Hey Guys,

So I decided to toughen up and do the Master Cleanse. Today is my 3rd day. Yesterday I noticed I had a rapid heartbeat when I would lay down. This happened when I took a nap and when I went to bed. It lasted for a while on and off and then gradually went away. I've googled this problem and the only answer I managed to find was the one below but I want to know if there are other reasons for this?? Have any of you guys experienced this?

"Side Effects of Master Cleanser: Electrolyte imbalances may also cause muscle spasms, physical weakness, convulsions, mental confusion and irregular heartbeat."

Yes, or perhaps you're not handling the maple syrup sugars well. Too much sugar can make the heartbeat race.

Cut back on the amount of maple syrup and also try chewing cinnamon. If no change then I'd seriously consider rethinking your approach to cleansing with this particular method. It doesn't suit everyone and there are plenty of other options for cleansing (e.g. green juices etc).

I was told that low blood sugar causes increased heart rate.

Either can, as far as I'm aware, and TBH, if one has high blood sugar, there's a good chance it'll likely crash to low blood levels after a period of time.

When I first started with raw foods, I was doing rediculous things like eating entire honeydew melons (and over-ripe ones, at that). The sheer onslaught of fructose led me to have racing heart beat and a very unpleasant, spacey feeling, followed by nauseating crashes to low blood sugar. I'm not diabetic, BTW.

Everyone is different, but, based upon my above experience, my first reply is a reasonable possibility.
