down as many raw restaurants as you can while there. If you do that, you will come home feeling a lot better than if you stuff your body full of meat and cheese and cooked foods. I travel a lot, and in 4 months, I have not found one single reason to cheat.. raw food is everywhere if you look for it! :-)

I hope to find a vegan forum that doesn't discuss products from the meat and dairy industries. I will be leaving this one now.

I haven't read any post so my deep apologies if i duplicate.
You are the one that know what is best for you and your limit.
If you are the type of person that get back on your feet no problem, go ahead and experiment. Never eat out of guilt and you are supposed to experience peace.
If you are a compulsive eater, you will torture yourself if you do this because, it will take a while to reset the craving to cook food.
If you went on raw food for health reason, then my say to you is that have a plan and see this travelling experience as an exciting opportunity to reinforce your basic with raw food. There are raw food restaurant in New York. Locate a whole food. Any exception that you do, it slows down your healing path.
I recalled doing raw food religiously for 60 days, then silly me i try to eat lima bean (raw) and i got so sick that raw food wasn't appealing to me. I started to do cook food again (organic vegetarian). Well, it took me two years to be able to do raw food again. My lesson for me is that it is far easier to stick to raw food. Bring a blender or a juicer and make your food in the hotel.
So in other word, you are the one that knows yourselves and your limit.
Whatever decision you make, don't do this out of guilt or by telling yourself stories, but from a responsible place. Otherwise, it will feed the addiction.
It is far much easier for me to resist temptation then to make exception.
Wishing you all the best

As mentioned already... this is a raw vegan forum. We are happy to assist you to find ways to stay raw on your vacation but we cannot suggest that you eat cooked food. It's not what the forum is about at all.
in light,
Admin
ps and just a note... there are raw foodists in NYC so it's not a pain to stay raw unless you choose to experience in that way.
