Hi Everyonne:

I'm new can anyone tell me things you can eat besides your obvious fruits and vegs.. Like can I have organic peanut butter?

What can I drink? Can I have coffee if it is a raw coffee bean LOL jk (I think I can't have coffee right?).

No dairy? No cheese?

You "can" have whatever you want. Depends on your outcome.

Hello SusanElaine,

Are you following Alissa's way of doing raw? You can find out more about that from her 1st book which you can either order by clicking the link under the lettuce (top left) or I believe you can get it in libraries in the States. It is a very good guide for beginners.

Are you going 100% raw right away - for me that is the best way; others transition slowly. If you are plunging right in then the above things you mention are not part of the plan although people do make raw peanut butter if they have the right equipment. There is probably a recipe or two on the site and if you click the search button up by the banana at the top middle you should be able to find it.

ba ha ha ha! I think it depends on you how you transition into the diet, but I know for me I can not eat too much fat - nuts and avocados are great, but in my opinion should not comprise the bulk of your diet. Vegetables first, then fruits, then nuts and seeds last (20% or less of your intake).

Depending on whether you want to go raw vegan or not - dairy and cheese is out for that but if you can find a local dairy and don't want to go raw vegan you could get raw dairy there, but again it really doesn't fit with Alissa's raw vegan philosophy.

I know most people say you can't have coffee but I think coffee is fine in small doses, as is tea. I don't really see coffee and tea as foods, nor do I see caffeine as a drug, anymore than I see chlorophyll as a drug. Its a naturally occurring substance found in a plant. Yes, the beans have to be roasted, but you are not eating the beans, you are drinking the water passed over the beans. I don't know this may be a touchy subject but there is no way I will ever give up tea, lol! I will just have to be 99% raw at that point. :wuv

You can make raw peanut butter, but almond butter IMHO is much better.

I don't drink coffee, but I think you would need to roast the raw beans to make coffee, not to mention the hot water to brew...

Cheese and dairy is usually always pasteurized, not to mention drinking cow secretions is generally considered unhealthy.
