View Full Version : Question about allergies...

So, this is probably going to seem like an odd question... have any of you noticed an increase in things you seem to have allergic reactions to since going raw? Since I have gone raw, I have found three foods that I now have allergic reactions to, and also am having a bad allergic reaction to an adhesive spray that was used on my feet when I was in surgery last week. So it just got me to thinking, could the raw diet perhaps make your immune system a lot stronger, so it's ready to attack with a vengeance anything that could be even a potential threat, whereas when not raw, maybe the immune system is a bit weaker and doesn't have the capacity to deal with every little thing? Not sure if that makes any sense (and my theory is certainly not based on any research, just a random thought), but basically I am wondering if any of you have noticed more allergic reactions since going raw than you had before being raw?

Your theory sounds about right to me. I know that with my food intolerances, they say that the longer you stay away from them the more of a reaction from small amounts you get, and that's definitely true for me. I think intolerances an allergies would behave alike... Now that I have been gluten free for a year, just walking through a bread isle through that strong flour smell makes me feel out of it.

Oh yeah. The bread and cracker isle. Ewww makes me gaggy. When I gave up sugar I got so sensitive to the smell that I could not even go down the baking isle.

Not having problems with food allergies but rather seasonal allergies. I heard they should stop when going raw but they got so bad when I went to Tennessee that I had to take some allergy meds I try to avoid pills but I had to stop the sneezing. Has anyone else's allergies gotten better in time?

mine are a little better. I am allergic to cats for one thing and little to pollens.
Much, much better but not gone totally.
Speltrong, which '3 foods' are you sensitive to..?

I never had allergies in my life, i started to be allergic to rag weed pollen when going 100% raw vegan in 2007 (i was doing dairy before). I did research and it could be cause to couple things. Some food cans lead to more sensitivity to pollen for rag weeds, it is best cut down in banana during that time and nuts.
The other thing could be anxiety. Allergy will be one symptom. It was a tuff year for me. I am hoping this year, i will beat this allergy to rag weed which i never had before.
I am doing raw food in a different level now. More live food and fresh, less gourmet and less nuts.
I had so much benefit from going raw food that this allergy didn't stop me to continue with this life style. It is an adjustment but i am getting more in tune with my body now.
All the best!

Arky, i am allergic to mango, parsnip, and pistachios. And i am also allergic to whatever spray adhesive surgeons use to hold steri-strips in place... not just a little allergic, but ridiculously painfully, oh my god make the pain stop kind of allergic. Interestingly, i did not have any of these allergies when i was not raw. :-/
